Banton has spent time with the Raptors, Celtics and most recently the Trail Blazers. It’s unclear what kind of deal he’s signed with the Mavericks, but Banton will likely be competing for a spot on Dallas’ final roster. He provided a spark for the Blazers last season, averaging 16 points, 3.7 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.7 triples across the final seven games of the 2024-25 campaign.

Banton played well as the starting point guard for Portland over their final seven games of the season. During this stretch as a starter, he has scored at least 20 points four times. He was also able to match his season-high of 23 points, which he has done a surprising four times this season without ever scoring more. Banton has benefitted from the absences of Anfernee Simons and Scoot Henderson, and he is set to be a free agent this summer. He could find a new team where he can be the backup point guard, but it will be difficult for him to find a situation where he can start.

Banton started and played 31 minutes Friday against the Warriors with Anfernee Simons and Scoot Henderson ruled out. The 25-year-old point guard is capable of big games when given the opportunity, but this certainly wasn’t one of those. Banton couldn’t get his shot to fall as he finished with three points on 1-of-12 shooting from the field. Portland finishes up the season Sunday with a matchup against the Lakers. While Banton could be in line for a similar workload, he’s made it difficult to trust him on the final day of the season.

Banton has started Portland’s last four games, filling the void at point guard with Anfernee Simons (arm) and Scoot Henderson (concussion) unavailable. Shooting a shade below 50 percent from the field and committing one turnover, efficiency was not an issue for Banton against the Spurs. The 38.9 percent mark from the field is why he’s ranked outside the top 150 in nine-cat formats over the past week. That said, Banton will be worth the risk in active leagues if Simons and Henderson continue to miss time.

Banton has started Portland’s last three games, filling in for the injured Anfernee Simons. He hasn’t shot the ball well, making just 37.5 percent of his attempts, but Banton has averaged 18.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.7 blocks and 2.0 three-pointers per game. A 12th-round player in eight-cat formats during this three-game stretch, Banton will be worth streaming on Sunday if Simons and Scoot Henderson remain out. But that’s only if managers can afford to take a hit in the field-goal percentage category.

Banton got a second-straight start, and after struggling on offense in the first one, he had far more success on Thursday. He matched his season-high for points, which he has now reached four times this season. As long as Anfernee Simons (forearm) and Scoot Henderson (concussion) remain sidelined, Banton will continue to start at point guard. They have two more games this week, including the second night of a back-to-back in Chicago on Friday.

With both Anfernee Simons (forearm) and Scoot Henderson (concussion) sidelined against Atlanta, Banton got the starting nod at point guard. He didn’t have an efficient night as a shooter, but he was able to turn in solid numbers in other categories. This was Banton’s first start of the season, but he had some big games as a starter last year. If Simons and Scoot remain out for Portland’s upcoming back-to-back on Thursday and Friday, Banton will be an appealing streaming option.

Banton will shake off his questionable tag, but he’s unlikely to see meaningful minutes while Portland’s backcourt is mostly healthy.

Banton picked up additional playing time in Friday’s win over the Nuggets, as the Trail Blazers were without Anfernee Simons. However, as Simons was available on Sunday, he only played nine minutes in a loss to the Celtics. Banton’s potential absence does not significantly impact fantasy basketball when the starting guards are available.

Banton hadn’t scored in double figures in eight games in March entering play Friday. With Anfernee Simons (illness) out, the 25-year-old point guard figured to see more minutes off the bench. Banton ended up playing 29 minutes, more than Scoot Henderson, who moved into the starting lineup. Banton put up 19 points and impacted the game on the defensive end with three steals and three blocks. Unfortunately it’s unlikely he sees enough minutes going forward to gain fantasy-relevance.

Banton will be sidelined for the first time in nearly a month, but his absence won’t have a dramatic impact on the team’s rotation. Scoot Henderson will likely pick up a few extra minutes off the bench with Banton unavailable.
