The 12-week timeframe puts the next significant JJJ update no earlier than September 24, which means he may be ready for the start of the regular season. If Jackson Jr. is forced to miss time into October, Santi Aldama could see a major boost in usage and fantasy value. Zach Edey (ankle) is already set to miss the beginning of the season, leaving Memphis’ frontcourt rotation potentially thin to kick off the 2025-26 campaign.

The Grizzlies announced on Tuesday that Jackson — who agreed earlier this week to a five-year, $240 million extension — injured his toe during a live basketball run on Monday. The team also announced that he’ll need to undergo a procedure to address the issue, but no information was provided regarding the severity of the injury. While Jackson is expected to make a full recovery, a timeline for return will not be announced until after the procedure. He’s the second rotation big to require a procedure this summer, with Zach Edey expected to miss at least four months after undergoing left ankle surgery. If Edey or Jackson is not ready to begin the regular season, Santi Aldama’s fantasy ceiling will be raised.

The deal includes a player option in the final year of the deal in 2029-30, according to Charania. The Grizzlies have chosen to prioritize keeping Jackson this offseason as moving Desmond Bane to the Magic helped the club afford the massive new deal for the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year. Memphis wasted no time in locking up the franchise cornerstone with a new deal right as free agency opened up.

In his final game of the 2024-25 season, Jackson went out with a relative whimper as Oklahoma City swept the Grizzlies. He missed both of his three-point attempts and shot 25 percent from the field overall, failing to help pick up the slack with Ja Morant (hip) sidelined. Jackson is extension eligible this season, and the most Memphis will be allowed to pay him depends on whether or not JJJ makes an All-NBA team. Even with Saturday’s poor performance, Trip appears to be a valued member of the Grizzlies’ core going forward.

After a brutal performance in Sunday’s series opener, Jackson has shown up offensively in the two games since. However, it hasn’t been enough to secure a win for the Grizzlies, and the team will be staring down elimination on Saturday. And with Ja Morant (hip) potentially missing Game 4, even more production will be needed from Jackson on both ends of the floor. Through three games, Jackson has recorded two steals and one blocked shot. While those categories aren’t the only way to measure a player’s defensive impact, JJJ averaged 1.2 steals and 1.5 blocks per game during the regular season.

Jackson Jr. rebounded nicely from a low-scoring Game 1 in which he totaled just four points. The two-time NBA All-Star led the Grizzlies in scoring on Tuesday, with his total exceeding more than his regular-season average of 22.2 points per game. However, in a rare occurrence, the former NBA Defensive Player of the Year did not record any blocks or steals in the Game 2 loss. Memphis would benefit from a repeat performance from Jackson Jr. on Thursday as it looks to earn its first win of the series when taking the floor at FedExForum in Memphis for Game 3.

There’s no sugar-coating Jackson’s performance in Memphis’s 51-point loss: he was abysmal in Oklahoma City. This effort was surprising, as JJJ averaged 19.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 0.7 steals, 1.0 blocks and 2.3 three-pointers in three regular-season meetings with the Thunder. It doesn’t need to be said that Jackson must be better. If “Trip” plays at the level he did on Sunday, this series will likely be a short one. Game 2 is on Tuesday.

JJJ had a better night offensively on Friday than he did in Tuesday’s loss to the Warriors, which helped propel Memphis back to the postseason. He was joined by Ja Morant and Desmond Bane, who each scored 22 points, as the main producers of offensive for the Grizzlies, though they had six players score in double figures. Jackson Jr. had four triples in each of their play-in games, and if he continues to knock down shots at that rate during their series against the Thunder, they’ll certainly have a chance to make some noise.

Interestingly, the one area in which Jackson struggled against the Warriors during the regular season was a position of strength on Tuesday. After shooting 3-of-18 from deep in four meetings, he was 4-of-9 on Tuesday. The issue was Jackson shooting 2-of-6 from two, a far cry from the 54.1 percent clip he shot during the regular season. Jackson will look to rebound on Friday when the Grizzlies host Dallas or Sacramento. The winner of Friday’s game will be the eighth seed in the West.

The Grizzlies are resting most of their key players, including Jackson and Edey. Depending on Sunday’s results, Memphis will be either the seventh or eighth seed in the West. Jay Huff and GG Jackson will log significant minutes on Sunday due to the many absences, and both are worth slotting into lineups in active deep leagues.

Friday’s loss to the Nuggets relegated the Grizzlies to the play-in tournament; depending on Sunday’s results, they’ll be the seventh or eighth seed. Most of the team’s key rotation players, including Jackson and Aldama, are doubtful for Sunday. Marvin Bagley III and GG Jackson are among those who should experience an increase in playing time, especially if the Grizzlies’ key frontcourt players don’t play.

The Grizzlies played Saturday’s game without Ja Morant, who was a late scratch due to illness. Jackson took on more of the offensive workload, and while the field-goal percentage wasn’t great, the overall stat line was solid. The double-double was Jackson’s second in four games and sixth of the season, and the rebound category is where fantasy managers will want to see more production in 2025-26. Unless Jackson goes on an absolute tear next week, he’ll average fewer than six rebounds per game for the second straight season. If there is improvement in that category, Trip will likely boast a higher fantasy floor than he currently does.

