Garza is available after sitting out Friday’s loss to the Knicks. His return could result in fewer minutes for Chris Boucher or Xavier Tillman Sr., but none are worth the risk in fantasy leagues until one sets himself apart from the pack.

Initially listed as questionable on the Celtics’ injury report, Garza was injured during Wednesday’s season-opening loss to the 76ers. The status upgrade suggests he will only miss one game, giving the Celtics another option in the post. Garza should get rotation minutes if he’s cleared, but there isn’t enough upside to justify rostering him on a nine-game Sunday.

Coach Joe Mazzulla said on Friday that there wasn’t a timetable for Garza to return. Well, the next day, he’s questionable. Even if he isn’t back to play against Detroit, it shouldn’t be much longer. He’ll fill out some of the reserve center minutes for Boston.

Garza played six minutes in the first half on Wednesday before exiting with a concussion, and now he’s expected to miss multiple games. Concussions shouldn’t lead to a multi-week absence, but until Garza is back, Neemias Queta, Chris Boucher and Xavier Tillman will occupy the center minutes. Garza will likely only take a few minutes away from the aforementioned trio when he returns.

Garza played six first-half minutes before exiting with an apparent head injury, going scoreless (0-of-2 FGs) with one rebound and one blocked shot. His absence will likely result in more minutes for Neemias Queta and Xavier Tillman Sr., with the former being part of the Celtics’ starting lineup.

After three seasons with the Timberwolves, Garza is headed to the Eastern Conference and will do so on a fully guaranteed contract. In 39 games last season, the 6-foot-10 center averaged 3.5 points and 1.4 rebounds in 5.6 minutes. While he did not have much of a role in Minnesota, that may change for Garza in Boston. The Celtics lost Kristaps Porzingis (Atlanta) via trade, Luke Kornet (San Antonio) in free agency and Al Horford could also leave as a free agent. Garza should not be on draft radars, but that could change if the Celtics move one of their remaining stars this offseason.

Initially questionable with a sprained left ankle, Garza is available to play. However, with Rudy Gobert (back) also available, Luka is unlikely to be in the Timberwolves’ rotation.
