For the first time this season, Embiid will play in a game on one day’s rest, a notable occurrence given his persistent knee issues. While he did play 32 minutes in Friday’s win over the Pacers, don’t be surprised if the 76ers look to keep Embiid away from that number. Regardless of how much he plays, fantasy managers must ensure that Embiid is in their active lineups.

No surprise here, as Maxey was listed as doubtful on Sunday evening. Maxey sat out Friday’s matchup with the Pacers, and Quentin Grimes replaced him in the starting five, posting a 10/9/4/1/1 line with a pair of triples. Grimes is likely to remain in the starting lineup for a second straight game.

Coming off his best performance of the season, Embiid faces a vital benchmark on Sunday. If he’s able to play, this would be the first time this season that the former MVP has played a game on one day’s rest. That would represent a significant step forward in Embiid’s rehab process. If he’s unable to play, Andre Drummond would slide into the starting lineup with Adem Bona serving as the backup.

George shared the team lead in assists with VJ Edgecombe, a byproduct of the 76ers’ lack of starting point guard Tyrese Maxey (illness). While the veteran wing has started slowly after undergoing offseason knee surgery, he enjoyed his best game of the season on Friday. With Joel Embiid able to say the same thing, the 76ers (and fantasy managers) are likely encouraged by what they saw, even with the Pacers being one of the worst teams in the NBA. George will look to end Week 8 on a high note when Philadelphia visits Atlanta on Sunday.

The 76ers handled Tyrese Maxey’s absence with a committee approach, with multiple players taking on playmaking responsibilities throughout Friday’s victory. Edgecombe was among them, and he’s been responsible for at least five assists in three of his last five appearances. The rookie produced solid percentages, with the blocked shot category being the only one left empty. Rostered in 59 percent of Yahoo! leagues, Edgecombe has been a top-100 player in eight-cat formats over the past two weeks.

With Tyrese Maxey (illness) unavailable, Grimes made his fifth start of the season on Friday. The rebounds and assists were encouraging, as was his recording a steal and a blocked shot. However, given Grimes’ shooting ability, fantasy managers likely hoped to get a bit more from him in the points category. If Maxey can’t play on Sunday in Atlanta, look for Grimes to remain in the starting lineup.

For his career, Embiid is averaging 30.9 points per game against the Pacers, so maybe we should have seen Friday’s performance coming. The former MVP was sensational on Friday, shooting over 50 percent from the field and making a more concerted effort to attack the Pacers’ defenders. That resulted in Embiid attempting 18 free throws, a sign that he may be on the right track recovery-wise. The points and minutes were season-highs for the 7-footer, who played 32 minutes. Philadelphia ends Week 8 with a game against the Hawks on Sunday.

Reaves has been diagnosed with a mild left calf strain and will be re-evaluated in one week. His absence significantly affects fantasy basketball and the Lakers’ rotation, creating an opening in the team’s starting lineup. Marcus Smart and Gabe Vincent are candidates to fill the void, with the former being the more likely choice due to what he brings to the table defensively. Reaves’ absence also means increased usage for Luka Dončić and LeBron James.

Embiid is active and set to make his second straight appearance for the Sixers. Philadelphia has been off since December 7, when it lost 112-108 to the Lakers in a game in which Embiid logged 30 minutes for just the second time this season. While the 76ers welcome back Embiid, they’ll be without Tyrese Maxey, as he is out with an illness. Grimes moves into the starting lineup, with the move also meaning that Edgecombe will have the ball in his hands more as a primary playmaker. Both players now boast higher fantasy ceilings.

Maxey’s status was downgraded from probable to questionable on Friday morning, so things may have been trending in this direction. He’s been one of the best players in fantasy basketball this season, and the 76ers won’t have an easy time filling the void. With Edgecombe playing 24 minutes in each of his three prior appearances, 76ers head coach Nick Nurse said before Sunday’s game that the rookie’s minutes limit would increase “soon.” Sunday must have qualified as “soon,” since Edgecombe played 38 minutes against the Lakers. Embiid had a rough night shooting the basketball. In addition to missing all six of his three-point attempts, the 7-footer shot 4-of-15 from inside the arc. Many of his attempts came in the mid-range, and explosiveness seems to still be an issue in the paint. However, fantasy managers should be encouraged by Embiid playing 30 minutes, the second time he’s hit that number this season. The 76ers are off until Friday; hopefully, that time off will help Embiid as he works to get back to full strength.

On a night when Joel Embiid and Paul George (12/6/3/1) combined to score 28 points on 7-of-29 shooting, Maxey did his best to keep the 76ers afloat. Despite a rough start to the week, rumors of LeBron’s demise may have been greatly exaggerated. Back in the lineup after sitting out Friday’s loss to the Celtics, the 40-year-old picked up the slack for the Lakers in crunch time. James shot 5-of-6 from the field in the fourth quarter, including two three-pointers in crunch time that helped the Lakers end their road trip on a high note. With the NBA Cup knockout stages resulting in lighter schedules for the entire league, LeBron and the Lakers will receive some welcome rest, even if they advance to the semifinals with a win over the Spurs on Wednesday.

Maxey had one of his least productive offensive performances of the season on Friday. He scored fewer the 20 points for the first time, due to inefficient shooting and relatively low volume, but also wasn’t as productive as a passer against the Bucks. The versatile combo guard made up for his lack of offensive output on the defensive end, however. Philadelphia ultimately didn’t need Maxey to be in top form, as the team cruised to a 15-point road win on the second night of a back-to-back. Grimes had the hot hand on Friday and used it to finish as the Sixers’ leading scorer for the game. He was especially dialed in from deep, accounting for more than a third of Philadelphia’s 17 made three-pointers on the evening, while also making contributions on the glass and finishing as one of the Sixers’ most productive passers. Arguably, his only blemish was the five turnovers he committed, which were nearly half of Philly’s total. Still, Grimes was productive off the bench and continues to find ways to contribute.

After being held to 10 points in Monday’s loss to the Suns, the streak came to an end in Toronto. And it wasn’t for a lack of trying, as only Austin Reaves attempted more shots among the Lakers who saw action.
