Holmgren, who last missed a game on December 22, will not play on Friday due to soreness in both shins. With Isaiah Hartenstein also out, Branden Carlson may be the next man up. He started that December 22 win over the Grizzlies, finishing with 11 points, three rebounds, two assists and three three-pointers in 25 minutes. While the fantasy upside is limited, Carlson is worth a look in deep leagues due to Oklahoma City’s depleted frontcourt.

Holmgren delivered his best performance of the calendar year, putting on a two-way clinic to help end the Thunder’s two-game skid. In his season-high 40 minutes of game action, Holmgren led his team in blocks, was the only OKC player to collect double-digit rebounds, and finished as one of two to score at least 20 points. Struggles from the free-throw line and from beyond the arc prevented him from finishing with greater scoring totals. Still, he had an impactful night and should be in line for another good outing on Friday against the Grizzlies.

As Shai Gilgeous-Alexander said during his interview after Friday’s 37-point win, the Thunder are a different team when Holmgren is at his best defensively. And fantasy managers benefit as well. With Isaiah Hartenstein (calf) out, Oklahoma City needs more from Holmgren, and he answered the call on Friday. He’s recorded four double-doubles in his last five outings and totaled 16 blocks over his previous four. Over the past two weeks, Holmgren has provided top-20 per-game value in eight-cat formats.

In a December full of near-double-doubles, Holmgren was able to collect his second game of at least 10 points and 10 rebounds on Wednesday — he needed just 25 minutes to achieve the feat. Yet, what the former Gonzaga Bulldog did defensively was perhaps even more impressive, tallying eight stocks and setting a new season-high in blocked shots in the process. A blowout win prevented him from doing more damage, but he still finished with a productive night from a fantasy basketball standpoint.

Holmgren recorded his second consecutive 20-point effort, falling one rebound shy of a double-double. The 23-year-old center is well positioned to take advantage of favorable matchups against the Trail Blazers, Warriors and Suns over the rest of the week — three teams that lack a true, high-end rim-protecting presence.

Holmgren took full advantage of Philadelphia’s lack of premium frontcourt defenders with Joel Embiid sidelined due to knee and ankle issues. The 23-year-old dominated defensively and finished one rebound shy of a double-double in an impressive all-around effort where he drained 10-of-13 shots from inside three-point range. It was a much-needed bounce-back performance after being limited to just 17 points combined over his previous two games against the Spurs. Oklahoma City snaps a two-game losing streak and will complete a back-to-back on Monday against the Hawks before facing the Trail Blazers, Warriors and Suns to close out a four-game week.

Holmgren’s two games against the Spurs this week were a struggle. In the defeats, he totaled 17 points, 15 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and one three-pointer. While the Thunder certainly have the depth to compensate for the occasional off night, the matchup with San Antonio has proven to be one in which the champs need all hands on deck (the Spurs are 3-0 against OKC this season). Holmgren will look to bounce back on Sunday against the 76ers, but that’s the first game of a back-to-back. Hopefully, he can play both contests.

Holmgren and Hartenstein are back after sitting out Monday’s win over the Grizzlies. Their returns mean that Cason Wallace and Branden Carlson head to the bench. While Wallace will remain in the rotation, there’s a high likelihood that Carlson will not.

Holmgren will return after sitting out the first leg of Oklahoma City’s back-to-back set. He’s expected to handle his usual workload, so fantasy managers should get him back into lineups.

Holmgren will join Isaiah Hartenstein and Jaylin Williams on the sideline, which should lead to additional playing time for Branden Carlson. Oklahoma City could opt to go small, with Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace handling additional responsibilities.

Holmgren is dealing with lower back spasms and is not guaranteed to be available for Monday’s game. The Thunder are also in action Tuesday, so the 7-foot-1 forward/center may have been ruled out for one of the next two, even if he were healthy. With Isaiah Hartenstein and Jaylin Williams already out, Branden Carlson may pick up rotation minutes on Monday.

After shining in Thursday’s rout of the Clippers, Holmgren was comparatively quiet on Friday. If there has been an issue for the 7-foot-1 forward/center over the last week, it has been the limited production in assists and steals. He’s averaged 0.7 assists and 0.3 steals over the past week, and Holmgren’s blocks average for the season is also down compared to his first two seasons. He remains a top-50 player for the season, but Holmgren has more to give.

Oklahoma City’s “big three” of Holmgren, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams all scored at least 20 points in Thursday’s victory. Holmgren has scored at least 20 points in four of his last six appearances, providing third-round value in nine-cat formats over the past two weeks. Chet did play both games of Oklahoma City’s most recent back-to-back in mid-November; hopefully, that bodes well for his availability for Friday’s game against the Timberwolves.

Holmgren didn’t have the best night shooting the basketball, but the foul line helped boost the final point total. Having to deal with Victor Wembanyama for portions of Saturday’s game didn’t help, but there’s no need for fantasy managers to have any concern about Holmgren. He’s still providing excellent value in eight- and nine-cat formats, proving to be slightly more valuable in the latter. The Thunder play twice in Week 9, starting with the Clippers on Thursday.

