The Mavericks will have a true point guard in the lineup for Wednesday’s game, with Russell receiving the starting nod. However, his inclusion comes at the expense of Klay Thompson, who has struggled to begin the season. Thompson hasn’t played well enough to merit being rostered in standard leagues, but deep-league managers can hang on for another game or two.

Two days after Russell set a new season-high for scoring, he provided offense off the bench in a different form by setting a new season-high for assists. Though Russell is still in a reserve role, he’ll continue to be important on offense until Kyrie Irving (knee) returns to the lineup, which is still months away. He’ll have inefficient nights like this one, but he’ll still play a large role consistently; he has played at least 29 minutes in four of the Mavericks’ last five games.

Russell has hit double figures in three of his last four games, surpassing 20 points twice. Saturday’s performance was the best of the bunch, with the 31 points being the most he’s scored in a game since March 8, 2024, as a member of the Lakers (44 vs. Milwaukee). D’Lo was expected by many to begin the season as a starter, but Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd’s decision to toss the keys to Cooper Flagg may have caught the veteran by surprise. He’s recently looked more comfortable in his role, giving Dallas needed production off the bench as they play without Anthony Davis. The Mavericks play four games during Week 3, starting with the Rockets on Monday.

Russell is available after initially being listed as questionable with a left knee contusion. He’ll take on his usual role off the bench, likely playing within 22 and 25 minutes. With Cooper Flagg acting as the starting point guard and Brandon Williams also playing rotation minutes off the bench, Russell offers limited fantasy upside at best.

Russell suffered a left knee contusion during Wednesday’s win over the Pacers, logging 20 minutes off the bench. If DLo cannot play against Detroit, more minutes will be available to fellow reserve Brandon Williams. Williams was excellent against Indiana, but he’s a risky streamer due to Jason Kidd’s unpredictable rotation.

After playing 24 minutes in the Mavericks’ first two games, including nine in Friday’s loss to the Wizards, Russell figured more prominently in the rotation on Sunday. He took advantage of the opportunity, joining Anthony Davis and Cooper Flagg as the Mavericks’ 20-point scorers. With Kyrie Irving (knee) out, Russell is the best healthy point guard on the roster. While there’s a desire to have the ball in Flagg’s hands as a playmaker, that should not mean Russell gets bumped to the fringe of the rotation. Sunday’s effort should ensure he continues to play quality minutes after seeing limited time in the first two games.

Russell surveyed the court well in his limited reps on Monday evening. He recorded a team-high in assists and chipped in a basket from beyond the arc along the way. Russell’s continuity with Anthony Davis, his former teammate with the Lakers, is expected to play a key role in the Mavericks’ start to the season. His shooting and playmaking will also be pivotal while the Mavericks remain without an expected return date for their superstar guard, Kyrie Irving (knee).

Russell, who signed with Dallas at the start of free agency, said he feels stronger, wiser and more careful. That’ll work well for Dallas, since they’ll need him to start at point guard for the first few months of the season until Kyrie Irving returns from the torn left ACL that he suffered in March. Russell should be productive for the Mavericks to open the year, but it’s unlikely he actually has a career year, even if he feels like he’s in his prime.

Russell figures to have a significant backcourt role with the Mavericks early in the season as Kyrie Irving recovers from injury. The 29-year-old point guard is also reunited with his former Lakers teammate Anthony Davis. Russell averaged 12.6 points per game and 5.1 assists per game in 58 games with the Lakers and Nets last season. Considering the lack of competition for usage he walks into in Dallas, Russell has fringe top-100 fantasy value in his range of outcomes.

Russell missed last Saturday’s game with an ankle injury but had a nice game in his return against the Mavericks on Monday with 18 points, five rebounds and 11 assists. The 29-year-old point guard had a terrible game against the Timberwolves Thursday. Seemingly out of nowhere, Russell was held without points as he missed all six of his field goal attempts. He played just 13 minutes, which had to do with his effectiveness and not his ankle injury. Russell will look to bounce back Sunday against the Raptors.

No surprise here as Russell was initially listed as probable with right ankle soreness. The 29-year-old point guard missed last Saturday’s game against the Wizards, but returned Monday against the Mavericks and had a double-double. He appears to be mostly over the ankle issue at this point.

