The Hawks are without Dyson Daniels and Jalen Johnson for Monday’s game, opening up two spots in the starting lineup. McCollum and Newell will fill the voids. While the latter is a player of greater interest to dynasty league managers, the former offers greater value in the short term.

Newell left Sunday’s game against the Warriors in the second quarter with a right quad contusion and didn’t return. The 20-year-old forward is available Tuesday against the Lakers, but doesn’t have a fantasy-relevant role and thus isn’t worth rostering in most redraft leagues.

Newell exited Sunday’s win over the Warriors after playing four minutes during the second quarter. His potential absence would not affect fantasy basketball, even with Kristaps Porziņǵis (Achilles) unavailable. More minutes will be available to fellow reserve Mouhamed Gueye, even if Newell plays.

Newell played four minutes before exiting Sunday’s game with a right quad contusion. While the Hawks announced that the rookie was questionable to return, he did not. Atlanta won the game big, so Newell likely would have picked up a few more minutes in the fourth quarter. Hopefully, he won’t have to miss time, but the rookie forward’s status won’t affect redraft leagues.

The rookie returned to the rotation with the Hawks playing without five key pieces, and he delivered energy off the bench, which resulted in production in the box score. Both Newell and Vit Krejci scored 17 points off the bench and joined all five starters in scoring in double figures. This was an excellent performance for both players, especially considering neither was in the rotation on Friday night. Both are capable, but they won’t be part of the rotation on most nights, making them valuable only in dynasty leagues.
