Clayton’s play was a reason the Jazz were able to push Friday’s game to overtime. The rookie guard logged 34 of 53 minutes, finishing with a complete stat line. Clayton was on the floor for extended periods with Keyonte George, which may be a sign that there will be times when the Jazz are willing to go small on the perimeter. That would bode well for Clayton, as the Jazz still have Isaiah Collier in the mix despite his not playing in the team’s first two preseason games. Who serves as the starting point guard when the regular season begins will offer the highest fantasy upside, but the competition isn’t over yet.

Clayton continues to impress this summer. The 22-year-old point guard had at least 20 points and four three-points for the second consecutive game. Clayton should continue to gain experience with heavy minutes in Summer League as he prepares to battle Isaiah Collier for point guard minutes this year.

Clayton had a big second half against Oklahoma City to help guide Utah to victory. He scored 15 of his 20 points after halftime, which helped them take control of this game in the third quarter. They relinquished the big lead in the fourth quarter, but Clayton was able to knock down a three-pointer with 2:31 left to give them back the lead, which they held for the rest of the game. There has been a lot to like through the first three games from Clayton.

Utah traded up to add Clayton Jr. with the No. 18 pick of last month’s draft, and his debut for them was solid. He showcased both his floor spacing ability and his passing ability; both are qualities that helped him lead Florida to a national championship and end up as a first-round pick. Clayton Jr. should continue to play a lot of minutes this summer as he competes with Isaiah Collier for point guard minutes this season.

While Washington made this pick, they did so for the Jazz as part of a trade that will be finalized in the coming days. Clayton Jr. left the collegiate scene on the highest note possible, as he led the Gators to a national championship and won NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player honors in the process. Florida’s star guard finished the 2024-25 season with averages of 18.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.2 steals and 3.0 triples while shooting 45/39/88 splits. After spending two seasons at Iona, he ended his career with two seasons at Florida, where he flourished, earning All-SEC honors twice. Pop in the tape of Clayton Jr.’s back-to-back 30-point performances in the Elite 8 and Final 4 to see why he can make an immediate impact on offense at the next level. With Utah having selected guards in the first round of their last two drafts, Keyonte George and Isaiah Collier, adding Clayton to the mix does not bode well for either of those two. In exchange for this pick, Utah will send the 21st and 43rd overall picks in the 2025 draft and second-round picks in 2031 and 2032 to Washington.
