McConnell has yet to play this season after suffering a hamstring injury in the preseason. The 33-year-old point guard is ramping up in his recovery and his questionable listing at least gives him a chance to return against the Jazz on Tuesday. McConnell will be worth the wait for fantasy managers as he’ll eventually return to a full workload with the Pacers’ many other injuries.

Injured during the preseason, McConnell has yet to appear in a game this season. While Carlisle did not provide an updated timeline on the veteran point guard, the fact that T.J. is ramping up is a good sign for the injury-riddled Pacers. He’ll have tangible fantasy value as soon as he’s allowed to take on a full workload, even with Andrew Nembhard being the starter.

McConnell left Tuesday’s matchup with Minnesota early with the injury, and it will keep him sidelined until at least early November, meaning he’ll miss time to open the season. For as long as McConnell is out, Quenton Jackson, Johnny Furphy and Ben Sheppard are all candidates for increased run behind Andrew Nembhard and Bennedict Mathurin in Indiana’s backcourt.

The Pacers are calling it a sore left hamstring, so hopefully this isn’t a serious injury. With Kam Jones sidelined and Delon Wright exiting after taking a hit to the face, Taelon Peter should fill out the non-Andrew Nembhard point guard minutes for the remainder of this exhibition.

Tyrese Haliburton went down just seven minutes into the game, and McConnell stepped up in a big way. He did his best to carry the listless Pacers offense, and at one point in the third quarter, he scored 12 straight points for his team. Despite being the spark that kept Indiana competitive midway through the third, McConnell wasn’t on the court to start the fourth and logged only 28 minutes. McConnell cemented his name as a legend in Indiana with gritty performance after gritty performance across seven games. Depending on the severity of Haliburton’s Achilles injury, McConnell could be forced to step into a larger role next season. He’s shown that he’s capable of good fantasy lines with increased playing time.

McConnell has been fantastic in this series, and this was arguably his best performance. He has averaged 11.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.3 steals through the first six games of the Finals, and he has scored in double figures four times. He stepped up with Tyrese Haliburton (calf) not fully healthy, which allowed them to manage Haliburton’s minutes. McConnell has been invaluable for the Pacers in this series, and they’ll need him to continue to contribute on Sunday, especially if Haliburton’s calf is still bothering him.

With Tyrese Haliburton limited due to a right calf injury and Andrew Nembhard struggling, the Pacers needed more from McConnell. Unsurprisingly, the veteran point guard stepped up, even screaming “you can’t guard me” at the Thunder players at one point. McConnell answering the call is to be expected, even with his perceived offensive limitations. With Haliburton likely to be at less than full strength for Game 6 on Thursday, the Pacers will need a performance from McConnell similar to the one they received on Monday.

Again, McConnell gave the Pacers good minutes off the bench, but he did most of his damage during the first half. The veteran point guard shot 4-of-6 from the field in the first half, scoring 10 points to help the Pacers push their lead out to as much as 20. New York’s bench was superior after halftime, helping the visitors rally for the win despite Jalen Brunson sitting for a significant stretch due to foul trouble. After outscoring their Knicks counterparts by 14 and 10 points in the first two games, the Pacers were only a plus-5 in bench points in Game 3. McConnell and the other reserves will aim to improve in Tuesday’s Game 4.

McConnell was a bright spot off the bench, electrifying the Gainbridge Fieldhouse crowd as he took over in the second half with his scoring and facilitating. He finished the game with more points than the rest of the Pacers’ bench combined. Expect McConnell to play an important role in the Pacers’ second-round series against the first-seeded Cavaliers.

Following Monday’s overtime victory, Pacers coach Rick Carlisle gave McConnell credit for willing the team to the extra period. The veteran point guard took on a more prominent role within the rotation, as Tyrese Haliburton was out with an injury and Andrew Nembhard was ejected during the third quarter. McConnell’s point total did not increase substantially, but he did dish out 13 assists. T.J. will have added value if Haliburton has to miss more time.

McConnell left Saturday’s game against the Hawks in the first quarter with a right ankle sprain, but is available Monday against the Bulls after he was initially listed as questionable. The 32-year-old point guard will figure prominently in this game as starting point guard Tyrese Haliburton (hip) has already been ruled out.

McConnell played 19 seconds in Saturday’s loss to the Hawks, exiting with a sprained right ankle. His absence led to fellow reserve Bennedict Mathurin playing more minutes, but the Pacers were also without Tyrese Haliburton on account of a hip injury. Mathurin’s minutes will decrease if Haliburton and McConnell can play against the Bulls.

McConnell has missed Indiana’s last two games and is in danger of missing a third. Tyrese Haliburton and Andrew Nembhard will continue to split the point guard minutes if McConnell remains out, while Bennedict Mathurin and Ben Sheppard will take on extra minutes off the bench.
