Alvarado knocked down four treys, including a go-ahead bucket with 15.4 seconds left in the contest, to give New Orleans a much-needed spark off the bench. The Pelicans also got significant contributions from Saddiq Bey, who added 17 points of his own, and high-flying Karlo Matković, who supplied a couple highlight-reel dunks as part of his 13 points. The 27-year-old role player has taken a backseat with rookie Jeremiah Fears getting an opportunity in the starting lineup at the outset of the season, but he cracked the 30-minute mark for the first time this season in this one.

Alvarado played 12 minutes off the bench before going down with the injury, accounting for one rebound and four assists. He’ll be re-evaluated once the Pelicans, who played two games in Melbourne, return to New Orleans. Rookie Jeremiah Fears started Saturday’s 127-92 victory and looked more comfortable than he did in his preseason debut two days prior. In 24 minutes, the lottery pick accounted for 12 points, one rebound, three assists and one three-pointer. With Dejounte Murray (Achilles) still sidelined, Fears will have a more critical role within the rotation if Alvarado’s injury is serious.

Alvarado led the way offensively for Puerto Rico, which suffered its first defeat and fell into second place in Group B. If there was a surprise for the New Orleans Pelicans guard, it was the foul shooting, as he was an out-of-character 1-of-6 from the stripe. By comparison, Alvarado shot 81.1 percent from the line last season and is a 75.7 percent shooter for his NBA career. Puerto Rico had already qualified for the quarterfinals, but Monday’s defeat will impact the team’s seeding.

Puerto Rico, viewed by some to be the favorites to win the FIBA AmeriCup, opened group play with a dominant 93-59 win over Panama on Friday. Alvarado was one of five double-digit scorers for the winners, and he led the team in assists. The point guard is one player whose role in FIBA play will not necessarily match what he’s asked to do for his NBA team, especially with the Pelicans boasting multiple players capable of running the point. While Dejounte Murray is not a lock to be ready when the season begins as he recovers from a ruptured Achilles tendon, New Orleans added Jordan Poole and first-round pick Jeremiah Fears to the roster this summer. Alvarado has been most impactful in fantasy basketball as a streamer, and that may remain the case in 2025-26.

Alvarado struggled in his season finale, especially from a ball security standpoint. The Pelicans’ point guard recorded six turnovers. Add in the poor shooting from the field, and this was a rough afternoon to stream Alvarado in active fantasy leagues. A backup when the Pelicans are whole, Alvarado’s fantasy value is limited. With Dejounte Murray recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon, will New Orleans look to add another point guard over the summer? Or would they be fine handing the keys to Alvarado to begin the season? Those questions will significantly impact Alvarado’s 2025-26 draft position. Alvarado’s two-year, $9 million extension will kick in next season.

Alvarado is looking more and more like a traditional closer. The Phillies probably didn’t need to use him up three against the bottom of the Cardinals order today, but they did so anyway. He retired the side on only 11 pitches, so he should be available again Sunday.

Alvarado and Olynyk were held out of Sunday’s loss to the Bucks, with Elfrid Payton and Antonio Reeves moving into the starting lineup. Reeves’s inclusion shifted Keion Brooks Jr. and Bruce Brown down a position in the lineup. Brown is the best streaming option for managers in active leagues, while Payton can provide assists.

Alvarado will not play in Sunday’s game, opening up a spot in the Pelicans’ starting lineup. Elfrid Payton should be the replacement, and while his scoring output can be limited, he’s worth streaming for deep-league managers needing assists.

Alvarado appeared hobbled during Friday’s loss to the Lakers but still logged 28 minutes as the starting point guard. With CJ McCollum done for the season, the Pelicans would have to rely on Elfrid Payton if Alvarado is unavailable on Sunday. Payton does not provide much value as a scorer, but he would be worth streaming in deep leagues for managers needing assists.

Alvarado continues to take advantage of the Pelicans missing multiple starters down the stretch of the season. The 26-year-old point guard has now taken at least 12 shots in five consecutive games, something he seldom did before that stretch. Alvarado was just 2-for-21 from behind the three-point line in his previous four games so he was due to make six three-pointers as he did against the Lakers. Expect Alvarado to keep chucking with inconsistent results as the Pelicans finish out the season.

Alvarado finished Wednesday’s game with his second double-double of the season, which was his first since March 9. Rostered in 18 percent of Yahoo! leagues, his fantasy ceiling raised significantly when the Pelicans ruled out CJ McCollum and Zion Williamson for the rest of the season. The good news for fantasy managers is that New Orleans plays two more games during Week 22, so there’s a decent chance they’ll receive solid value by rostering Alvarado.

Alvarado has been upgraded from questionable to available for Sunday’s game. The Pelicans guard has a good chance to continue starting alongside CJ McCollum in the backcourt against Detroit.

Alvarado moved into the starting lineup on Wednesday, the Pelicans’ first game since they lost Trey Murphy to a season-ending shoulder injury. He didn’t provide much scoring, but the assists and three-pointers will benefit some deep-league managers. Alvarado effectively split minutes with Jordan Hawkins, who logged 23 and finished with 13 points, six rebounds, one assist, one steal, one block and two three-pointers. Alvarado offers a safer fantasy floor, but Hawkins will also have deep-league value for the rest of the season.

Wednesday’s game is the first since Trey Murphy suffered a season-ending labrum tear in his shoulder. Alvarado moves into the starting lineup, which raises his fantasy ceiling. Jordan Hawkins should also play more, but Alvarado is the player to target on waiver wires.

Alvarado was a solid reserve option for New Orleans on Thursday and was a key piece in their improved second half. Alvarado scored all 12 of his points after halftime, which they entered trailing by 30 points. The Pelicans were better after the break, but it wasn’t enough to truly pull off a comeback. Still, it was encouraging to see Alvarado play well even as a reserve. It would be surprising if Alvarado didn’t get the chance to return to the starting lineup at some point this season, and that would make him an appealing streaming option.

Alvarado is considered questionable ahead of a third-straight game, but he did not miss either of the first two. With CJ McCollum and Zion Williamson removed from the injury report for Tuesday’s game, Alvarado will likely come off the bench if available. Dejounte Murray’s season-ending Achilles tear raised Alvarado’s fantasy ceiling, but coming off the bench minimizes his impact.

With CJ McCollum and Zion Williamson out, Alvarado took over the primary playmaker duties on Sunday. The 11 assists were a season-high for the Pelicans point guard, who recorded one steal and two blocked shots. Alvarado didn’t have a good night shooting the ball, as he was 0-of-8 from inside the three-point line, but the assists and defensive stats were solid. New Orleans plays three games without a back-to-back during Week 19, so there won’t be much to gain from rostering Alvarado in most leagues.

Initially questionable for Sunday’s game, Alvarado is available. He’ll be in the starting lineup, which raises Alvarado’s fantasy ceiling. He’s worth rostering in deep leagues due to the Pelicans’ lack of healthy point guards.

Alvarado was one of the Pelicans’ lone bright spots in the 29-point loss, as he led the squad in assists and tied for second in scoring. He should continue to see minutes in the low to mid-20s for the foreseeable future.

Due to a sore left hip, Alvarado is questionable for Saturday’s game. If he’s unable to play, Jamal Cain may enter the rotation, especially with Bruce Brown ruled out. Cain would not be worth streaming in fantasy leagues.
