McCain has looked more comfortable by the game, with Friday’s performance being his best of the season. The second-year guard has scored at least 15 points in three straight games, with Friday’s being his first 20-point outing. While Quentin Grimes (19/3/9/2) started and played 41 minutes, his time on the floor may decrease as McCain’s restriction gets lifted. The 76ers end Week 6 with a game against the Hawks on Sunday.

One game removed from scoring a season-high 15 points against the Heat, McCain matched that number on Tuesday. It wasn’t enough to help the 76ers remain competitive, but it was another step in the right direction for the second-year guard. Quentin Grimes (eight points, three rebounds and four assists), who made another start for the injured Kelly Oubre Jr., shot 1-of-9 from the field on Tuesday. He remains a superior fantasy option to McCain, but Jared’s recent production should not be overlooked.

McCain was assigned to the 76ers’ G League affiliate on Thursday to play in two games for conditioning reasons. He’s back with the 76ers and will be available for Monday’s game. McCain may still be on a minutes restriction as he continues to work his way back from knee and thumb injuries.

Last year’s first-round pick is expected to play with the Blue Coats on Thursday and Saturday night, “so he can get minutes and continue acclimating.” McCain has struggled to adapt to playing with his bulky knee brace and is also still on a minutes restriction, so the Sixers believe it makes more sense for him to continue that adjustment period in the G-League. He could be back up on the Sixers’ bench next week.

McCain is back after sitting out Wednesday’s loss to the Cavaliers, which was the second game of a back-to-back for the 76ers. His minutes may be limited on Saturday due to time missed with knee and thumb injuries. Also, fantasy managers should anticipate McCain not playing in Sunday’s game against the Pistons.

McCain logged 15 minutes on Tuesday after missing the start of the season due to a thumb injury. However, he also missed most of last season with a torn left meniscus, which is why he won’t play the second leg of this back-to-back. Quentin Grimes and Justin Edwards will make up his minutes off the bench.

To no one’s surprise, McCain looked a bit rusty in his first appearance of the season. And with the second-year guard being under a minutes restriction, there wasn’t much time for McCain to establish a rhythm offensively. While his return bumped Justin Edwards (DNP-CD) out of the rotation entirely, VJ Edgecombe (12/11/4/2 with three three-pointers) played 38 minutes and fellow reserve Quentin Grimes (10/3/4/4/1) logged 30. Fantasy managers with either of those players rostered won’t have much to worry about, even after McCain’s minutes limit is lifted.

McCain is officially available to play for the first time this season. While he’ll provide depth off the bench, the second-year guard will be under a minutes restriction. Rookie VJ Edgecombe and Quentin Grimes should be fine with regard to playing time, but Justin Edwards could fall out of the rotation entirely.

McCain is on track to make his season debut against Chicago, but it’s unclear how much playing time he’ll get and what his usage will look like after not playing an NBA game since last December. As he ramps up, playing time for Quentin Grimes could recede, but Grimes has played too well to be phased out of the rotation entirely.

McCain had thumb surgery in September, and he is expected to suit up for the first time since last December. He’ll likely be brought along slowly, but he’ll eventually cut into Quentin Grimes’ minutes off the bench. Regardless, it will be good to see McCain back out on the floor.

McCain averaged 15.3 points last season while shooting 46 percent from the field and 38.3 percent from three-point range in 23 games as a rookie. He is currently working his way back from offseason thumb surgery but has begun practicing with the team.

McCain has been sidelined since having surgery in September to fix a torn UCL in his right thumb. He was able to participate in a team shootaround earlier this week and has now progressed to practicing. The return timeline for him was four-to-six weeks, and he has already eclipsed the four-week mark, so he could be back on the court in the next few days if he responds well to practice. What that means for the minutes that VJ Edgecombe and Quentin Grimes have been getting will be interesting to see.

Head coach Nick Nurse said that this was the second day that McCain was able to shoot and that he is making progress. There isn’t a clear timeline for McCain’s return, but this is a step in the right direction for him.

McCain suffered a torn UCL in his right thumb during a recent workout, sidelining the second-year guard just before Philadelphia opened training camp. Charania reported Friday that McCain will undergo surgery to address the injury and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks. Philadelphia will have to rely even more on rookie VJ Edgecombe off the bench, and McCain’s absence could impact how the 76ers deal with unsigned restricted free agent Quentin Grimes. He has until October 1 to sign the qualifying offer to play, and the two sides are reportedly far apart on a potential multi-year extension. Grimes is not traveling with the team to Abu Dhabi for its two preseason games against the Knicks.

McCain’s rookie year ended prematurely due to a torn left meniscus, and now the start to his sophomore season will be delayed. They’re still deciding how they will approach the injury, which means the 76ers should make an announcement in the coming days, though with their media day set for Friday, that could be the perfect time for the decision to be shared. Assuming he isn’t ready for the start of the season, signing Quentin Grimes to a contract becomes more important than ever, and rookie VJ Edgecombe will likely be asked to play a significant role immediately.

McCain played like one of the best rookies in the NBA last season before a knee injury ended his rookie campaign in mid-December. While he is expected to be ready to go when the 2025-26 season begins, the 76ers are taking a conservative approach to McCain’s recovery. He won’t play during Summer League, which means the ball should be in lottery pick VJ Edgecombe’s hands even more. During his media availability on Tuesday, the rookie said he’ll be sharpening his point guard skills during Summer League. The ability to play on or off the ball would boost Edgecombe’s value, especially in dynasty leagues.