Jackson exited with 1:55 remaining in the fourth quarter and the Grizzlies trailing by one, 123-122. Memphis would only score three more points the rest of the way, as no one could contribute with the Warriors taking away Ja Morant and Desmond Bane. Over the past two weeks, Jackson has provided fifth-round value in eight- and nine-cat formats, two rounds worse than his season-long production. One difference has been the field goal percentage, with Trip shooting 43.5 percent over the past two weeks. Fantasy managers hope he’ll clean that up during the Grizzlies’ final two games of Week 22.

The most notable flaw in Jackson Jr.'s game is his lack of rebounding production, but that wasn’t the case on Monday. Though it wasn’t enough to get the win, JJJ set a new career-high for rebounds, eclipsing his previous best mark of 13, which he has done twice over the last two seasons. It was a nice boost in Monday’s game, but it isn’t something that managers should grow accustomed to. Memphis still has three more games this week, including the second night of a back-to-back against the Warriors on Tuesday.

Jackson shot the ball well on Saturday, scoring 23 points or more in three of his last four games. However, the overall stat line was lacking, especially in the rebound department. He’s grabbed five rebounds or less in six straight games, which has factored into JJJ only being a top 75 player in nine-cat formats over the past two weeks. Sharing the court with Zach Edey doesn’t help, but fantasy managers are likely hoping for more rebound production from Jackson during Week 22.

Jackson had two blocks against the Thunder, giving him five over his last three games. The 25-year-old power forward led the Grizzlies offense with Ja Morant out and Desmond Bane struggling. Jackson was hardly efficient on his 21 shots, but he was good from behind the three-point line as he made 5-of-7 three-point attempts. Jackson has been a top-20 fantasy player since the All-Star break.

Jackson took an elbow to the face during Tuesday’s win over the Jazz but was able to return. His absence from the injury report means he’s good to go for Thursday’s matchup with the Thunder.

JJJ took an elbow to the face in the third quarter but returned to the Grizzlies’ bench in the fourth. He seems to have avoided a serious injury, but fantasy managers should keep an eye on his status for Thursday’s tilt with the Thunder just to be sure. He stuffed the stat sheet again, but that’s nothing new for the versatile stretch big.

The points were nice, but the rest of this outing was disappointing for Jackson Jr. and his team. He started at center against Ivica Zubac, but he was only able to grab two rebounds in 35 minutes. Jackson Jr. is known for being a weak rebounder, but he wasn’t able to offset the lack of production in that category with dominance in others; he only blocked one shot and had an inefficient shooting night. Unfortunately, this was the last game of the week for Memphis, and they only have three games next week.

Jackson was dominant on Saturday, having now scored 30 points or more on 12 occasions this season. That equals his tally from the 2023-24 campaign, a year in which JJJ was the lone Grizzlies star in the lineup on most nights. Jackson has been a top 20 player in nine-cat formats since the All-Star break, slightly better than his production for the season.

Jackson Jr. didn’t appear to be on a minutes limit as he saw 28 minutes in his return from an ankle injury against the Cavaliers. The 25-year-old power forward was a little rusty on the offensive end as he scored 13 points on 10 shots including three 3-pointers. Jackson Jr. was his usual active self on the defensive end as he had four steals and two blocks. Fantasy managers can expect the minutes and production to only go up from here.

Initially week-to-week after injuring his ankle on March 3, Jackson will play against the team with the NBA’s best record. Whether or not he’s under a minutes restriction has not been revealed by the Grizzlies, but fantasy managers should not expect Jackson to take on a full workload in his first game back. However, GG Jackson’s playing time will take a hit with Jaren back in action.

JJJ suffered a nasty ankle injury on March 3 and was immediately considered “week-to-week” because of it. However, he could be back in the lineup less than two weeks later. Even if he doesn’t play against Cleveland, he is inching closer to a return, which is a great sign for managers in the fantasy playoffs. GG Jackson will likely return to playing a bench role when JJJ returns.

Jackson Jr. has already been ruled out and is being considered “week-to-week.” It’s unclear when he’ll be back, but if he is already shooting and dribbling, it is a good sign that it may be sooner rather than later. Aldama is questionable for Friday’s game after missing the Grizzlies’ last two. If he remains out, Vince Williams Jr. and GG Jackson should be in line for more minutes. Williams Jr. started on Wednesday and contributed 12 points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal in 25 minutes.

Jackson suffered a Grade 2 left ankle sprain during the first quarter of Monday’s loss to the Hawks. While the Grizzlies have given him a week-to-week designation, this injury can require 4-to-6 weeks of recovery time. Fantasy managers who have Jackson rostered should stash him in an IL+ slot if possible. As for who can provide added fantasy value, Santi Aldama (when healthy) is the best target. He’s questionable for Wednesday’s game against the Thunder with a sore right calf.

Jackson was injured during the first quarter, landing awkwardly after attempting to block a shot. His left ankle injury will likely end JJJ’s night prematurely, which means more playing time for GG Jackson and Lamar Stevens. GG has a better chance of providing value if Jaren misses time, especially if Santi Aldama remains out.

With Ja Morant and Desmond Bane unavailable due to injury, everyone inside FedEx Forum knew the Grizzlies’ offense would run through Jackson. And the Spurs had no answer for him, as he shot 60 percent from the field and recorded his first 40-point game of the season (sixth of his career). Since the All-Star break, Jackson has provided top 25 per-game value in nine-cat formats, slightly better than his season-long production. He’ll look to build on Saturday’s performance when the Grizzlies begin a four-game Week 18 on Monday against the Hawks.
