Is Kessler going through a Brook Lopez-like transformation right before our eyes? Probably not, but the increased confidence in his perimeter shot has been great to see. On Wednesday, Kessler shot 3-of-4 from beyond the arc and is 6-of-8 on the season. In 2024-25, he shot 6-of-34 from deep and entered this season 11-of-56. Add in the points, rebounds, defensive stats and improved assists, and Kessler has been a top-15 player in nine-cat formats thus far. Will he remain there? Who knows. However, with the improved perimeter shot, his ceiling may be higher than many fantasy managers imagined.

George was inadvertently kneed in the head during the fourth quarter. After some time in the locker room, he returned, which may be a positive sign regarding the severity of the injury. George has exceeded his Yahoo! ADP of 118 thus far, sitting just outside the top-50 in nine-cat formats. He’s still rostered in 53 percent of Yahoo! leagues, which is too low a percentage with Isaiah Collier still unavailable due to a hamstring injury.

Based on his hot start, fantasy managers who decided to pass on Markkanen in drafts due to late-season tanking concerns may regret their choices. He’s scored 30 points or more in three straight games, a feat he did not accomplish during the 2024-25 season. Wednesday’s final stat line was robust, with the 32 points being supplemented by five rebounds and six “stocks.” Through four games, Markkanen is providing top-10 fantasy value, which may prompt some managers to entertain the possibility of selling high. That said, there’s nothing wrong with holding onto Lauri, either.

LaVine has scored at least 30 points in four of five games so far this season. The 30-year-old shooting guard made just 2-of-8 attempts from behind the three-point line. Sabonis’ rebounding production remains elite, but that wasn’t expected to be an issue. What should have concerned fantasy managers more than it did, based on his Yahoo! ADP of 18, was the potential hit Sabonis’ scoring and assists could take. Through three games, he’s averaging 10.7 points and 2.3 assists. Between Dennis Schröder, Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan, at least three other starters operate best with the ball in their hands. It’s early, so all isn’t lost for Sabonis, but this is something that fantasy managers must watch.

Having scored 30, 31 and 32 points in his first three games, LaVine could not produce another 30-point effort on Tuesday. However, thanks to the ability to get to the foul line, he made it four straight games of 20 points or more. LaVine did not produce any defensive stats, so he’s barely a top-50 player despite averaging 29 points per game. However, based on his ADP, LaVine has been better than many expected before the season began.

After needing 22 shots to score 21 points in Sunday’s loss to the Lakers, DeRozan was a bit more efficient on Tuesday. Despite shooting 64.7 percent from the foul line, he’s done what fantasy managers expected, providing fifth-round value in nine-cat formats. That shouldn’t change for DeRozan anytime soon. However, if he can boost the free-throw percentage while continuing to provide excellent steals value, Deebo’s fantasy ceiling may be higher than anticipated.

Having been used in a reserve role for his first three games with the Kings, Westbrook replaced Keon Ellis in the starting lineup on Tuesday. While Sacramento didn’t get the win, the veteran point guard shot 4-of-8 from beyond the arc and was one of four starters in double figures. Ellis played 27 minutes off the bench, finishing with 12 points, two rebounds, two steals, one block and two three-pointers. While Ellis offers a higher fantasy ceiling at this stage in their respective career, Westbrook could be worth a look in deep leagues if he remains in the starting lineup. Of course, this will all change once Keegan Murray (thumb) is cleared to return.

Not only did Markkanen set a new career-high for points, but he was able to have the first 50-point regular season game for the Jazz since April 7, 1998. It has been a strong start to the year for Markkanen after a down 2024-25 season; he is averaging 34.7 points and 4.7 three-pointers per game. Whether or not the Jazz trade him or keep him, he’s doing everything he can to improve his value. His fifth-round Yahoo! ADP is looking like a bargain at this point. This was one of the best performances of George’s career as he finished with at least 25 points and 10 assists for the first time. Through three games, he is averaging 20.0 points and 9.7 assists per game, both of which would be the best marks of his career. After a quiet performance in the Jazz’s loss to the Kings on Friday, Kessler bounced back with a monster night. Through three games, he is now averaging 16.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.7 steals, 2.7 blocks and 1.0 triple per game while shooting 85 percent from the floor and 76.5 percent from the line. DeRozan’s had better nights shooting the basketball, but he still finished Sunday’s defeat with his second 20-point game of the season. Remove Friday’s win over the Jazz, in which he only attempted nine shots, and he’s put up 37 in the other two games. DeRozan will continue to get his shots, giving him a shot at providing top-50 fantasy value. The player whose fantasy value may be most negatively impacted is Domantas Sabonis. Foul trouble was a factor on Sunday, but Domas (10/14/3/3 with one three-pointer) has attempted 17 shots through two games. That’s a concern, especially for managers who grabbed him with a first-round pick.

After totaling 13 points and five assists in his first two games with the Kings, Westbrook was far more productive on Sunday. Maybe playing against the Lakers was motivation, but Westbrook shot 50 percent from the field and was a blocked shot shy of a complete stat line. Also, he was 4-of-6 from three. Westbrook had five games last season in which he made five three-pointers, so this is unlikely to become a common occurrence. Add in the poor foul shooting, and there’s reason for fantasy managers to remain skeptical even after Westbrook’s solid showing against the Lakers.

