While he does not offer the same offensive ceiling, Sheppard is a solid defender who can be helpful in this matchup. The third-year guard had his best game of the season, recording a complete stat line that included 18 points and three three-pointers. Rostered in three percent of Yahoo! leagues, Sheppard still isn’t in a place where he has to be on deep-league rosters. But the circumstances make him a player to watch, especially with the Pacers hitting the road for a four-game trip.

Quenton Jackson (hamstring) is out indefinitely after injuring his hamstring during Monday’s loss to the Bucks. Sheppard will make his fourth start of the season, and while he hasn’t been the most productive option, there won’t be a shortage of opportunities due to the Pacers’ many injuries. Look for Siakam to have the ball in his hands quite often as a facilitator for others, while also getting his own looks.

Andrew Nembhard exited after halftime with a shoulder injury, which opened the door for Sheppard to start the second half. Sheppard hasn’t ever been much of a producer in fantasy basketball, but he was able to contribute a well-rounded line in this game. Rick Carlisle said after the game that Nembhard will undergo more tests on his shoulder. If he is forced to miss time, Sheppard should continue to start, though he may not consistently contribute as much as he did in this game.

Sheppard made his first appearance of the preseason on Friday, playing 12 minutes off the bench. With T.J. McConnell (hamstring) set to miss the start of the regular season and Tyrese Haliburton (Achilles) out for the year, there may be additional opportunities for Sheppard to contribute. However, the same can be said for Johnny Furphy, who looked sensational when active and offers a higher ceiling. If fantasy managers are to roll the dice on any of the Pacers’ reserves while McConnell is out, Furphy should be the choice.

Sheppard was a key reserve for the Pacers against the Bucks in the playoffs last year as he averaged 17.7 minutes per game.

The Belmont product has averaged 27.5 minutes across eight starts this season, but he’s done nothing notable with those opportunities. Sheppard isn’t worth streaming here.
