Johnson suffered a left hip flexor injury during Tuesday’s win over the Wizards, exiting after playing six minutes. Jonathan Kuminga picked up additional minutes in his first appearance as a Hawk and was outstanding, scoring 27 points. Zaccharie Risacher and Mouhamed Gueye would also pick up minutes if Johnson sits, but Kuminga offers the highest fantasy upside.

Johnson only played six minutes before his exit, which will open up plenty of minutes for the reserves. Jonathan Kuminga, who is making his debut for the team, should see a nice bump in minutes, while Zaccharie Risacher and Mouhamed Gueye could play larger roles as well.

The Hawks trailed 104-97 with five minutes left in regulation before leading a furious comeback to win 115-104. Down the stretch, Johnson either scored or had an assist on all but two of the Hawks’ last 18 points. The 24-year-old small forward has provided 15th-overall per game value this season. The Hawks have three games upcoming in Week 18, starting with a matchup against the Wizards on Tuesday.

While Johnson finished Friday’s defeat with his 11th triple-double of the season, the efficiency was lacking. He kept the turnovers in check, but the 6-of-22 night from the field was one of the worst this season for the Hawks’ All-Star forward. The good news for Johnson managers is that Atlanta has another game to play in Week 17, at home against the struggling Nets on Sunday.

Johnson continues to absolutely carry the Hawks and fantasy teams alike. Over his last six games, the 24-year-old small forward is averaging 27.7 points, 11.7 rebounds, 9.7 assists and 2.2 steals. Johnson is once again filling up stat sheets with his varied skillset. He’s provided 14th-overall per game value this season, according to Basketball Monster. The Hawks face the Heat on Friday on the second night of a back-to-back.

Johnson did a bit of everything in his return to the lineup after missing Monday’s game with a knee issue. He fell one assist shy of a triple-double, but he was still able to fill up the box score. Over his last five games, Johnson has averaged 26.8 points, 12.0 rebounds, 10.6 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.8 triples per game. His breakout season has resulted in his first All-Star appearance, and he’ll look to stay hot after the break.

Johnson did not play in Monday’s loss to the Timberwolves, with rookie Asa Newell replacing him in the starting lineup. Newell played 25 minutes, finishing with four points and four rebounds. If Johnson remains out, there would not be much to gain from streaming Newell in redraft leagues.

Johnson played 33 minutes in Wednesday night’s game against the Celtics and didn’t seem to suffer an injury, so this could be generic wear and tear. That being said, missing Johnson, who has emerged as a legit star this season, would be a big loss for the Hawks. Corey Kispert and Luke Kennard would likely see more minutes, with Nickiel Alexander-Walker and Dyson Daniels getting an uptick in usage.

He hasn’t been as strong in the other categories, but he has been a beast in points, rebounds and assists. He matched his career high for boards in this game, which he has now set three times this season. He’ll look to keep his dominance on the glass up against the Pacers on Monday.

Johnson wasn’t among the ten players named starters for next month’s All-Star Game, but there’s little doubt that he should be making the trip. The Hawks’ forward recorded another stellar stat line on Wednesday, finishing two assists shy of a triple-double. After taking one significant leap last season, Johnson has taken another, and that likely factored into the Hawks’ decision to trade Trae Young. Johnson has been a fantasy cornerstone this season, and that should be the case for future seasons as well.

Johnson produced another excellent stat line, finishing with his 28th double-double of the season. At this time last season, which is about when a shoulder injury sidelined him for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign, the Hawks forward had 20 double-doubles. Included in Monday’s stat line were 16 rebounds, two shy of his season and career-high. Look for Johnson to continue to flourish, and it would be unsurprising if he were named an All-Star reserve later this month.

Johnson followed a rough game against the Lakers with another unspectacular performance against the Trail Blazers. He scored his fewest points in over a month and was limited to fewer than 10 field-goal attempts. The number that best paints the picture of his night, however, is six, which represents the turnovers Johnson committed on Thursday. He’ll have a chance to get back on track on Saturday when the Hawks return home to face the Celtics.

Johnson’s meteoric rise continues as he steps into an expanded role for the Hawks from a facilitating and scoring standpoint with Trae Young no longer in the picture following his trade to Washington earlier this week. He’s eclipsed 20 points in seven of his last nine games since December 18. After recording a double-double in seven straight appearances, Johnson posted his first triple-double since December 14, which was part of a streak of four consecutive triple-doubles. While the Hawks forward has been elite all season long, it’s no secret that his fantasy ceiling is raised when Trae Young (quad) is unavailable. Not only should Johnson be mentioned among the leading candidates for Most Improved Player, but he has also played well enough to deserve a trip to the All-Star Game.