Holmgren had his second game this season with at least four three-pointers, after making six three-pointers against the Hawks on October 25. The 23-year-old center has recorded at least eight rebounds in eight consecutive games as well. Holmgren also had at least 24 points in 25 minutes or less for the second consecutive game. He’s one of a few players on the Thunder that might have better numbers if the team didn’t have so many blowouts.

With Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (elbow) getting the night off, Holmgren was one of the players Oklahoma City relied on for added production on Sunday. However, with the Thunder blowing Utah’s doors off, he only played 23 minutes. Given Holmgren’s final line, there are undoubtedly some fantasy managers wondering what he could have done against a more formidable opponent. Next up for Oklahoma City is an NBA Cup quarterfinal against the Suns on Wednesday.

Holmgren made the most of his 23 minutes on Friday, tying a team-high in rebounds and finishing as one of OKC’s top-three scorers on the evening. He played his role well on both ends of the floor, with another blowout victory not requiring much individual production from the former Gonzaga Bulldog. Holmgren has scored at least 15 points in four straight games and flirted with a double-double in each — he’ll have a chance to earn one on Sunday against the Jazz.

Oklahoma City’s win streak hit 13 games on Tuesday, and Holmgren has seven 20-point games during the run. On Tuesday, he shot 66.7 percent from the field and was a steal shy of a complete stat line. Over the past month, he has provided sixth-round value in nine-cat formats. That doesn’t align with Holmgren’s Yahoo! ADP (26), but it’s not like he’s been a disappointment in fantasy basketball. Plus, the skill set is such that he’s capable of going on a run that would get his value closer to preseason expectations.

Portland played this game without Donovan Clingan (illness), and they didn’t replace him with a traditional center. That made Holmgren the biggest player in either starting lineup, but he wasn’t able to truly dominate the glass. He led Oklahoma City in rebounding, and each team finished with exactly 49 boards, but this was an opportunity for Holmgren to have a big rebounding night. Still, he was able to turn in a full stat line. With Isaiah Hartenstein sidelined for at least a few games, Holmgren will need to control the glass.

Holmgren had mostly a quiet game until a massive three-pointer with 37.7 seconds remaining put him into double figures and gave OKC a comfortable four-point lead down the stretch. The former Gonzaga Bulldog was impactful in other areas as well — he led the Thunder in rebounding, was the only member of the team to record multiple threes, and chipped in on the defensive end with a pair of stocks. Despite his lower scoring total on Wednesday, Holmgren entered Wednesday’s contest averaging a career-high in points. He continues to shine in his third NBA season.

Holmgren had at least 20 points for the third game in a row. The 23-year-old center was 1-of-5 from behind the three-point line, which means he was 9-of-10 on two-point field goals. Holmgren has played at least 30 minutes in three consecutive games after 20 and 25 minutes in the two games before that stretch. He could see his minutes reduced due to a blowout against the Jazz on Friday.

Holmgren had at least 25 points for the second consecutive games and fourth time in his last five games. The 23-year-old center was excellent, shooting 10-of-14 from the field and making three three-pointers. Holmgren’s biggest threat to his fantasy value is lack of minutes from getting pulled early in blowout wins.

Holmgren started the season on a scoring tear, but he hasn’t been able to pour in the points as much lately, mostly due to lopsided scores. This was the third time he’s reached 25 points this season, with the other two coming during the first three games of the year. His 20 shot attempts were also a season-best. The main limitation for Holmgren this season has been the amount of blowout wins, but he’s been really good in his minutes. This game was close enough that he was able to play 32 minutes, which is the most he’s played in a game this month.

Holmgren was perfect on nine shots from the field, including a pair of three-pointers, and also knocked down three free throw attempts as the defending champions absolutely demolished the Warriors, improving to 5-0 at home this season. He was able to rest for the entire fourth quarter during the lopsided affair and should be a full-go for Wednesday night’s showdown against the Lakers on the second night of a back-to-back.

Holmgren has scored 20 points or more in just three games this season, including Sunday’s win in Memphis. The good news for fantasy managers is that his value isn’t derived solely from scoring. He recorded another solid stat line against the Grizzlies and is providing top-25 value in nine-cat formats. The Thunder have three games on the Week 4 schedule, and fantasy managers will need to account for Holmgren potentially missing a game due to the Tuesday/Wednesday back-to-back.

With Wednesday’s game being the second in as many nights for the Thunder, Holmgren’s sitting is unsurprising. Jaylin Williams, who suffered a cut over his left eye that required three stitches during Tuesday’s win over the Clippers, is available. He’ll likely move into the starting lineup and is worth streaming in deep leagues.

Holmgren, who missed three games with a sprained lower back, played a team-high 30 minutes on Tuesday. While the stat line was modest, he did record three blocked shots. The lingering question is whether he’ll be available for Wednesday’s game in Portland. If Holmgren gets the night off, Aaron Wiggins (12/2/2 with two three-pointers in 26 minutes) may be back in the starting lineup.
