There weren’t a ton of bright spots in this one for the Wizards as they fell to 3-19 on the season and dropped their second straight after a brutal 45-point loss at the hands of the Celtics earlier this week. The 34-year-old veteran remains a decent scoring threat for fantasy purposes, averaging 18.6 points through 22 games, but he doesn’t add much else at this advanced juncture of his career. The Wizards are off until Friday when they face the Cavaliers before closing out the week with a road matchup against the Pacers.

George is back on the injury report as the 76ers look to manage his return from offseason knee surgery. If he’s unable to play on Sunday, Justin Edwards’ playing time would increase after logging just one minute in Friday’s win over the Bucks. However, Edwards would be worth the risk in fantasy leagues.

The Wizards are without Bilal Coulibaly, Khris Middleton and Alex Sarr, with Middleton being the most recent absentee. Maxey had one of his least productive offensive performances of the season on Friday. He scored fewer the 20 points for the first time, due to inefficient shooting and relatively low volume, but also wasn’t as productive as a passer against the Bucks. The versatile combo guard made up for his lack of offensive output on the defensive end, however. Philadelphia ultimately didn’t need Maxey to be in top form, as the team cruised to a 15-point road win on the second night of a back-to-back. Maxey, one of the NBA’s top scorers, likely won’t have another performance like Friday’s for a little while. He should resume his offensive domination on Sunday against the Lakers.

Grimes had the hot hand on Friday and used it to finish as the Sixers’ leading scorer for the game. He was especially dialed in from deep, accounting for more than a third of Philadelphia’s 17 made three-pointers on the evening, while also making contributions on the glass and finishing as one of the Sixers’ most productive passers. Arguably, his only blemish was the five turnovers he committed, which were nearly half of Philly’s total. Still, Grimes was productive off the bench and continues to find ways to contribute.

George notched one of his better performances of the season on Friday. In his seventh appearance, the veteran wing reached the 20-point mark for the second time, while also tying a season-high in assists. Most importantly, George logged 30 minutes for the first time all season, which could serve as an encouraging sign in terms of where he’s currently at from a health standpoint. His final line against the Bucks isn’t elite by any means, but it should allow fantasy managers to at least be optimistic about George’s potential this season.

With Joel Embiid under a minutes restriction and Paul George unavailable, Maxey was once again left to shoulder the offensive workload on Thursday. He had an excellent night, marking the ninth game this season in which he’s scored at least 35 points. And Maxey’s lone blocked shot was huge, as his rejection of a De’Anthony Melton shot attempt as time expired preserved the one-point victory. While many expected Maxey to provide excellent fantasy value this season, he has exceeded his Yahoo! ADP, providing top-5 value in eight-cat formats.

Edgecombe wasn’t the most impactful scorer on Thursday, but he did make the game’s biggest shot. His putback of a Tyrese Maxey fadeaway with nine-tenths of a second remaining gave Philadelphia the 99-98 victory, with the 76ers avoiding losing a game they led by at least 20 points after one quarter for the first time in franchise history. Despite averaging just 8.7 points per game, Edgecombe has been close to a top-50 player in eight-cat formats over the past two weeks. His production in the rebound, assist and steal categories has been a factor, as it was against the Warriors.

Thursday’s game was Embiid’s first since November 30, so the minutes restriction was unsurprising. Unfortunately for those who have him rostered, the 7-footer missed all six of his three-point attempts. And until Embiid can get in a solid run of games, managers will have to deal with a lack of sharpness. Don’t expect to see him on the court when the 76ers visit the Bucks on Friday, meaning enhanced roles for Andre Drummond and Adem Bona.

George entered Thursday’s game in a slump, having shot 8-of-28 from the field over the previous three games. He got back on track against the Celtics, but it wasn’t enough to help Washington avoid a 45-point defeat. The recent slump dropped his fantasy value just outside the top-100, but the second-year wing should be fine. He remains someone who has to be rostered in all 12-team leagues, and George will be more valuable later in the season.

Due to the nature of Thursday’s game, with the Wizards losing 146-101, Middleton only played 25 minutes. In a more competitive game, he likely plays more, especially with Bilal Coulibaly and Tre Johnson sidelined due to injury. Rostered in 14 percent of Yahoo! leagues, the veteran forward has been a 12th-round player over the last two weeks. Embiid, who was sidelined for injury management reasons, will be available to play against the Warriors. Given the time missed and the fact that both knees have been problematic, his minutes will be restricted. That said, Embiid doesn’t need to log 33-35 minutes to provide solid fantasy value.
