It was a tale of two halves for McCollum. He got off to a scorching hot start to this game, scoring 23 points in the first half alone. That came after he had a season-high 25 points on Friday. He only scored two points after the break, and he wasn’t able to help the Wizards end their losing streak. Still, this two-game stretch was great to see from McCollum after he scored a total of eight points over the two previous games.

Having shot 3-of-19 from the field and 1-of-10 from three in his two previous games, McCollum was looking to snap out of that funk. Mission accomplished, as he shot 50 percent from the field and led the Wizards in scoring. Thirteen of his 16 shot attempts were from beyond the arc, and he has a three-point attempt rate of nearly 55 percent through nine games. When the shots are falling at a solid clip, as they were on Friday, that’s a nice deal for those who have McCollum rostered.

McCollum shot the ball well on Thursday, making five of his eight three-point attempts. Unfortunately, he did not provide much value outside the points and three-pointers. More important than that was McCollum getting untracked shooting-wise, as he’s making just 36.4 percent of his attempts from the field. That’s why he’s ranked outside the top-150 in nine-cat formats.

Averaging 4.3 assists per game entering Tuesday, McCollum notched a season-high in that category against the 76ers. In 56 games for the Pelicans last season, the veteran guard recorded at least seven assists on eight occasions. Bub Carrington (10/5/5/1/1 with two three-pointers) runs the show, but McCollum has the ball in his hands plenty. The lingering concern for fantasy managers is the potential for a late-season shutdown, but there’s little need to lose sleep over that in late October.

McCollum looked good in his final action of the preseason, playing 24 minutes against the Pistons. He and fellow veteran Khris Middleton (3/4/4 in 24 minutes) are in an interesting spot. Under normal circumstances, both would have solid fantasy value as starters. However, with the Wizards rebuilding, it’s fair to wonder how long that will last, and if the team hopes to showcase McCollum and Middleton before the February trade deadline. That question pushes both players down some boards, with McCollum being the superior fantasy option.

In their third and final preseason game, the Wizards will roll out the same five-man unit that they began the preseason with. Thursday’s starting lineup, which features a combination of youth and experienced veterans, could presumably be the same one used on opening night by Washington when it faces Milwaukee on October 22. Given the Wizards have neither played many preseason games nor gotten many reps together thus far, it’ll be interesting to see how much playing time the main rotation players receive against the Pistons.

McCollum looked sharp in his Wizards debut, hitting 7-of-14 shots, including 5-of-9 from beyond the arc. Washington started Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George, Khris Middleton and Bub Carrington, potentially showcasing an opening night starting five. McCollum will likely have the green light on offense, and fantasy managers can expect plenty of points and triples. The Wizards may shift in to tank mode at some point, and McCollum could emerge as a trade target, leaving his overall fantasy floor a bit questionable.

As Charania notes, Washington will pick up McCollum’s expiring deal and position itself to have $100 million in cap space in the summer of 2026. The Wizards will now have veterans McCollum, Khris Middleton, Marcus Smart and Kelly Olynyk on the squad for next season, but it’s fair to assume Washington will focus on developing young players like Bub Carrington, Bilal Coulibaly and Kyshawn George. Still, the Wizards aren’t exactly a deep team, so McCollum could see significant run in the nation’s capital.

McCollum suffered a right foot bone contusion on March 23, and he won’t suit up again this season. He has already missed the Pelicans’ last three games, and there is no reason for him to play through any ailments since their trying to improve their lottery odds. Jose Alvarado will continue to start at point guard for the rest of the season. The veteran guard returned 10th-round value in nine-cat leagues, declining in essentially every area of his game in his age-33 season. McCollum is entering the final year of his contract with the Pelicans in 2025-26 and will probably only amount to a late-round flier in fantasy leagues.

McCollum will miss a third consecutive game with a right foot contusion. Given where the Pelicans are in the standings, there’s no need for him to consider rushing back onto the court. Bruce Brown has taken on a more prominent role within the Pelicans rotation and should be rostered since the Pelicans will also be without Zion Williamson. Jordan Hawkins is also worth a look in deeper leagues.

McCollum will miss Friday’s game with a right foot contusion. Jordan Hawkins figures to see increased minutes in the absence of the 33-year-old shooting guard and could move into the starting lineup.

After scoring 36 points on 14-of-48 shooting in his three games prior, McCollum exploded in Detroit. Recording his first game of 40 points or more since February 13, the veteran guard has met or exceeded that number four times this season. With McCollum being ranked well outside the top 100 in eight- and nine-cat formats over the past two weeks, he needed a day like Sunday to get untracked. Unfortunately, the Pelicans have a small Week 21 slate, with the first of three games scheduled for Monday against the 76ers.

McCollum struggled as the Pelicans were outclassed by the Timberwolves Friday. New Orleans lost by 41 points and the 33-year-old shooting guard was -20 in 28 minutes. McCollum didn’t have his three-point shot going at all as he was 1-of-7 from behind the three-point line. He also committed six turnovers, which was as many as he had over the previous four games. McCollum and the Pelicans will look to bounce back Sunday against the Pistons.

After a brutal 1-of-15 performance in Monday’s loss to the Pistons, McCollum’s accuracy improved on Wednesday. Shooting 7-of-18 isn’t great, but it was significantly better than what he offered two nights prior. McCollum has not provided good value recently, as he is ranked just inside the top 200 in eight-cat formats over the past two weeks. McCollum will look to finish Week 20 on a good note, as the Pelicans will play games against the Timberwolves and Pistons.

It’s easy to find someone to point fingers at for the blowout loss. McCollum and Jose Alvarado, who started the second half after Trey Murphy exited with a shoulder injury, combined to make just two of their 25 shot attempts. The point guards simply needed to be way more productive than they were in this game. McCollum shouldn’t be this bad going forward, and Alvarado could end up starting if Murphy remains sidelined on Wednesday, though Jordan Hawkins is also a candidate to fill that void.

McCollum bounced back on Saturday, scoring 26 points two nights after he tallied nine on 3-of-10 shooting in a loss to the Magic. The Pelicans guard has been a 10th-round player in eight-cat formats since the All-Star break, one round below his value for the season. With the Pelicans focused on the draft lottery, back-to-backs may become an issue for McCollum down the stretch, even if he’s healthy. New Orleans plays four games during Week 20, finishing with a Sunday/Monday back-to-back.

After sitting out Friday’s loss to the Suns, McCollum made up for lost time on Sunday. Not only are the 25 points the most he’s scored since the All-Star break, but this was CJ’s first 20-point game since then. With the Thunder focused on the future, fantasy managers will likely need to assume McCollum won’t play both ends of back-to-backs. And New Orleans’ four-game Week 18 concludes with a Saturday/Sunday back-to-back against the Rockets and Grizzlies.
