The Nets used all five of their first-round picks in June’s draft, but Saraf is the only rookie to have cracked the starting five for opening night. He outplayed Nolan Traoré during the preseason and Egor Dëmin was out due to injury, so Wednesday’s lineup is unsurprising. Dëmin will be on a minutes restriction, but he will play. The other four starters were expected, with Mann and Porter making their official Nets debuts.

Nets head coach Jordi Fernandez stuck with the same point guard rotation for the team’s second game in China, starting Nolan Traoré with Saraf coming off the bench. And once again, the latter was more effective and played more minutes. Traoré played 17 minutes, finishing with four points (2-of-5 FGs), two rebounds, three assists and four turnovers. It’s difficult to truly gauge the Nets’ point guard competition with Egor Dëmin (foot) unavailable, making it difficult to fully trust any of the three rookies with a draft pick in redraft leagues. However, Saraf may be more worthy of a roll of the dice based on how he played in China compared to Traoré.

Saraf was selected with the 26th pick in the draft in June, and he got the starting nod in his first preseason game for the Nets with fellow rookie guard Egor Demin sidelined. He dealt with foul trouble in the first half, committing five of them in 11 minutes. He should get more opportunities throughout the year, but it’s difficult to imagine him making enough of a contribution to be rostered in standard leagues.

It’s the first preseason matchup for Brooklyn, and rookie Egor Demin isn’t playing, but Saraf will get the starting nod at point guard, with Mann and MPJ also joining the opening group in their Nets debuts. Demin will likely get the starting nod when he’s healthy, but the other four have a good chance to be part of the starting lineup on opening night.

It wasn’t a flawless performance, but with both Egor Demin and Danny Wolf sitting out, it was a good opportunity to get a closer look at Saraf, and he was able to contribute decent value. The Nets will play again on Wednesday, so if Saraf doesn’t sit, he will likely be pushed back to the bench with Demin and Wolf sidelined.

Of Brooklyn’s four 2025 first-round picks who were healthy enough to play on Thursday, only Saraf came off the bench. Given the nature of summer league play, nothing should be considered locked in for the team’s games moving forward. Saraf still played 18 minutes on Thursday, and he’ll have more opportunities to show what he can do. The production wasn’t there against Oklahoma City, but no one should read too much into that.

A 6’6, 201-pound guard, Saraf began his professional career in Israel before joining German team Ratiopharm Ulm. He found success in Europe, earning MVP honors in the U18 EuroBasket Tournament. Saraf just turned 19, and the young international prospect has a ton of raw potential. His size gives him the physical traits to play either guard position. He may be best suited to play point guard given his strong playmaking abilities, but he can use his big body to score effectively as a two guard.
