Sims started the second half on Wednesday after Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) exited early. Sims finished with 15 points and 14 rebounds in 30 minutes, and he’ll have an opportunity to post another double-double in this one. If he plays well and continues to start, he could be a reliable streaming option until Giannis returns in two-to-four weeks.

The Bucks will start Jericho Sims on Monday in place of Bobby Portis as they look to snap a four-game losing streak. Sims’ start will mark his first as a member of the Bucks — he’s averaging 1.8 points and 2.2 rebounds per game across 12 appearances this season. Portis should still play a sizable role off the bench, with his scoring production likely going to be needed.

The Bucks acquired Sims last year in the four-team trade that sent Khris Middleton to the Wizards and Kyle Kuzma also to the Bucks. The 26-year-old backup big man appeared in a career-high 53 games last year as well as all five of the Bucks’ playoff games. Sims isn’t much of a fantasy factor when the Bucks are at full strength.

Head coach Doc Rivers said on Tuesday that he expected Sims to be available for this series. He missed the final month of the regular season with a torn ligament in his right thumb, but he will available to return for the postseason. However, with Bobby Portis back from his suspension, Sims’ role will be minimal.

Sims suffered a torn ligament in his right thumb in mid-March, with the team giving him a four-week timeline after undergoing surgery. The reserve center participated in most of Tuesday’s practice, sparking optimism that he will be available. However, with Brook Lopez due to play most of the minutes and Bobby Portis back from his 25-game suspension, there won’t be many minutes available to Sims.

Sims had been able to play through the thumb injury, but the Bucks opted to fix the issue now to ensure that he will be ready for the postseason. Sims only played a small role off the bench, but it was a critical one to keep Giannis Antetokounmpo and Brook Lopez as fresh as possible. Now, Giannis and Lopez will likely have to stagger as the center options due to the lack of bigs on the bench.

With Sims still listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Thunder, the question is whether or not he can do more damage to the injury through playing. While he has provided solid minutes off the bench, Sims has not done enough to impact fantasy basketball. If Sims has to miss time, Giannis Antetokounmpo may see some action at the center position when Brook Lopez is resting.

Sims has filled out the backup center minutes recently, and he is the only frontcourt player that sees consistent minutes off the bench for Milwaukee. If he is sidelined, Giannis Antetokounmpo may see more time at center when Brook Lopez is off the floor.
