After scoring five points and making one three-pointer in the first half, Hield knocked down four triples in the third and fourth quarters to help the Warriors gain control of the season opener. He didn’t provide much value beyond points and three-pointers, but that’s the expectation for Hield, especially in his current role. Category league managers needing triples can consider rostering Buddy Buckets if he’s sitting on the waiver wire, but his fantasy ceiling is limited.

Hield was in better form Wednesday night after shooting 1-of-4 from three in Golden State’s preseason opener on Sunday. The veteran guard came off the bench to shoot 3-of-6 from beyond the arc against the Trail Blazers, finishing as one of three Warriors reserves in double figures (Quinten Post and LJ Cryer were the others). Regarding fantasy value, Hield is in a difficult spot due to his status as a reserve. While he’ll undoubtedly play rotation minutes, his value depends on whether he can get hot from deep.

Hield moved into the Warriors’ starting lineup in the first round and the team became somewhat reliant on his scoring. With Stephen Curry (hamstring) out in Game 2, Hield started and played 29 minutes. The 32-year-old shooting guard led the Warriors in field goal attempts, though no one in a Golden State uniform was able to reach 20 points. The Warriors weren’t able to overcome a double-digit first half deficit. Despite the four made three-pointers, they’re going to need more from Hield as the series shifts to Golden State, especially if Curry remains out.

Hield continues to show up in these playoffs. The star of Game 7 in the first round, Hield was once again counted on for increased scoring with Stephen Curry out for the entire second half with a hamstring injury. Hield’s added importance in these playoffs figures to continue, especially if Curry is unable to make it back for Game 2.

Before Sunday’s Game 7, few likely expected Hield to be the Warriors’ leading scorer. After scoring 32 points in Games 3 and 4, he totaled four points on 2-of-10 shooting in the two losses that forced a decisive seventh game. To say Hield redeemed himself would be an understatement; he established a playoff career-high with nine three-pointers and shot 80 percent from the field. While the Warriors won’t expect performances of this caliber in the second round, they’ll need a consistent Hield to knock off the Timberwolves. Game 1 is on Tuesday.

Jimmy Butler’s return from a one-game absence also allowed Hield to enter the starting lineup after scoring 17 points in Game 3. He really struggled in Games 1 and 2, but he was able to build on his performance from Saturday in Monday’s win. Hield is a streaky shooter, but he has been on recently and hit eight triples across Golden State’s two home games. He’ll look to carry this shooting with him to Houston for Game 5 on Wednesday.

With Butler back, Jonathan Kuminga will be pushed out of the starting lineup and could certainly end up being out of the rotation entirely. Hield will replace Quinten Post in the starting unit after playing well in Game 3.

After providing minimal value in the first two games of the series, Hield came to life in Game 3. Jimmy Butler’s absence meant more playing time, and the veteran guard was up to the task. Hield was one of two Warriors to make five three-pointers on the night, with Stephen Curry being the other. His production off the bench helped compensate for spot starter Jonathan Kuminga, who recorded a 7/1/2 line in 17 minutes, providing limited offensive value as Butler’s replacement. Kuminga was excellent defensively, helping limit Jalen Green. Game 4 is on Monday, with the Warriors holding a 2-1 series lead.

Hield isn’t going to surprise anyone at this point of his career. The 32-year-old shooting guard only played 23 minutes, but he took as many shots as anyone on the Warriors with 14 attempts. Hield made four three-pointers on his way to 16 points and didn’t provide much in the other categories. His role isn’t going to expand next year, but he can still fit the right fantasy team builds as largely a three-point specialist.

With Stephen Curry having a historically poor night, Hield was one of the Warriors who attempted to shoulder some of the workload. The 20 points were the most he’s scored in a game since March 10, when he hit that number in a win over the Trail Blazers. Hield remained a player rostered in deep leagues, but his value has taken a significant hit from the All-Star break onward. Sunday’s performance was a welcomed one for those who kept the faith.

Despite Brandin Podziemski returning from a back injury on Tuesday, Hield still had room to provide value since Stephen Curry was out. He hit four three-pointers, the third time in five games Hield has made that many or more. Ranked outside the top 175 in eight-cat formats since the All-Star break, Buddy is essentially a specialist in category leagues. He’s still rostered in 30 percent of Yahoo! leagues, which is a fair number given the limited production outside of points and three-pointers.

Hield came off the bench as usual Monday, but with Brandin Podziemski (back) out he was more involved in the offense than usual. The 32-year-old shooting guard had 20 points including six 3-pointers, but also dished out a season-high seven assists. Hield’s last game with more than five assists was back in November, making this an outlier we’re unlikely to see again soon.

To say Hield needed a night like Monday would be accurate. In the two games prior, he scored nine points on 4-of-14 shooting and has been inconsistent since the All-Star break. Monday’s performance is a step in the right direction, but coming off the bench does limit Hield’s fantasy upside. Rostered in 29 percent of Yahoo! leagues, he has provided 12th-round value in eight-cat formats since the All-Star break.

The game against the Hornets got out of hand fast and most of the Warriors’ key players played 20 minutes or less. This impacted Hield less than most. He was able to have a good game as he poured in 16 points and four three-pointers in only 20 minutes. Hield’s fantasy value is limited coming off the bench, but he’s a reliable scorer and three-point specialist.
