As was the case during Summer League action in Las Vegas, Jones-Garcia stepped up when his team needed him most on Friday. He made all three of his shot attempts during overtime, and the Spurs guard consistently got to the foul line in the second half. Jones-Garcia is on a two-way deal, and the Spurs will have a relatively full backcourt once De’Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle join the ranks. However, he may be able to provide occasional streaming value, especially since Fox is unlikely to be available to start the regular season.

Jones-Garcia was one of the stars of the summer, playing exceptionally well for the Spurs in Salt Lake City and Las Vegas. After his showing at the latter tournament, he was named a first-team All-Summer League player. Jones-Garcia garnered interest from Greek power Olympiacos. However, the player turned down the offer, and he has reportedly agreed to a two-way contract with the Spurs. While San Antonio’s perimeter depth will make it difficult for Jones-Garcia to get the minutes needed to impact fantasy basketball, he’s sticking with a franchise he’s comfortable with.

Based on his play in Salt Lake City and now Las Vegas, Jones-Garcia has seemed intent on taking someone’s job this summer. He’s a free agent, and the Spurs have yet to allocate any of their three two-way contracts. Given Jones-Garcia’s productivity, a two-way contract may be selling him short, whether it’s with the Spurs or another team.

Well, if there’s a good place to be when you catch the “hot hand,” Las Vegas is it. Jones-Garcia shot 75 percent from the field on Thursday, continuing to play well after earning All-California Classic team honors at the beginning of the week. And revenge may have been on Jones-Garcia’s mind for Thursday’s 111-70 victory, as he began his professional career with the 76ers on a two-way deal before being waived in January 2024. Jones-Garcia’s play this summer may be enough to earn him another two-way opportunity if he can continue on this path.
