Richard got the start for Golden State on Friday and logged a productive outing. He scored in double figures for the second straight game and used active hands against the Clippers to collect a season-high in steals. It seems unlikely that the NCAA champion will find rotation minutes for the Warriors during his rookie season, but the strong finish to the preseason should bode well for his overall confidence heading into his rookie season.

Richard was selected with the No. 56 pick in June and had a few decent performances in summer league. Now, he’ll occupy a roster spot for Golden State, which bodes well for his future with the team, since he won’t be on a two-way deal. Still, there isn’t a pathway for him to play a large role this season.

Richard was not as productive offensively as he was in Friday’s blowout loss to the Trail Blazers, but he once again provided value in multiple areas. The second-round pick out of Florida is in a similar position to Alex Toohey, with both yet to sign contracts with the Warriors. Not only does Golden State have two available two-way slots, but it also has multiple open standard contract slots. Some notable free agents are still available on the market, including restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga, so Richard may be in a holding pattern of sorts as the Warriors’ front office sorts things out.

Richard didn’t play in Golden State’s first Summer League game but has been a solid source of offense over their last two games. The three-and-D prospect didn’t knock down any triples on Tuesday, but he will certainly knock down shots eventually. He’ll continue to play a large role for them this summer, but the odds of that translating to a role in the rotation during the regular season are slim.

Selected with the 56th overall pick in last month’s draft, Richard is the lone 2025 draft pick on the Warriors’ summer league roster. While he did not have his best night shooting the basketball, the versatile forward made frequent trips to the foul line to boost his point total. Add in the rebounds and defending, and Richard is a player who can offer value to a winning team. Depending on what happens with restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga, Richard could be someone to watch early in the season, even if he is not worth selecting in fantasy drafts.

Golden State traded up from the 59th pick to add Richard, who just won a national championship at Florida. He is a win-now prospect that should provide three-and-D value off the bench if he’s able to crack the rotation. He doesn’t do much creating, but he should be ready to fill a role for a Warriors team that will be trying to win a championship. Richard averaged 13.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.7 steals and 2.0 three-pointers per game last season.
