While Morant looked better in Friday’s win over the Mavericks, all isn’t fine for the Grizzlies’ point guard. Pestered throughout Sunday’s game by Oklahoma City’s guards, he shot 1-of-11 from inside the three-point line. Add in the foul trouble, and this was a rough night for Morant and those who have him rostered. With the Grizzlies playing three games during Week 4, the hope is that a trip to Madison Square Garden on Tuesday will help Morant rediscover the “joy” he’s claimed to have lost recently.

Despite not shooting well from either inside or beyond the arc, Morant volumed his way to his first 20-point game of November. The more impressive part of his outing, however, was how well he made plays for others — the superstar guard set a season high in assists, although the strong facilitating was met with a season-worst seven turnovers. The double-double marked the second of the season for Morant, as he helped the Grizzlies stop a four-game skid.

Since winning the season opener against the Pelicans, the Grizzlies are 2-6. After Tuesday’s game, Morant said he doesn’t have his usual joy this year. It’s unlikely that he feels any differently after another loss Wednesday, this time to the Rockets and the Grizzlies’ third loss in a row. Morant is averaging 14.3 points per game on 28.6 percent shooting and four turnovers per game during the losing streak. It doesn’t get much easier for the 26-year-old point guard with home matchups against the Mavericks and Thunder on tap this weekend.

After serving a one-game suspension for “conduct detrimental to the team”, Morant returned to his role as the Grizzlies’ starting point guard. It was a subpar shooting night, but he was able to record a double-double. After the game, he was asked if he has his usual joy, and he said “no.” Clearly, the saga in Memphis will continue, though winning does seems to cure all. Unfortunately, the schedule doesn’t get any easier, with the Rockets up next on the schedule on Wednesday.

Morant will be back in the starting lineup after serving a one-game suspension. His return will push Cam Spencer back to the bench after an unproductive start against Toronto. If Spencer was streamed in, he can be returned to the waiver wire.

Morant’s suspension stems from comments made following Friday’s loss to the Lakers. The Grizzlies’ point guard had a disappointing performance, shooting 3-of-14 from the field and finishing with eight points, one rebound, seven assists and one steal in 31 minutes. When asked about his struggles, Morant told the assembled media to “go ask the coaching staff.” According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Grizzlies head coach Tuomas Iisalo challenged Morant’s leadership following the game, to which the point guard responded in a way that prompted the suspension. He’ll miss Sunday’s game against the Raptors, making Cam Spencer and Vince Williams Jr. players to consider grabbing off the waiver wire.

The Grizzlies were up by 14 at halftime, but Morant had trouble scoring all night and outright failed to score in the second half. The 26-year-old point guard is playing through an ankle injury, which could be contributing to him scoring above 23 points only twice in six games. Morant isn’t known for his three-point shooting, but he’s 5-for-30 from behind the three-point line so far. Overall, he’s had two good games out of six and he needs to be more consistent and efficient on offense.

While Morant did commit six turnovers, he shot over 50 percent from the field and made the game’s biggest shot. With 7.3 seconds remaining, his floater gave the Grizzlies a 114-113 lead that would stand as the final score after a Devin Booker miss. Morant’s 28 points are the most he’s scored in a game since the opener, when he dropped 35 on the Pelicans. The lingering concern for Morant is that he’s likely due for an extended absence at some point. However, he’s had no issues thus far after missing the preseason with an ankle injury.

Inefficient shooting prevented Morant from a more stellar stat line on Monday — he made fewer than half of his two-pointers and missed all of his six attempts from beyond the arc. The superstar guard was able to take advantage of the free-throw line, however, and impressed as a facilitator throughout the game. Ultimately, he finished just one assist shy of the double-double against the Warriors but will have a chance to log his first of the season against the Suns on Wednesday.

Morant only played 22 minutes in Friday’s loss to the Heat, which may have influenced the decision to make him available for Saturday night. Javon Small will remain in the backup point guard role, and Cam Spencer will get to spend some time on the ball when Morant is resting. Neither is a must-stream player in this spot.

Morant, who missed the entire preseason with a sprained left ankle, played 22 minutes in the 146-114 defeat. However, while the workload may lead some to assume he should be able to play on Saturday, the Grizzlies star was initially questionable for Friday. If Morant does not play because it is the second game of a back-to-back, Memphis will have to rely heavily on Javon Small and Cam Spencer. Small played 22 minutes on Friday, finishing with nine points and eight assists, and he would be worth streaming if Morant sits.

Morant was one of the only Grizzlies to get any sort of offense going in the first half, but he was held scoreless after the break. Morant was questionable with an ankle injury entering this game, and while he played through it, it’s unclear if he’ll be available to play against the Pacers on Saturday. Javon Small, who had eight assists in 22 minutes off the bench in this game, would likely start if Morant isn’t available to suit up.

Morant was upgraded from questionable and will make his second start in as many games on Friday evening. The superstar guard had dealt with a lingering ankle injury coming out of the preseason, but suited up for the regular-season opener anyway and proceeded to tally 35 points in a win against the Pelicans. He’ll have a chance to put together consecutive strong performances to begin the season

Morant is back on the injury report after injuring his ankle during the preseason. If something changes and he isn’t able to suit up for this game, Javon Small and Cam Spencer will likely split the point guard duties, with Small getting the starting nod.

