After spending his first three NBA seasons in Orlando, Houstan is on an Exhibit 10 contract with the Hawks. That status is what makes opportunities like Monday’s so important, as the Hawks did not play their regulars against the Heat. Known primarily for his perimeter shooting ability when entering the NBA, Houstan shot 5-of-8 from three, including a triple with 13 seconds remaining in overtime to give Atlanta a one-point lead. And his rejection of a Keshad Johnson shot in the final seconds preserved the Hawks’ lead. There’s no need to consider Houstan in fantasy drafts, as he isn’t guaranteed to be on the opening night roster, but he may have helped his case on Monday.

Houstan has made at least four three-pointers in four games this season, and he matched his previous high on Saturday with six. Also, he managed to provide some value in the rebound and assist categories. However, Saturday’s performance is insufficient to make Houstan a player worth targeting. He’s been an inconsistent shooter, and the limited production outside of points and triples makes him a difficult player to trust in most fantasy leagues.

Houstan’s 18 points were a season-high; this was his third game in double figures. While he wasn’t Kentavious Caldwell-Pope’s replacement in the starting lineup, the veteran’s absence freed up additional opportunities for Houstan, and he took advantage. This performance isn’t enough to put him on the radar in fantasy leagues, but it was encouraging nonetheless.
