Luka Dončić’s absence due to a leg contusion meant the Lakers needed more production from their remaining guards. While Smart and Nick Smith Jr. (12 points, one rebound, one assist and one three-pointer) both reached double figures, neither came through with the stat line that would spark intrigue among fantasy managers. It’s safe to leave Smart and Smith on the waiver wire in most redraft leagues.

Sunday’s game will be the Lakers’ first since losing Austin Reaves to a mild calf strain in Wednesday’s loss to the Spurs. Smart will fill the void in the starting lineup, and he may be able to provide deep-league value playing off of Luka and LeBron. That’s the lone change to the starting lineup.

Following a six-game absence, Smart will return to the lineup for Wednesday’s NBA Cup quarterfinal game. Smart had previously said he planned to play in this game, so this lines up. He’ll play a large reserve role, though that won’t be enough time for him to make much of an impact in fantasy basketball. However, with only two games being played that day, he is at least worth consideration.

“Back is feeling good. Felt good in practice today ... I’m gonna give it a shot tomorrow and see how it feels,” said Smart. The veteran guard should be considered probable for Wednesday’s tilt with the Spurs after missing the Lakers’ last six games.

Smart will miss a sixth straight game as he continues to deal with a strained left lumbar muscle. While his absence does not affect fantasy basketball, it means Gabe Vincent will continue to play solid minutes, even with Luka Dončić (personal) available.

Smart has missed the last four games with a back injury. He’ll continue to sit out as he manages the injury. Lakers coach JJ Redick told reporters earlier this week that he expected Smart back soon, but he’s missed two games since that quote and remains without a clear timetable to return.

Smart has missed the last three games with a lower back injury. The 31-year-old shooting guard will sit out again Thursday for injury management reasons. Gabe Vincent could see extra minutes with Smart out, but won’t be viable in fantasy basketball.

Redick said it’s “not a long-term thing.” Monday will be a third straight absence for Smart, but he could end up returning by Thursday to take on Toronto, which would cut into Gabe Vincent’s role.

Smart will miss a third straight game with back spasms, freeing up rotation minutes for Gabe Vincent. However, with everyone else available, Vincent is unlikely to get the opportunities needed to impact fantasy basketball.

Due to back spasms, Smart did not play in Friday’s win over the Mavericks. With the doubtful tag, it appears likely that he’ll miss a second straight game. Gabe Vincent picked up additional minutes with Smart unavailable, and that would likely be the case on Sunday as well. However, Vincent is not worth streaming in most leagues.

Smart has officially been ruled out after being downgraded from questionable to doubtful earlier in the day. Gabe Vincent and Dalton Knecht should take on larger roles with Smart unavailable, though it is unlikely that either ends up being worth a stream.

With Smart unlikely to take the court against Dallas, expect Gabe Vincent and Dalton Knecht to absorb his minutes. Neither Vincent nor Knecht are particularly appealing for fantasy purposes.

Smart, who played 20 minutes in Tuesday’s win over the Clippers, is dealing with back spasms. If he’s unable to play on Friday, Gabe Vincent and Dalton Knecht may absorb the available minutes. However, neither has been productive enough to merit streaming, especially with Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves available.

With Smart unavailable, Jake LaRavia and Dalton Knecht should take on extra minutes, with one of them sliding into the starting lineup. Rookie Adou Thiero could also make his NBA debut with Smart out. He won’t play enough to be worth streaming, but he’s worth keeping tabs on.

Smart is dealing with a viral illness, hence his appearance on the injury report after playing 34 minutes in Friday’s win over the Pelicans. While there would be more minutes available to Dalton Knecht, he’s not worth the streaming risk if Smart sits.

