Thompson left Wednesday’s game against the Celtics late with what appeared to be a nasty leg injury. The 22-year-old small forward was merely dealing with a cramp and wasn’t even listed on the injury report ahead of Friday’s game. Thompson appeared to be fine Friday as his trademark defense resulted in five steals for the second game in a row. The potential is there for Thompson to be a fantasy stud, but he hasn’t provided much scoring in this last three games.

Cunningham has been carrying the Pistons lately as Detroit had won eight games in a row entering play Friday. The 23-year-old point guard was due for a bad game and he struggled against a Nuggets team that won the championship two years ago. Cunningham’s 11 points were his lowest in a game all season long, but he’s been a top-15 player in fantasy over the last three weeks. He’ll look to bounce back Saturday against the Nets.

Schroder and Fontecchio were initially probable for Friday’s game, so the status upgrades were expected. Schroder’s return after a one-game absence will likely bump Marcus Sasser out of the rotation. Fontecchio’s return after missing two games will not have as much impact, but it may mean fewer minutes for Ron Holland II.

Bassey will remain out with a bone bruise in his left knee. Bismack Biyombo will remain the starting center, with Jeremy Sochan picking up additional minutes off the bench. Sandro Mamukelashvili has also played additional minutes, but he does not have the streaming appeal that Biyombo or Sochan possesses;

Sochan exited Wednesday’s loss to the Rockets during the second quarter after taking a shot to the Head and did not return. However, there was no need to enter the league’s concussion protocol, and he’s available for Saturday’s game. Sandro Mamukelashvili will likely play fewer minutes off the bench, removing any streaming value he may have had.

The Spurs signed Biyombo after Victor Wembanyama was ruled out for the season and now he’ll get to finish out the year with them. It appears like he’ll get a chance to continue starting at center.

Schroder is set to return from a one-game layoff. Fontecchio missed the Pistons’ previous two games after suffering a finger injury. Both players should assume their usual backup roles.

Sochan’s Wednesday night in Houston ended prematurely, as he was hit in the head during the second quarter and did not return. His exit resulted in more rotation minutes for Sandro Mamukelashvili, who finished with 12 points, four rebounds, three steals and two three-pointers in 20 minutes. Even if Sochan has to miss time, there isn’t much to gain from adding Mamukelashvili, whose production has been inconsistent since the Spurs lost Victor Wembanyama for the rest of the season.

Castle finished Wednesday’s defeat tied for the team-high in points with Keldon Johnson, but the rookie struggled from deep. He shot 1-of-7 from three and is 2-of-16 since the All-Star break. It’s fair to wonder if the busy weekend in San Francisco has been a factor, as Castle was active on all three days (Rising Stars Challenge, Dunk Contest and Sunday’s All-Star tournament). The good news for fantasy managers is that the points, rebounds, assists and steals were solid on Wednesday; only the field-goal percentage was problematic. While the Spurs don’t want to change their approach as the season winds down, Castle will have ample opportunities to “spread his wings” within the system.

After scoring nine points on 4-of-13 shooting in the Spurs’ final two games before the All-Star break, Johnson has reached double figures in five straight. Surpassing the 20-point mark in two outings, including Wednesday’s defeat, he has been a top 100 player in eight-cat formats. With Devin Vassell (nine points, five rebounds, three assists and one three-pointer in 24 minutes) continuing to struggle, it wouldn’t be a terrible idea to consider rostering Johnson in the short term. He’s available in 69 percent of Yahoo! leagues, so he won’t be too difficult to find on the waiver wire.

Beasley shot 5-of-8 from the field in the first half and finished with a team-high 26 points, recording his third 20-point game in his last six outings. Rostered in 41 percent of Yahoo! leagues, the Pistons guard has provided sixth-round value in eight-cat formats over the past three weeks. And with Jaden Ivey (leg) not guaranteed to return before the fantasy playoff rounds, Beasley is a must-have in 14-team leagues, and he’s worth adding in 12-team formats.

Cunningham didn’t shoot the ball as well as he’s capable of on Wednesday, but he still recorded his third points/assists double-double in four games. Over the past three weeks, the Pistons point guard has provided top-10 per-game value in eight-cat formats. And despite averaging 4.4 turnovers per game during this stretch, Cunningham has been a top-15 player in nine-cat. Cunningham continues to be one of the NBA’s most improved players, leading one of the biggest turnarounds in recent NBA history.

Thompson suffered an apparent leg injury during the fourth quarter, exiting with just under eight minutes remaining and not returning. However, the Pistons announcers described the issue as a cramp when announcing that Thompson would not return, so that’s good news. Thompson didn’t provide much scoring in his 27 minutes, but he did accumulate five steals. The Pistons end Week 17 with a Friday/Saturday back-to-back against the Nuggets and Nets.

Schroder has been downgraded from questionable to out, freeing up rotation minutes within the Pistons’ second unit. Marcus Sasser may pick up additional minutes, but he’s unlikely to impact fantasy basketball as Cade Cunningham’s backup.

Bassey will miss another game with a bone bruise in his left knee, leaving the Spurs light on options at the center position with Victor Wembanyama done for the season. Bismack Biyombo will remain in the starting lineup and is worth streaming for managers needing rebounds. Sandro Mamukelashvili will play rotation minutes off the bench, but there’s no need to consider adding him.

Schroder has averaged 8.2 points and 4.2 dimes across 18.1 minutes in six games with Detroit, so his potential absence won’t cause much of a fuss amongst fantasy hoops enthusiasts. Marcus Sasser may earn some extra playing time.

Fontecchio will miss a second straight game due to a dislocated finger, and his next chance to return will be Friday when the Pistons host the Nuggets. Fontecchio’s absence won’t cause much of an impact in the world of fantasy hoops, as his production has been minimal this season when available.

Biyombo recorded his second double-double in as many games on Tuesday, with the 12 rebounds being a season-high for the veteran center. While he’s been more productive than any of the Spurs’ other available options with Victor Wembanyama done for the season, Biyombo is on his second 10-day contract. Rostered in 15 percent of Yahoo! leagues, he offers superior streaming value to Sandro Mamukelashvili (two points, one rebound, one assist, one steal and one block in 12 minutes) or Charles Bassey, who did not play due to a knee injury. However, fantasy managers would be better served to look for Jeremy Sochan (12 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two blocks in 19 minutes; 42 percent rostered) on their waiver wire before adding Biyombo.

Fantasy managers who have Fox rostered will be pleased with the assists and steals, with the six pilfers matching his career-high (living up to the “Swipa” nickname). Unfortunately, efficiency was a problem, as Fox shot 6-of-21 from the field and committed six turnovers. He has averaged 2.8 turnovers per game since making his Spurs debut, so this category has not been a significant issue for Fox. He has provided top-30 value in eight-cat formats as a Spur, not too far removed from his season-long production (top-25).

Vassell’s struggles have been well-documented, with the Spurs guard ranked just inside the top 200 in eight-cat formats over the past month. Not only has the scoring been down (13.8 ppg), but he’s only shot 39.1 percent from the field. Vassell didn’t have a great night shooting the ball, but he finished with 20 points after going five straight with 13 or less. With Victor Wembanyama done for the season, many fantasy managers hoped the injury would catalyze Vassell. Unfortunately, that has not been the case, but Tuesday’s stat line helps.
