While Martin will provide additional depth off the bench, Jones’s status impacts the Mavericks and fantasy basketball more. He has started alongside Anthony Davis and is worth rostering in deep leagues while Dallas awaits the return of Daniel Gafford (knee) and Dereck Lively II (ankle).

Jones fell hard on his back during Thursday’s game against the Magic and did not return. If he cannot play against the Bulls, the Mavericks will have to rely more on Dwight Powell and Kessler Edwards, even if Anthony Davis (groin) is available.

This will be a seventh-straight absence for Jones, which will leave Kessler Edwards and Kai Jones as the primary options down low for Dallas. Jones was fantastic in his debut for the Mavs, but he hasn’t played since, which makes him a difficult player to roster.

Jones will miss a sixth straight game with a quad injury, meaning the Mavericks will again go small in the middle. Kessler Edwards has been the starter most nights, and while he’ll be at a size disadvantage, he’s worth a look in deep leagues. Dwight Powell will also play rotation minutes at the five.

Kai Jones has missed the last five games for Dallas, but he could return to the lineup on Friday. He played well in his lone game for the Mavs this season, and he should be part of the rotation when he returns, which would cut into the minutes of Kessler Edwards and Dwight Powell.

Jones exploded for 21 points in 34 minutes off the bench in his first game as a Maverick. It’s unclear if he’ll yield the same results on Wednesday, but a blowout could help his chances.

Jones made his Mavs debut Monday and immediately made an impact. He led the team in scoring, rebounding, blocks and minutes on a night where Dallas’ starting five combined to score 23 points. With Kyrie Irving and Jaden Hardy added to the ever-growing injury list alongside nearly every big man in the rotation, Jones could see big minutes moving forward. He’s worth a look in deeper leagues.

Jones, the 19th overall pick in the 2021 draft, was recently waived by the Clippers to free up a standard contract slot for Jordan Miller. Per Haynes, the plan is for Jones to sign a two-way deal with the Mavericks after he clears waivers. This transaction won’t impact fantasy basketball, but there may be minutes available to Jones with Anthony Davis, Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively II out with injuries.
