For the first time this season, Ayton has recorded double-doubles in consecutive games. Faced with the challenging task of defending Victor Wembanyama, the Lakers center held his own and provided his team with needed production in the frontcourt. Thus far, Ayton has been a top-100 player in eight- and nine-cat formats, proving to be slightly more valuable in the former. There remains the question of what his role will look like once LeBron James is available to play, but Ayton is in a good spot right now.

When the Lakers played Portland earlier this season, Ayton was held to 16 points and eight rebounds in what ended up being one of their two losses this season. Since then, they’ve won four games in a row, and Ayton came up big in this one with a new season-high for points. This was Ayton’s best outing of the season, which was pivotal to the victory. Next up on the schedule is a matchup with Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs, which isn’t a favorable matchup for Ayton.

Ayton will be back after a one-game absence against Miami on Sunday. Jaxson Hayes got the starting nod in that game, but he will return to a reserve role with Ayton available to take on his former team.

Ayton, who experienced back spasms during Friday’s win over the Grizzlies, did not play in Sunday’s win over the Heat. He was replaced in the lineup by Jaxson Hayes, who made all seven of his shot attempts and finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, one assist, one steal, one block and one three-pointer. He will be worth streaming if Ayton has to miss a second consecutive game.

Ayton was downgraded from questionable to out ahead of Sunday’s matchup against Miami after experiencing back pain on Friday against Memphis. The absence will mark the first of Ayton’s early tenure with the Lakers. Jaxson Hayes is a strong candidate to fill in the starting lineup with Ayton unable to take the floor against the Heat.

Ayton experienced back spasms during Friday’s win over the Grizzlies, exiting after playing 17 first-half minutes. Sunday’s game is the first of two in as many nights for the Lakers, who visit the Trail Blazers on Monday. If Ayton cannot play on Sunday, Jaxson Hayes will move into the starting lineup.

Ayton only played 17 minutes in Friday’s win over the Grizzlies due to back spasms. However, head coach JJ Redick said afterward that the limited playing time was for precautionary reasons, and the 7-footer could have gone back into the game if needed. Ayton’s probable tag suggests he will be available on Sunday. If not, Jaxson Hayes will likely move into the starting lineup.

Ayton experienced back spasms during Friday’s game, which limited him to 17 minutes. Lakers head coach JJ Redick said afterward that the 7-footer could have returned, but the team did not want to risk anything, given the time Ayton (nine points) missed last season. Jaxson Hayes started the second half and finished with two points, seven rebounds, five assists and one blocked shot in 23 minutes. He’ll likely move into the starting lineup if Ayton cannot play on Sunday.

Ayton’s double-double was his second in the last three games. The 27-year-old center has been very efficient on offense as he was again Wednesday with 17 points on 11 field goal attempts. Ayton also grabbed 10 rebounds and he’s recorded 33 rebounds over his last three games. He’s poised for a nice bounce back season after falling out with the Trail Blazers last year.

Ayton didn’t have his most productive game of the season on Monday, but logged 36 minutes and nearly landed a double-double against the Trail Blazers. He made more than half of his field goal attempts before finishing as one of the Lakers’ top scorers for the game. The former first-overall pick continues to shoot the ball well and perform decently on the glass early in his tenure with the Lakers. Although he hasn’t often been dominant, Ayton is a nightly double-double threat.

Sunday’s game was the first for the Lakers since losing Luka Dončić to finger and leg injuries, meaning Ayton needed to step up and be a more consistent force than in the first two games. The 7-footer lived up to his self-made nickname of “DominAyton,” recording a double-double and outplaying Sacramento’s Domantas Sabonis. Nights like Sunday will have to be the norm for Ayton during the Lakers’ four-game Week 2, as Dončić could miss all four games.

Ayton made his final three field-goal attempts of the night, getting him into double figures in his official Lakers debut. However, the first three quarters were disappointing by any measure, as he struggled to find his way. With LeBron James (back) unavailable, Ayton should have more offensive opportunities. However, that doesn’t matter if he doesn’t take advantage. Ayton will look to rebound when the Lakers host the Timberwolves on Friday.

While Ayton finished Friday’s preseason finale a rebound shy of a double-double, he and Luka Dončić still need to improve their chemistry on the offensive end of the floor. That’s likely to remain a work in progress, but the Lakers need them to click sooner rather than later due to the fact that LeBron James (sciatica) is out. In theory, his absence should raise Ayton’s fantasy ceiling, but the 7-footer cashing in on the opportunity is not guaranteed.

If this is the type of production that Ayton can provide this season, he will have a chance to be really productive in fantasy hoops. He’s locked in as the starting center for the Lakers, which is a good opportunity for him to bounce back after a forgettable season in Portland, which led to him being bought out.

Ayton had another strong line in the victory, marking arguably his best game of the preseason. Ayton teased a double-double while getting teammates involved and putting in work on the defensive end. Numbers like this would make him a very attractive nightly option in 2025-26 fantasy hoops.

Ayton attempted only two shots in his Lakers debut on Friday, but he fired off eight on Sunday. He made only three of those, which is far from ideal from a player of his size, but the offensive aggression is a step in the right direction. Ayton’s offense isn’t a major concern heading into the regular season, though even if he struggles in that department, fantasy managers can rely on his rebounds and blocks to bolster his floor.

After agreeing to a contract buyout with the Trail Blazers, Ayton agreed to a two-year deal with the Lakers with a player option. Taking on the starting center role on a roster that will, once everyone is available, include Luka Dončić, LeBron James and Austin Reaves, Ayton can offer top-100 fantasy value, even if he’s the fourth option on most nights. However, Friday’s performance was a letdown, especially with Dončić and James unavailable. Ayton only attempted two shots from the field, which cannot happen under those circumstances. The good is that he was active on the glass and recorded three “stocks,” but the 7-footer must be more involved offensively.

Unsurprisingly, Ayton has decided to join the Lakers after agreeing with the Trail Blazers on a contract buyout. Los Angeles had a clear need at the center position, and they’ll look to the first overall pick in the 2018 draft to fill it. While he has averaged a double-double in his first seven seasons, Ayton’s last two years in Portland were underwhelming. Limited to 40 games last year due to injury, he averaged 14.4 points, 10.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.8 steals and 1.0 three-pointer in 30.2 minutes. Ayton is not the uber-athletic center who tends to flourish playing alongside Luka Doncic, but he’ll play starter’s minutes for a hopeful contender. Being in a lineup with Doncic, LeBron James and Austin Reaves will limit Ayton’s fantasy ceiling, but providing top-100 per-game value should not be an issue.
