After scoring 16 points in his debut, Johnson surpassed that mark by one point while also getting the first win of his young career. Johnson has proven that he is a high-level scorer early on in his career, and he’ll be an excellent source of points this season. He can still contribute in other categories, but the points will be there consistently. He’ll look to stay hot against the Hornets on Sunday.

The Wizards fell short in Wednesday’s season opener, but the play of reserves Johnson and Cam Whitmore in their respective debuts was encouraging. Johnson shot 4-of-8 from beyond the arc and recorded a complete stat line in 26 minutes. As for Whitmore, he contributed 14 points, five rebounds, one assist and one three-pointer in 19 minutes. Both players got good minutes off the bench, opening the door for them to provide solid deep-league value. And their prospects should only improve as the season rolls on.

After shooting 3-of-9 from the field in Washington’s preseason opener on Sunday, Johnson looked more comfortable on Monday. The rookie guard shot efficiently and took on some playmaking responsibilities, dishing out three assists without a turnover. With the guards currently on the Wizards’ roster, Johnson appears likely to begin the season with the second unit. However, with the franchise in the midst of a rebuild, he will play plenty. Johnson is worth the gamble in deep leagues, especially for those willing to exercise some patience. It would be unsurprising if Johnson figured more prominently in the rotation after the February trade deadline.

The electric scorer out of Texas went No. 6 to Washington, and these early reports indicate he’s endearing himself to players and coaching staff, alike. He could see plenty of playing time right out of the gate for a rebuilding Wizards squad, and fantasy managers could do worse with a late-round flier selection in 2025-26 drafts.

Johnson and Riley are the only ones dealing with an injury, and they’re both considered day-to-day. It’s worth noting this is the first night of a back-to-back for them. The rest are just getting a rest night. AJ Johnson, Leaky Black, Dillon Jones, Jamir Watkins and Liam Robbins will start.

Johnson has scored efficiently in both of Washington’s games in Las Vegas, totaling 39 points on 14-of-24 shooting from the field. Given how poor the Wizards were offensively last season, ranking 27th in points per game and 30th in offensive rating, and Jordan Poole’s departure, efficiency will be critical in 2025-26. If Johnson’s performances in Las Vegas carry over into the regular season, that would do wonders for the rebuilding Wizards. While he’ll be more valuable in dynasty leagues than redrafts, it would be unsurprising if Johnson were to offer consistent value as a rookie.

There may not be a better pure scorer in this class than Johnson. He averaged 19.9 points per game for Texas last season, which led all freshmen in Division I. He did that as the focal point of the offense in a tough conference. The 6’6” guard boasts a 6’10.25” wingspan and won’t turn 20 years old until March. Johnson also averaged 3.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.7 triples per game. His 42.7 field goal percentage was subpar, but his 39.7 three-point percentage and 87.1 free throw percentage both showcase that Johnson will be a knockdown shooter at the next level. He can create his own shot and knock down catch-and-shoot looks, which makes him a versatile piece to add to any offense. Tre joins a rebuilding Wizards franchise that added three first-round picks to its roster last June. The natural scoring ability should mesh well with a team that is looking for a “No. 1 option” on offense.
