Kennard has become a pivotal piece in the Lakers’ starting unit due to the absences of both Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves. Kennard followed up his nine-assist performance with another great display of passing on Thursday. The veteran guard also tallied a season high in steals, accounting for over a quarter of the Lakers’ total. He has fit in nicely as a Laker since being traded from the Hawks ahead of the February trade deadline. He’ll likely return to a reserve role once the team’s key perimeter players return from injury. However, Kennard remains productive as a starter.

Ayton bounced back from a lackluster three-point performance on Tuesday to reach the 20-point mark on Thursday for the first time since March 12 against the Bulls. He hardly missed shots and did the majority of his damage in the paint. The former first-overall pick didn’t contribute in many other statistical categories, but his scoring production against the Warriors was important, as the Lakers gear up for the playoffs.

The two California teams squared off on Thursday, and it was James who carried the Lakers to a comfortable win. The four-time Finals MVP picked his spots and converted efficiently as a scorer to lead the Lakers in total points. And when he wasn’t scoring, the veteran forward displayed the type of vision that’s made him such a unique player throughout his career. James worked the defensive glass fairly well, nearly well enough to tally another triple-double. He has taken control of the Lakers’ offense lately with the injuries to Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves, and that should remain the case as long as they’re out of the lineup.

21 minutes was all Joe needed to leave his mark on Wednesday’s game. Off the bench, he buried four three-pointers and finished as Oklahoma City’s second-leading scorer on the evening. Not much was required from SGA on Wednesday for the Thunder to collect the win. Yet, he logged another 20-point game and really controlled the contest as a facilitator, tallying double-digit assists en route to a double-double. Chet had it all clicking on Wednesday, on both ends of the floor. Offensively, he only missed three shots on the night while using the three-point line to help tally 30 points; his handful of assists shouldn’t be ignored, either. With LeBron James and Jaxson Hayes joining Luka Dončić, Austin Reaves and Marcus Smart on the sidelines for Tuesday’s game, Vanderbilt appeared well-positioned to play increased minutes. However, he lasted only one four-minute stint, with Lakers head coach JJ Redick benching the forward for the rest of the night. After the 123-87 defeat, Redick said it was a “confluence of things” that prompted him to pull Vanderbilt during the second quarter and not go back to him. Given the absences from the Lakers’ lineup, fantasy managers in active leagues likely hoped for more scoring from Kennard. He attempted just seven shots, which was more about Oklahoma City’s defense than any hesitation on Kennard’s part. He was essentially the focus of their defensive efforts, limiting the guard’s scoring opportunities. However, Kennard recorded a game-high nine assists while shooting over 50 percent from the field.
