On a night when their starting backcourt of Amen Thompson and Josh Okogie combined to score 15 points, the Rockets received solid contributions from Holiday and Reed Sheppard (12/2/3 with two three-pointers) off the bench. The 19 points were the second-most in a game this season for Holiday, who has reached double figures in six of his last seven appearances. However, his fantasy value remains extremely low. The recent run does not change the fact that managers should leave Holiday on the waiver wire.

Smith took advantage of Alperen Şengün’s absence due to an illness, recording a complete stat line while shooting better than 50 percent from the field. While he has reached double figures in scoring in 13 straight games, Saturday’s defeat was the third in which Smith scored at least 20 points. While he is providing top-100 value, Smith has a limited ceiling due to the presence of Şengün and Kevin Durant.

Of the 71 points scored by Rockets starters, Durant and Jabari Smith Jr. were responsible for 49 of them. The limited production from the other starters was too much to overcome in Dallas, as Houston desperately missed Alperen Şengün (illness). Over the past two weeks, Durant has provided top-15 value in eight- and nine-cat formats. Houston plays once during Week 8, and they’ll have a total of five games in leagues that will combine Weeks 8 and 9 to account for the NBA Cup.

Markkanen made the most of an overall poor effort from the Jazz on Friday. The 28-year-old power forward only played 26 minutes in the 34-point loss to the Knicks, but still managed to put up 18 points and grab nine rebounds. The Jazz have another difficult matchup with the Thunder to close out Week 7 on Sunday.

Smith Jr. tallied another double-digit scoring performance, marking his 18th in 19 games this season — he didn’t get many looks at the rim on Friday but made the most of his opportunities. There wasn’t much production elsewhere for the fourth-year forward against Phoenix, but it wasn’t needed in the lopsided win. He’ll have a chance to find more production on Saturday against Dallas.

Thompson put on a stellar display of basketball on the offensive end against the Suns. He made use of the charity stripe but also dominated inside the arc, making 11 two-point shots before reaching the 30-point mark for the first time all season. He led all scorers for the game and extended his streak of 20-point games to three. He’ll have a chance to secure another high-scoring outing against the Mavericks on Saturday.

Durant put on a very balanced performance on Friday in the first game of the season against his former team. He was accurate inside the arc, as well as beyond it, but also dished out a game-high in assists while being active on the defensive end. Arguably, the only blemish on the night for the two-time Finals MVP was the five turnovers he committed. He otherwise had a successful outing and continues to play well in his first season with the Rockets.

Şengün was downgraded from questionable to out ahead of Friday’s matchup with the Suns. The Rockets will instead start veteran center Steven Adams in place of Şengün as they look to secure a second win over Phoenix this season. The veteran center will return from a one-game absence to face the Knicks on Friday. He’s served as Utah’s starting center since Walker Kessler (shoulder) was lost for the season. Sengun popped up as questionable with an illness on Friday afternoon ahead of the matchup against the Suns. The 23-year-old center’s status is up in air with mere hours to get over his illness. If Sengun is out, Steven Adams and Clint Capela will handle the center duties for the Rockets.

Nurkić missed Thursday’s game against the Nets with a rib injury with Kyle Filipowski replacing him in the starting lineup. Filipowski had 15 points, eight rebounds and five assists in the win over Brooklyn. With Jusuf Nurkić (rib) unavailable, Filipowski made his first start since Halloween and sixth of the season on Thursday. All that was missing from the second-year center’s stat line was a blocked shot, but many fantasy managers will take what Filipowski did bring to the table. Rostered in 18 percent of Yahoo! leagues, his fantasy value in the short term hinges upon Nurkić’s availability. However, there’s likely to come a point later in the season when the Jazz prioritize getting young players like Filipowski even more minutes than they’re already playing.

While his name may not be mentioned very often in early Most Improved Player conversations, there’s no denying that George has made impressive strides after two uneven seasons in Utah. On Thursday, the guard recorded his third double-double of the season, and he only committed one turnover in 31 minutes of play. George is providing third-round value in eight-cat formats, well ahead of his Yahoo! ADP (116). Rostered in 79 percent of Yahoo! leagues, managers in shallow formats must ensure that George isn’t sitting on the waiver wire.

Markkanen has scored at least 30 points in nine games this season, including Thursday’s win over the Nets. Entering the season with a Yahoo! ADP of 56, the Jazz forward has been close to a top-25 player in eight-cat formats thus far. Of course, the possibility of a late-season shutdown is why Markkanen’s ADP took a hit. As a result, those who were willing to roll the dice were rewarded handsomely during the season’s first quarter. Markkanen should face more resistance on Friday when the Jazz visit the Knicks.

