Davis is currently out with ligament damage in his left hand and was traded to Washington despite the injury. He recently met with Dr. Steven Shin, a hand specialist, and was cleared for the limited return to practice. The Wizards released a statement that Davis will be re-evaluated in two weeks, at which time they will have a clearer timeline of when, or if, he can return to the court this season.

Davis, who suffered ligament damage in his left hand in early January, is progressing in his recovery. However, the Wizards’ forward/center still has not been cleared for basketball activities. For fantasy managers who can afford to take their chances on Davis being active at some point, he’s worth holding onto in an IL slot. That said, managers in leagues where the playoffs will begin before Davis’ re-evaluation will have to seek alternatives.

Two days after NBA insider Chris Haynes reported that Davis was unlikely to play again this season, Dawkins said that he anticipates the forward/center returning at some point. In the short term, Davis will return to Dallas to work with his medical team as he recovers from ligament damage in his left hand. Dawkins also noted that the 4-to-6 week timeline provided in mid-January is closer to 6-to-10 weeks. If Davis were to play this season, the timeline suggests he won’t be available until sometime in March.

With the Wizards likely focused on doing all they can to avoid losing their 2026 first-round pick, which is top-8 protected, to the Knicks, Davis not making his debut for the team until next season would be an unsurprising development. It was reported in mid-January that Davis’ left hand injury wouldn’t require surgery to repair the ligament damage. Will he go through with the procedure now that it’s reportedly been decided that Davis won’t play this season? For fantasy managers who have been stashing Davis in an IL spot, it’s time to move on.

The firsts include the Thunder pick in 2026 and a protected Warriors pick in 2030. Davis is set to be re-evaluated in late February, but managers shouldn’t expect to see him play much down the stretch as the Wizards look to improve their lottery odds. However, Davis joins Trae Young and a talented young core in Washington, and they should add another top pick this summer. Davis will form an elite defensive tandem down low with Alex Sarr that should allow Washington to return to the postseason as early as 2027, assuming they plan to keep him around.

This is an update from a previous report from Charania that indicated that AD would likely undergo surgery and miss several months. Davis took to social media to say those reports were false, so it isn’t surprising that Charania provided an updated timeline. This will have Davis being re-evaluated in late February, which makes a trade far more likely. Until that happens (or doesn’t), Daniel Gafford should start at center.

Shams also notes that the Mavericks have renewed trade talks for Davis, and he could be moved to a contender before the deadline, which would shorten his return date and get him established with a new team. This latest development means we may have seen the last of Davis in a Dallas uniform, ending one of the shortest and most bizarre runs in recent memory. Davis has appeared in just 29 games for the Mavericks after the improbable blockbuster deal that swapped him for Luka Dončić. Fantasy managers holding onto Davis can safely drop him to free up a valuable IL spot, as he’s not expected to be back prior to the postseason, if at all. Daniel Gafford should continue to soak up minutes at center, though given his injury history, Moussa Cisse should see a fair share of minutes, too. Naji Marshall and PJ Washington will be heavily involved in the rotation, and all three of Cisse, Marshall and Washington are worth snagging off the waiver wire if available.

Davis injured his left hand during the fourth quarter of Thursday’s loss to the Jazz. According to Charania, a second opinion on the injury’s severity will be sought. If surgery is required, Davis could miss “a number of months.” With the Mavericks’ forward/center being the subject of trade rumors, an extended absence would likely put those to rest. As for Dallas’ approach to the rest of the season, losing Davis could affect Kyrie Irving’s return from the ACL tear he suffered last March. Dallas’s first-round pick in June’s draft is the last one that they’ll have complete control over until 2031, so the front office could decide that punting on the rest of this season is in the franchise’s best interest.

Davis was effective in his 35 minutes of game action, finishing as one of three Mavericks players to score at least 20 points and one of two to collect double-digit rebounds. Thursday’s double-double marked his 13th of the season. However, the veteran big man exited the floor late in the fourth quarter after suffering a hand injury and didn’t return. His status moving forward will certainly be worth monitoring from a fantasy basketball standpoint.

Davis didn’t have a good night shooting the basketball, but rebounds and blocked shots helped compensate. The 16 rebounds were one shy of his season-high, and the Mavericks’ forward/center has blocked seven shots over his last two games. With Daniel Gafford (10 points, 13 rebounds, one steal and one blocked shot) in the starting lineup, Davis can lurk more defensively, giving more opportunities to block shots from the weak side. While being the lone big on the floor may boost Davis’ offensive value, sharing the court with another big helps him defensively.

The decision to replace Ryan Nembhard in the starting lineup with Daniel Gafford (9/8/1/0/2 in 19 minutes) pushed Davis to his preferred power forward role, and he had one of his most impactful games of the season. In addition to recording his 11th double-double of the season, the Mavericks’ forward/center tallied a season-high five blocked shots. Davis is more comfortable at the four, but how much he gets to play there depends on Gafford’s availability. The Mavericks play three games in Week 12, starting with the Kings on Tuesday.

After missing two games with a groin injury suffered on Christmas Day, Davis was back in the Mavericks’ starting lineup on Thursday. Interestingly, there was no minutes restriction, with the forward/center logging 37 minutes. Davis getting out of the game without issue is a positive, but that may have been a surprise for some fantasy managers. Daniel Gafford played 11 minutes off the bench, finishing with eight points, five rebounds and two steals.

