Maxey has a tendon injury in his right pinky finger, which is his shooting hand. The injury occurred in Saturday’s loss to Atlanta, and he missed Monday’s game against the Cavaliers and had already been ruled out against the Grizzlies on Tuesday. This will have Maxey being re-evaluated on March 31, though he could remain sidelined longer than that. VJ Edgecombe is set to serve as the starting point guard against Memphis and could remain in that role for most of this month, with Cameron Payne filling out the backup minutes.

Edgecombe is back after a three-game absence, and he’s going to spend a lot of time on the ball. As long as the rookie’s back doesn’t flare up, that’s great news for managers who have VJ on their rosters. Cameron Payne will head to the bench, taking on a role in which he offers limited fantasy value.

After a three-game absence, Edgecombe has been cleared to return on Tuesday. As a result, Cameron Payne or Quentin Grimes will head to the bench. Whether he starts or comes off the bench, Grimes offers a much higher fantasy ceiling than Payne. With 76ers head coach Nick Nurse saying that Edgecombe will get plenty of on-ball reps, Payne may be the odd man out of the starting lineup.

Due to Philadelphia’s many injuries, Edwards has re-entered the rotation for the last three games. The 28 minutes he played against the Cavaliers were the most for the second-year wing since late November, and he took advantage of the opportunity. The 14 points were the most in a game for Edwards since November 11, when he scored a season-high 22 in a win over the Celtics. Edwards is not someone who has to be picked up in fantasy leagues, but he’ll have more opportunities to contribute during Philadelphia’s final four games of Week 20.

With no Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe or Joel Embiid, there was plenty of room for Grimes to put points on the board. The 17 points were a team-high, and fantasy managers can benefit from the rebounds, assists and three-pointers as well. After totaling 18 points on 6-of-15 shooting from the field in his prior two games, Johnson recorded his first 20-point game since February 11 on Sunday. And given the limited value he provides outside of points and rebounds, Johnson’s category league value takes a significant hit when the scoring decreases. Since the All-Star break, his value has not cracked the top-250 in eight- or nine-cat formats. For that reason, it was good to see Johnson get untracked against the Rockets.

Castle was one of three Spurs to score at least 20 points on Sunday, with Victor Wembanyama and Keldon Johnson being the others. The second-year guard may not have recorded any defensive stats, but he was efficient on the other end of the floor. Since the All-Star break, Castle has recorded two turnovers or fewer in seven of San Antonio’s ten games. Wemby may be the headliner, and with good reason, but Castle’s improved efficiency as a playmaker has also given the Spurs, 9-1 since the break, a boost.

Castle recorded a second straight double-double, making this the 10th time this season he’s finished with at least 10 assists. He didn’t do much scoring, but with Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron fox combining for 67 points, he didn’t need to. Castle has been a solid source of assists and steals in his second season in the league, though he has been limited in category leagues by in inefficiencies. There’s no such thing as “garbage time” when you’re looking to earn more opportunities. This is the first time in Walker’s NBA career that he’s scored at least 20 points in consecutive games. After putting up an inefficient 33 points in Tuesday’s blowout loss to the Spurs, Maxey didn’t have the best night shooting the basketball against the Jazz, either. Given the players who were unavailable for the 76ers, it’s unsurprising that Maxey would struggle because of the attention he’s received defensively. There aren’t typically bright spots in a 40-point loss, but Walker was able to have a solid night off the bench. Payne signed with the 76ers during the All-Star break and immediately slotted in as a reserve ball handler. That didn’t lead to much production in the box score prior to this game.