A 20-point scorer in two consecutive games for the third time this season, Thompson recorded his fourth double-double on Wednesday. Also, this was his first game with at least 20 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists since November 5 against the Grizzlies. In addition to scoring at least 24 points in each of his last three games, Durant dished out a season-high eight assists on Wednesday. Given his skill set, it’s unsurprising that the future Hall of Fame forward has fit in seamlessly with his new teammates. Thompson finished with at least 20 points for the third time in the last five games, with his production inside the arc being key on Monday. Despite the loss, his scoring was significantly higher than the five points he posted the night prior against the Jazz. Yet, Thompson didn’t have nearly the same level of success as a facilitator this time around. Nonetheless, the third-year guard had a solid performance overall and should be able to secure another against the Kings on Wednesday.

Sengün was fantastic in Monday’s loss, reaching the 30-point mark for the third time this season while providing much more production as a rebounder and facilitator than the previous night against the Jazz. And as if his near-triple-double wasn’t enough, the fifth-year center had his most dominant defensive performance of the season from a fantasy basketball standpoint, tallying seven stocks for the game. Sengün is likely to make a massive impact on the offensive end each time he takes the floor. If his defensive production can remain consistent, his floor and ceiling will rise even further in fantasy leagues.

Durant was one of two Rockets to pass the 30-point mark on Monday in Salt Lake City. He tallied as many free throws as he did made field goals in this game, with high volume allowing his inefficient shooting to make enough scoring production to lead Houston in points. The two-time Finals MVP also tied a season-high in rebounds to fall just shy of a double-double. His five turnovers were one of his limited weaknesses on the night. He’ll have a chance to put together another strong performance against the Kings on Wednesday.

Nurkić flirted with a double-double for the second straight game against the Rockets. On the second night of a back-to-back, he was productive inside the arc as a scorer and set a new season-high in points before fouling out of the contest. After finishing with zero points on Sunday against the Rockets, George responded on the second night of a back-to-back by nearly putting 30 points on those same Rockets a day later. He shot well from the floor overall and also got back on track as a facilitator after a quiet previous game in that area. Six turnovers were arguably the only standout weakness of George’s on Monday’s outing. Otherwise, he put together a nice bounce-back game.

On the second night of a back-to-back, Markannen led the Jazz in points in the rematch with the Rockets. His scoring production was particularly notable on a night when the Jazz had seven players score in double figures, including all five starters. He was also effective on the glass, but ultimately came up two boards shy of a double-double. A quarter of the way into the season, Markkanen is averaging more points per game than he has in any other season — he’s been consistent on that end of the floor so far, which should remain the case moving forward.

George missed all six of his shot attempts and only ended up playing 19 minutes. He entered the game as questionable with an illness but played through it, making it easy to attribute his worst performance of the season to the fact that he was under the weather. Bailey was the leading scorer for Utah and was one of six players to score in double figures for them. That may seem like it was a balanced attack, but nearly a third of the team’s points came in the fourth quarter, after the game was out of reach. Filipowski logged 31 minutes off the bench, which can be attributed to the lopsided score. That was a new season high for minutes, so while he was semi-productive during his time on the floor, he won’t see this many minutes often. It’s good to see him have a productive night as a data point for silly season and dynasty leagues, but it’s unlikely this kickstarts a strong run for him.

Adams only logged 17 minutes in this game, but that was enough time for him to record his third double-double of the season. He was able to dominate down low, but also at the free throw line, which is typically a weakness for him. Adams is shooting a career-best 73.3 percent from the line after shooting 46.2 percent last year and 36.4 percent the year before. He’ll only be worth consistently streaming when Alperen Şengün is unavailable, but this was a strong performance for him.

Şengün didn’t supply his typical dose of rebounds and dimes, but he was unstoppable as a scorer. Sheppard moved into the starting lineup with Kevin Durant (personal) unavailable for two games, but with KD back, Sheppard remained a starter, with Josh Okogie returning to the bench. Sheppard played 31 minutes in the blowout win, and while he didn’t do much scoring, he was able to make a big impact on this game. Bailey’s metamorphosis into a reliable fantasy contributor is slowly starting to accelerate over the last two weeks as he’s eclipsed 20 points in three of his past seven contests while averaging 24 minutes during that span.
