Goodwin appeared in 29 games including five starts for the Lakers last year. The 26-year-old point guard was waived days ago as the Lakers cleared space for Marcus Smart. Now he’s on his way back to the Suns, where he spent part of the 2023-24 season. Goodwin can provide some defense for the Suns as he’s averaged 1.2 steals per game over his last 46 games.

Signed to a two-way contract by the Lakers after the February trade deadline, Goodwin played well enough to be converted to a standard deal in late March. While his contract for the 2025-26 season is worth $2.3 million, it is only lightly guaranteed. Goodwin’s deal becomes fully guaranteed on January 10, 2026, if he’s still on the roster. He did have his moments as a streamer last season, but Goodwin is not a player likely to be drafted in most fantasy leagues.

Goodwin is dealing with plantar fasciitis in his right foot, but the probable tag suggests he will play on Sunday. Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves and LeBron James are all out, so Goodwin should play plenty if available. He would be worth slotting into lineups in active leagues.

While this transaction does not impact fantasy basketball, as Goodwin was already in the Lakers’ rotation, it does affect the NBA Playoffs. Two-way contract players are not eligible for the postseason, so addressing Goodwin’s status means he will be available. However, with 15 players already under standard contracts, the Lakers must waive someone to free up a spot for Goodwin.

Goodwin has started the Lakers’ last four games, filling the void left by LeBron James (groin). While he has reached double figures on three occasions, he has been most valuable in the defensive categories. Averaging 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game, Goodwin has offered fifth-round value in nine-cat formats in his four starts. Goodwin is only rostered in one percent of Yahoo! leagues and is worthy of consideration among managers seeking defensive production.

Rostered in one percent of Yahoo! leagues, Goodwin has been one of the most productive Lakers fantasy-wise since LeBron James injured his groin on March 8. Despite inconsistent scoring, the fourth-year guard has been a top-100 player in nine-cat formats over the last five games. A double-digit scorer in three of those five games, Goodwin scored two points in the other two. While the scoring output has been unpredictable, Goodwin has been effective enough as a defender to be worth a look in extremely deep leagues while LeBron sits.

Goodwin was one of the replacements in the Lakers’ starting lineup Friday night. While the scoring wasn’t there, he provided solid value in his 34 minutes. Like Jarred Vanderbilt (9/7/7/3 with one three-pointer in 24 minutes), Goodwin is a deep-league dart throw for fantasy managers left to go deep into the waiver wire for additional depth. With Luka Doncic potentially returning on Sunday, there’s no need to add Goodwin or Vanderbilt for the Lakers’ final Week 19 game against the Suns.

Goodwin is back after missing three games with a sprained ankle. While Austin Reaves’ availability limits his upside, Goodwin may pick up minutes on the back end of the Lakers’ rotation. However, this is not enough to impact fantasy basketball.

Initially questionable for Thursday’s game, Goodwin is now out. He’ll miss a third straight game, but the Lakers may welcome back Austin Reaves. Goodwin’s absence will not impact fantasy basketball, especially if Reaves (listed probable) is available.

Goodwin has missed the Lakers’ last two games with a sprained right ankle. While he may be in the rotation if allowed to play, Austin Reaves is on track to return from his calf injury. There’s no need to roster Goodwin in most fantasy leagues.

Tuesday’s game will be the second straight Goodwin has missed with a sprained right ankle. Shake Milton played eight minutes off the bench in Sunday’s win over the Clippers, but the Lakers were also without Austin Reaves. Milton will likely fall out of the rotation if Reaves can return from his calf injury.

Having been signed to a two-way deal on February 7, Goodwin played 21 minutes off the bench Friday night. Shooting 3-of-7 from the field, he finished with six points, five rebounds, two assists and three steals. While the production hasn’t exactly translated to fantasy basketball, Goodwin has done enough to earn Redick’s trust. He’s only appeared in seven games, so the 50-game limit won’t be an issue for the regular season. However, the Lakers must convert him to a standard deal at some point to ensure Goodwin is eligible for the postseason.