Having totaled 10 assists and eight turnovers in Sacramento’s first two games, Schröder had a much cleaner performance on Sunday, even if he didn’t shoot the ball well. Two turnovers countered the 12 assists, and the veteran point guard finished with a complete stat line. Schröder had seven games last season in which he dished out at least 10 assists, so nights like Sunday are unlikely to become the norm. Unfortunately, the Kings don’t have a great Week 2 schedule. Initially questionable for Sunday’s game due to an illness, LaVine looked healthy during his 40 minutes on the court. He’s scored at least 30 points in his first three games, his most productive run since scoring 30 or more in five straight in January. While there are usage concerns for some of the other key players in the Kings’ rotation, that isn’t the case for LaVine. Sacramento hits the road for three games during Week 2, starting with Oklahoma City on Tuesday.

Despite struggling from beyond the arc, Markannen put together an efficient shooting performance overall as he made his way past the 30-point mark for the first time this season. The veteran forward led Utah in scoring and was one of five Jazz players to reach double figures. Markannen wasn’t involved much as either a rebounder or facilitator in his 36 minutes, nor did he accumulate any stocks. LaVine went for 30 points in the season-opener on Wednesday and followed that performance with another 30 piece on Friday. Against the Jazz, the versatile perimeter scorer utilized the three-point shot, free throws, and work inside the arc to finish with a team-high in points. His production and efficiency from deep were especially noteworthy on Friday after shooting just 2-of-10 from three the game prior. Having agreed to a one-year deal on October 15, Westbrook played 19 minutes off the bench in his Kings’ debut. While the rebound production was solid, he did not shoot the ball well, which has often been said about Westbrook in recent years. Dennis Schröder (14/1/7/2/1 with two three-pointers in 30 minutes) is the starter and will remain in that role for the foreseeable future. That doesn’t bode well for Westbrook’s fantasy ceiling, which will remain extremely low due to his place within the rotation.

Monk returned to the Kings’ rotation after missing the final two preseason games due to an illness. He looked sharp offensively, shooting the ball well and scoring 19 of Sacramento’s 37 bench points. Even though he came off the bench, Monk is a more valuable option to fantasy league managers with Keegan Murray (thumb) and Domantas Sabonis (hamstring) unavailable. With spot starters Nique Clifford and Drew Eubanks (4/4/0/2/4) combining to score six points, the Kings needed someone to step up. Although it was in a losing effort, Monk answered the call. DeRozan and Phoenix’s Dillon Brooks were locked in an entertaining back-and-forth throughout Wednesday’s game, but the veteran scorer did not let the trash talking derail him. DeRozan only missed five field-goal attempts on the night, shooting 11-of-15 from inside the arc. The issue for him was the foul line, with the Kings guard/forward going 4-of-9. DeRozan is a career 84.2 percent shooter from the charity stripe, so it’s safe to assume nights like Wednesday won’t become the norm. Also, the rebounds and assists compensate for the low free-throw percentage.

While LaVine struggled with his three-point shot, making just two of ten attempts, he was nearly unstoppable from two. The veteran wing shot 11-of-14 from inside the arc, with six occurring in the restricted area. The Jazz starting lineup will raise some eyebrows, as Mykhailiuk and Filipowski are among the first five. The former filled that role throughout the preseason, while the latter started Utah’s preseason finale after being limited during training camp. Filipowski is the superior option for fantasy managers, as he offers a more varied offensive repertoire than Mykhailiuk. After offering limited production in his first action of the preseason on Monday, Filipowski was slightly better on Thursday. And his role changed, with the second-year forward/center starting while Taylor Hendricks (8/7/2 with one three-pointer in 24 minutes) came off the bench. While starting point guard Keyonte George only dished out two assists on Thursday, frontcourt starters Markkanen and Walker Kessler combined for 13. Markkanen, responsible for five helpers, shot the ball well and was a steal shy of a complete stat line. Lauri’s production has not been the concern for fantasy managers since he arrived in Utah; it has been the front office’s willingness to tank. While the front office said all the right things during the offseason regarding their desire to compete this season, the Western Conference is loaded, and a potential first overall pick (AJ Dybantsa) is playing not too far down the road at BYU. Those circumstances conspire to push Markkanen down some draft boards, even if he’s good enough to finish safely within the top-50 in fantasy basketball.

George, who averaged 5.6 assists per game last season, did most of his damage as a scorer in Utah’s preseason finale. Walker Kessler, taking on more of the facilitating duties and doing a good job of it, freed up George to hunt for his shot more, and he did so efficiently. With Isaiah Collier (hamstring) out and Walter Clayton Jr. (8/3/5/1 in 19 minutes) being a rookie, George may have the starting point guard job sewn up ahead of the October 22 regular season opener. Limited by a left shoulder injury, Kessler saw his first action of the preseason on Thursday. And there were few, if any, signs of rust. More of the offense ran through the 7-footer, resulting in Kessler recording eight assists. The lack of turnovers was just as impressive, with Kessler only committing one. He only averaged 1.7 assists per game last season, recording five or more on five occasions, so fantasy managers should not overreact to Thursday’s performance. However, if Kessler is given more opportunities within the half-court to facilitate, that may raise his fantasy ceiling.