Jackson did have to deal with some foul trouble, but that did not prevent him from putting up a big number in the blocks category. The six rejections were two shy of his career-high, and JJJ was productive as a rebounder and scorer. The Grizzlies started Jock Landale (10 points, four rebounds, two blocks and one three-pointer) at the five, and he logged 25 minutes, while Santi Aldama (5/6/2/1/2) played 24 off the bench. Of the two, Aldama is the superior fantasy option while the Grizzlies await Edey’s return. Regardless of what Aldama and Landale do, Jackson will lead the way.

Based on his performance Wednesday night, Morant didn’t seem negatively impacted by not playing during the preseason. The Grizzlies guard recorded excellent percentages and only committed two turnovers. Morant played 29 minutes, with the Grizzlies exercising some caution with his workload, but that didn’t prevent him from producing a masterclass. Javon Small played the other 19 minutes at point guard, going scoreless with three assists and one blocked shot. As Morant shakes off the rust, Small’s minutes will likely decrease.

Morant, who sprained his left ankle in early October, did not play during the preseason. With that in mind, his playing time may be limited on Wednesday. However, the Grizzlies will be without Scotty Pippen Jr. (toe) and Ty Jerome (calf), possibly resulting in rotation minutes off the bench for Javon Small. There isn’t a need to stream the rookie, since he’ll be in a backup role if he plays.

After missing the entire preseason, Morant is reportedly on track to play in Wednesday’s season opener. His return would come at an excellent time for the Grizzlies, who will be without backups Ty Jerome (calf) and Scotty Pippen Jr. (toe) for multiple weeks. Rookie Javon Small may take on rotation minutes off the bench depending on how much Morant is allowed to play. He’s not a must-stream player, but tracking Small’s role and playing time would be a good idea.

Morant, who sprained his left ankle in early October and was considered week-to-week, did not play in Friday’s preseason finale. However, he did get in some on-court work before Memphis’ win over Miami, and the Grizzlies hope to have their starting point guard back for the start of the regular season next week. And they can certainly use Morant, as Scotty Pippen Jr. (toe) will undergo surgery and is out indefinitely. Also, Ty Jerome injured his calf during the win over the Heat. Cam Spencer may be pressed into action if Morant cannot play next week.

Morant’s status hasn’t changed, but he was seen getting shots up at practice. Ty Jerome and Scotty Pippen Jr. will continue to fill the point guard minutes during the preseason, with Jerome as part of the starting unit.

It was a left ankle injury for Morant, who joins a long list of injured Grizzlies. With the start of the regular season a little over two weeks away, Morant’s status for opening night is certainly in question, and it would be surprising if he played much, if at all, during the preseason. Ty Jerome and Scotty Pippen Jr. would occupy the point guard minutes in Morant’s absence.

Morant exited early from Game 3 after a scary fall while attempting a layup. Memphis had a large lead when he exited, but they weren’t able to hold on, and they’ll now enter Game 4 without their star point guard and trailing 0-3 in the series. Scotty Pippen Jr. should take over point guard duties, while Luke Kennard will likely replace Morant in the starting unit after starting the second half in his place.

Morant suffered a left hip contusion when he was inadvertently undercut by Thunder wing Luguentz Dort while attempting a layup. The Grizzlies’ point guard stayed in the game long enough to try his free throws, which he needed to do to have any chance of returning. However, Morant walked to the locker room slowly immediately after those free throws and has been ruled out for the rest of the game. Luke Kennard moved into the lineup to begin the third quarter. Game 4 is on Saturday afternoon.

Morant struggled with his shooting efficiency for the second straight game against a suffocating Thunder defense. Combined with Morant’s shooting struggles were the five turnovers he produced, helping underscore just how much he struggled. Perhaps a change of scenery could help ignite Morant and the Grizzlies as they look to avoid going down 0-3 in the series when returning home for Game 3 on Thursday

Morant was inefficient in Game 1, like many of his teammates. The long ball was not falling for him or anyone else. The star point guard shot 34.1 percent against OKC during the regular season and things could get ugly (uglier?) for Memphis if their stout defense continues to stifle him.

Despite dealing with an ankle injury, Morant played a significant role in the Grizzlies’ blowout win over the Mavs. He had an injection to help his ankle on Thursday, and it paid off in the first half as he contributed 16 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals prior to the break. Unfortunately, he struggled after halftime, which nearly allowed Dallas to complete a big comeback. Morant will have about 36 hours to rest his ankle for they take on the Thunder in Game 1 of their first round series on Sunday.

As he has been saying all week, Morant will play in the Grizzlies’ play-in matchup with Dallas. Now, it’s finally official. Morant may be limited by the ankle injury, but he underwent an injection on Thursday, so he hopefully won’t be too limited. Regardless, expect him to play a significant role to try and keep their season alive.

Charania also noted that if this was a regular season game, Morant likely wouldn’t be playing. It is a “severe” ankle sprain, though he has never wavered from his stance that he will play against Dallas. The injection should help ease the pain, but it also establishes just how severe the injury is. Still, in an elimination game, Morant will play as much as he needs to in order to get Memphis to the playoffs.
