As much as Christmas Day games focus on name-brand stars, the Knicks’ bench was the difference in Thursday’s victory. Clarkson and Tyler Kolek spearheaded an 18-0 second-quarter run that erased a terrible start, and both made key plays during the second half to complete the rally. Clarkson’s 25 points are a season-high, and he’s reached double figures in four of his last five games. If Josh Hart (ankle) has to miss time, Clarkson’s opportunities will likely increase despite coming off the bench.

With Jalen Brunson out Friday against the Heat, Clarkson played the most minutes (33) and scored the most points (24) that he’d had in a game this season. The 33-year-old point guard is averaging 15.8 minutes and 9.1 points this year, which simply isn’t enough to be fantasy viable in his typical role.

Given the amount of time spent in Utah, Clarkson’s need for a bit of time to adjust to playing on a team with championship aspirations is understandable. After scoring 10 points or fewer in each of his first five games as a Knick, he’s scored 15 points in consecutive appearances. In the Knicks’ wins over Chicago and Washington, Clarkson shot 11-of-19 from the field overall and 5-of-11 from beyond the arc. Clarkson and the Knicks will face tougher competition with the Timberwolves visiting on Wednesday, but the last two games were a nice confidence boost for the guard.

Friday’s preseason finale will not be a dress rehearsal for the Knicks, who are without multiple rotation players. Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby, Josh Hart and Mitchell Robinson are all out, with the latter sitting for injury management reasons. Given the situation, it would not be surprising if Brunson, Bridges and Clarkson had their playing time limited on Friday.

A few hours after it was reported that the two sides had mutual interest, Clarkson has reportedly decided to sign with the Knicks once he clears waivers. The veteran guard, who agreed to a contract buyout with the Jazz on Monday, has appeared in 92 games over the last two seasons due to injuries. When healthy, Clarkson can provide value as a bench scorer, as evidenced by his winning Sixth Man of the Year following the 2020-21 season. From a fantasy standpoint, he offers limited value due to the limited production outside of points, assists and three-pointers.

Clarkson was recently bought out of his contract by the Jazz. The 33-year-old point guard isn’t the only big-name veteran with interest in the Knicks as Russell Westbrook is also reportedly interested in joining the reigning Eastern Conference finalists. While neither Westbrook nor Clarkson project for fantasy-relevant roles with the Knicks, both are ideal additions for the veteran minimum.

No surprises with this move, as Utah continues to move backcourt pieces to promote the development of players like Isaiah Collier, Keyonte George and rookie Walter Clayton Jr. Clarkson averaged 17.7 points and 2.4 triples across five full seasons with Utah, and he can offer microwave scoring to contending teams.

Clarkson has dealt with plantar fasciitis in his left foot for much of this season, most recently missing Utah’s March 25 loss to the Grizzlies. The Jazz announced Thursday that he underwent a medical procedure to address the issue and will not play again this season. Utah was already taking steps to ensure its younger players would get all the playing time they need to develop, so Clarkson being ruled out does not change much. Brice Sensabaugh and Cody Williams won’t lack playing time the rest of the way, with the former offering a higher fantasy ceiling.

Clarkson has been downgraded from questionable to out, freeing up minutes within the Jazz perimeter rotation. Cody Williams and Brice Sensabaugh may pick up additional minutes, even though they don’t play the same position as Clarkson. The latter is the superior deep-league streaming option because of his offensive upside.

Clarkson logged 22 minutes in Utah’s blowout loss to Cleveland on Sunday, and he is back on the injury report after missing the game before that on Friday. If he is sidelined against Memphis, Keyonte George, Collin Sexton and Isaiah Collier should all be in line for a few extra minutes.

After playing in Utah’s last two games, Clarkson will miss their matchup in Boston after being a late addition to the injury report. Both Keyonte George and Collin Sexton should see a bump in minutes with Clarkson sidelined.

Clarkson’s late addition to the injury report puts his status for Friday’s matchup in question. If he’s unable to go, Keyonte George and Collin Sexton could help to fill his vacated minutes.

Clarkson did not play in Sunday’s loss to the Timberwolves, and his return meant fewer minutes for Johnny Juzang. While the veteran guard shot 50 percent from the field and dished out three assists, he was also responsible for four turnovers. Add in the 22 minutes, and there may not be much to gain from rostering Clarkson down the stretch. As for Juzang, he finished the loss with eight points, two rebounds, one steal and two three-pointers in 16 minutes. He isn’t a must-roster player, but there will be nights when Juzang is allowed to start as Utah looks to improve its draft lottery odds.

Utah continues to list multiple key players on the injury report, but Clarkson and George have a chance to return for the second leg of a back-to-back set after sitting on Sunday. If Clarkson and George are absent again on Monday, Isaiah Collier, Johnny Juzang and Brice Sensabaugh could see more run.

Clarkson and George are among the Jazz players who will not be available for Sunday’s game, leaving the Jazz light on perimeter options. Isaiah Collier and Collin Sexton should play plenty, with Johnny Juzang and Brice Sensabaugh playing more. Collier and Sensabaugh will likely be the most valuable moving forward.

Clarkson has missed Utah’s last seven games and could remain sidelined against Memphis. If that happens, Collin Sexton will remain in the starting unit as the guard next to Isaiah Collier. Brice Sensabaugh contributed 22 points off the bench on Monday and would likely get the chance to supply more buckets if Clarkson remains out.

Clarkson has missed three of his team’s previous five games and was an abysmal 1-for-14 from the field in his latest outing. Keyonte George will likely get a chance to step into a starting role again if Clarkson can’t go.

Wednesday’s performance was one of the worst of Clarkson’s career. He missed his first 13 shot attempts before making a layup with 1:09 remaining, and the outcome was no longer in doubt. As one would expect, the Delta Center crowd cheered the achievement. However, on a serious note, Clarkson is in a tough spot. Due to the inconsistent availability, as improving its draft lottery odds and developing its young talent appear to be the front office’s priorities, Clarkson hasn’t been able to get into a flow regarding his play in games. And that has negatively impacted his fantasy value, which was already low. Fantasy managers are better off with Isaiah Collier, who’s rostered in 39 percent of Yahoo! leagues and finished Wednesday’s loss with nine points, three rebounds, seven assists, two steals and two three-pointers in 26 minutes.

Clarkson and Kessler return to the Jazz lineup, with the former returning from a two-game absence. Their returns mean Johnny Juzang and Kyle Filipowski will come off the bench, but fantasy managers who have the latter rostered should hold onto him. Due to the unpredictable nature of Utah’s lineups, Filipowski will play plenty as the season winds down.