As anticipated, Davis will return from a groin injury suffered on Christmas Day against the Warriors that forced him to miss the last two games. Davis has dealt with injuries throughout the season, but has been a productive two-way center when healthy, posting averages of 20.5 points, 10.9 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and 1.3 steals. His presence will improve Dallas’ chances of ending its three-game losing streak.

Davis will be back after a two-game absence. Daniel Gafford entered the starting lineup in his place, but he’ll likely return to playing a reserve role with AD back. Gafford should still play a large reserve role, but his upside will be capped by coming off the bench.

Davis was initially questionable for Monday’s game, despite it being reported on Friday that he would miss “a few” games after injuring his groin on Christmas Day against the Warriors. Daniel Gafford should once again start at center, but the combination of limited playing time and production has lowered his fantasy ceiling.

Initially reported to be sidelined for multiple games, Davis is listed as questionable on the initial injury report for Monday’s game. He did not play in Saturday’s loss to the Kings, with Daniel Gafford moving into the starting lineup. Gafford, who played 23 minutes in Sacramento, should take on a similar role if Davis remains out.

Davis was listed as questionable with right adductor soreness originally. The 32-year-old power forward will miss Saturday’s game against the Kings, his 17th missed game of the season. Max Christie is a candidate to replace Davis in the starting lineup.

Charania’s report indicates Dallas is taking a cautious approach, so the injury may not be severe, but they will continue to evaluate him daily. Max Christie started the second half of Thursday’s game in place of Davis, but that was likely a matchup-based decision. Daniel Gafford should start in his place, with Moussa Cisse and Dwight Powell filling out the reserve minutes. Plenty of usage will be up for grabs, but Cooper Flagg will continue to be the priority.

Davis pulled up lame during the second quarter and was substituted immediately. According to the Mavericks, he has been diagnosed with right groin spasms and will not return. Max Christie replaced Davis in the lineup to begin the third quarter, and Dallas will run a Cooper Flagg-heavy offense as they look to come back.

It used to be unheard of for AD to play back-to-backs, but this was the third time this season that he did. He played 35 and 36 minutes and had at least 30 points in both. His scoring has been slightly down this season, but more performances like this will help regulate that mark. Availability has been an issue once again this year, but when he plays, he continues to be one of the best players in fantasy basketball.

After scoring two points in a December 5 loss to the Thunder, Davis has tallied at least 24 in four of his last five appearances. Monday’s performance was the best of the bunch, with the Mavericks forward/center recording a season-high point total and extending his double-double streak to four games. With Daniel Gafford (three points, five rebounds and two steals in 14 minutes) still limited, all of Davis’ minutes were played at the five on Monday. That’s been the norm recently, and the center position may be where AD is most valuable to fantasy managers, even if he prefers to play the four.

Davis played 37 minutes in the overtime win over the Pistons on Thursday, but only had 15 points on 18 attempts. The 32-year-old power forward bounced back with a better offensive effort Saturday. Davis had 24 points on 11-of-20 from the field. The Mavericks have four games in Week 10, starting with a matchup with the Pelicans on Monday.

AD is under the weather, but it isn’t expected to keep him out of the lineup. Davis will look to extend his double-double streak to three games despite the illness. If something changes, Daniel Gafford will likely get the start in his stead.

Davis was initially questionable with a calf injury after missing Monday’s loss to the Jazz. The 32-year-old power forward ended up playing 37 minutes in the overtime win over the Pistons. Davis continues to be in and out of the lineup with injuries, but he was able to showcase his skills against one of the contending teams that might be interested in trading for him against the Pistons Thursday. Dallas will be back in action on Saturday against the 76ers.

Davis was initially questionable for Thursday’s game after sitting out Monday’s overtime loss to the Jazz. His return likely means that Daniel Gafford will head to the bench, and he’s unlikely to surpass 17 minutes due to a lingering ankle injury.

Davis logged a full practice on Wednesday and has a chance to return to the lineup after missing Monday’s game against the Jazz. Daniel Gafford played 13 minutes as a starter in place of Davis in that game and would likely return to playing a reserve role if Davis returns.

Davis had returned from the calf injury toward the end of November and played in five consecutive games before being ruled out for Monday’s contest. The veteran forward has struggled with injuries for the last several years and has only been available for 11 games during his first full season with the Mavericks. Yet, he’s averaged 20.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and 1.4 steals so far — his two-way production will be missed as Dallas tries to earn its sixth win in the last seven games.

Davis has a left calf contusion, casting some doubt on his availability for Monday’s game. With Daniel Gafford also questionable and Dereck Lively II done for the season, the worst-case scenario for the Mavericks would be having to rely on Dwight Powell and Moussa Cissé as their only options at the center position.

After a subpar first half in which he tallied four points, three rebounds and three assists, Davis flipped the switch. The Mavericks forward/center accounted for 20 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots in the second half, and the final stat line may lead some to believe that Davis was steady throughout. With Dereck Lively II done for the season and Daniel Gafford limited by an ankle injury, Davis will have to serve as the Mavericks’ anchor in the middle. And when he’s up for it, the veteran post is still one of the best in the NBA. Dallas does not play again until Monday against the Jazz.