Russell is dealing with a sore right ankle, but the probable tag suggests he will be available on Thursday. If not, Tyrese Martin is most likely to enter the starting lineup. Martin has not been a great streamer when allowed to start, but he would be worth a look in deep leagues on one of the lighter game days of Week 22.

After missing Saturday’s game against Washington with the ankle injury that has had him in and out of the lineup often recently, Russell was back in the lineup and had one of his best games since January. This was his first double-double since January 21 and his most assists in a game since he had 12 on January 2, which was his second game during this stint with the Nets. Russell’s availability will continue to be a headache, but this was a solid performance for the veteran.

Russell will sit out the second night of Brooklyn’s back-to-back, and Tyrese Martin started in place of Russell during his most recent absence. Martin should return to the starting unit on Saturday, but he isn’t an appealing streaming option in standard leagues.

Russell can play on Wednesday after missing two games with a sore right ankle. With Cameron Johnson (rest) ruled out, Tyrese Martin may remain in the starting lineup, playing alongside Russell and Keon Johnson. Martin offers limited streaming value as a starter due to his inconsistent production.

Russell and Williams sat out Saturday’s loss to the Pacers, with Tyrese Martin and Keon Johnson filling the voids in the lineup. Those two will head to the bench if Russell and Williams are available, with Keon having a better chance of retaining his fantasy value.

Russell is dealing with right ankle soreness. The 29-year-old point guard’s injury is bad enough that he’s ruled out over 24 in advance of the game. With Russell sidelined, the Nets will likely go back to Tyrese Martin in the starting lineup.

Russell shrugged off a slow start to the game and ended up scoring at least 20 points for the second time since the All-Star break. It was still an inefficient shooting night, but that isn’t new for him. He has shot below 40 percent from the floor in five straight games and has shot 39.5 percent from the floor this season, which is a steep drop from his 45.6 percent shooting last year. Russell is still capable of being a strong fantasy asset, but he has had quite a few poor performances recently and has also missed quite a few games.

Russell scored a team-high 18 points on Tuesday, but the fact that he struggled from the field is unsurprising, given the opposition. Pestered by Derrick White or Jrue Holiday for most of the night, the Nets point guard shot 6-of-18 from the field. The good news for fantasy managers, especially those in category leagues, is that he only committed two turnovers and finished with a solid assist-to-turnover ratio. Russell has played 29 minutes in three of his last five outings, enough time to provide solid value when he’s on the court.

Russell and Williams are back after sitting out Sunday’s win over the Hawks. Their returns push Tyrese Martin and Jalen Wilson to the bench. While Martin and Wilson will remain in the rotation, their fantasy ceilings are lowered with the move out of the starting five.

Russell will be available after sitting out Sunday’s win over the Hawks. His return means Tyrese Martin, who logged 33 minutes against Atlanta, will return to the bench. When used in a reserve role, Martin has a low fantasy ceiling but will remain in the rotation.

Russell is back after a one-game absence. Brooklyn staggered the availability of Russell and Thomas, which allowed Keon Johnson to start during their back-to-back on Monday and Tuesday. Johnson will return to playing a reserve role on Thursday, but the Nets have another back-to-back coming up this weekend.

D’Lo will sit out the second leg of Brooklyn’s back-to-back set to for injury management on the right ankle that cost him five games in a row from February 22 to March 1. With Russell on the sideline, Keon Johnson, Ziaire Williams and Tyrese Martin could all see additional playing time.

Russell combined for 19 points, eight assists and a rebound across his last two games, so Saturday’s performance was a nice bounce back effort. D’Lo’s playing time and production have been sporadic all season, and they’ll be especially unpredictable down the stretch of silly season for the “tanking” Nets.

Tuesday’s game was the second for Russell since the All-Star break, and availability will be a concern for the rest of the season. And with the Nets only two games behind 10th-place Chicago in the loss column, a little more “effort” may be required from the front office to improve the team’s lottery odds. That would be bad news for managers looking to Russell for production during the fantasy playoffs. The Nets only play two more games during Week 18, but they have two back-to-back during a five-game Week 19.

Russell will be back in the lineup after a five-game absence. Killian Hayes had been starting at point guard with Russell out, but Brooklyn didn’t give him a second 10-day contract. Russell will return to his spot in the starting lineup, but it won’t dramatically impact the rest of the rotation.