While Luka Dončić, Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura handled most of the scoring on Monday, Smart was a pest defensively. The veteran guard recorded seven steals, one shy of his career-high, while also providing solid value in the assist and three-point categories. Rostered in seven percent of Yahoo! leagues, Smart is closing in on top-100 value in nine-cat formats. While LeBron James (sciatica) is making progress in his recovery, streaming Smart in deep leagues for the final three games of the Lakers’ road trip wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Dončić and Smart are back from injury, and both will be in the starting lineup. In the latter’s case, he’s likely to take on the assignment of defending Grizzlies star Ja Morant. Reaves, Vanderbilt and Ayton are the holdovers for the Lakers, who have won two of their last three games.

Smart missed Los Angeles’ last two games after injuring his quad on Sunday, and he should be back on the court after a brief absence. Smart’s return coincides with Luka Doncic’s, and the Lakers simply don’t have enough touches to go around for Smart to be a viable option in most fantasy leagues.

Smart injured his quad during Sunday’s win over the Kings and missed the following two games as a result. While he may return on Friday, that’s also the case for Luka Dončić, who’s questionable with finger and leg injuries. There’s no need to roster Smart in fantasy leagues if he’s available to play against the Grizzlies.

This will be a second consecutive absence for Smart, who injured his quad against the Kings on Sunday. Jake LaRavia got the starting nod in his place on Monday and should remain in that role against the Wolves. However, Dalton Knecht ended up playing much better than LaRavia off the bench and should have a chance to take on extra minutes.

Smart suffered a right quad contusion during the second half of Sunday’s win over the Kings and missed the following night’s loss to Portland. Austin Reaves slid into the starting point guard role against the Trail Blazers, with Jake LaRavia moving into the starting lineup. Expect the same if Smart can’t play on Wednesday.

Smart injured his quad during the second half of Sunday’s win over the Kings, which ended his night a but early. That will keep him sidelined for the second leg of the Lakers’ back-to-back. Smart started that game with Luka Doncic sidelined, so Jake LaRavia or Dalton Knecht could replace Smart for this game.

As expected, Smart was Lakers head coach JJ Redick’s choice to replace the injured Luka Dončić in the starting lineup. And there weren’t any surprises regarding the veteran guard’s production. Smart didn’t have a great night shooting the basketball, but the foul line boosted his point total, and he dished out five assists with just one turnover. The Lakers play four games during Week 2, and Dončić won’t be re-evaluated until before the last contest. Smart isn’t a must-add; fantasy managers would be better off with Rui Hachimura, even if he isn’t a point guard.

The Lakers are without Luka Dončić for Sunday’s game. He will miss at least one week with finger and leg injuries. He’ll be replaced in the starting lineup by Smart, a solid defender whose offensive production tends to be inconsistent. However, given the Lakers’ lack of options, he’s worth a look in deeper fantasy leagues. Also worth a look is Hachimura, who remains available in over 75 percent of Yahoo! leagues.

After offering little production in his unofficial Lakers debut on Tuesday, Smart was considerably better on Friday. Eight of his 11 shot attempts came from beyond the arc, an area where the veteran guard has been inconsistent for most of his NBA career. The hope for the Lakers is that Smart can shoot as well as he did in 15 games for the Wizards last season, making just over 39 percent of his attempts. Playing alongside Luka Dončić, Austin Reaves and (when healthy) LeBron James should help get Smart clean looks. However, given the career numbers, he’s a career 32.4 percent shooter from deep, so the chances he approaches 40 percent from three are slim.

Smart suited up for the Lakers for the first time, and he didn’t contribute much of anything in the box score. He was a nice veteran addition for Los Angeles, but his first appearance wasn’t an encouraging one for fantasy managers. His only opportunity to provide value this season may be as a streamer if the Lakers are missing multiple starters.

Smart’s Lakers deal will include a player option for 2026, according to Charania, which would allow him to test free agency. The 31-year-old point guard was pursued by the Lakers, Bucks and Suns once the Wizards granted him permission to explore other options. An 11-year NBA veteran, Smart spent nine years with the Celtics before spending time with the Grizzlies and Wizards over the last two seasons. Smart won the 2022 Defensive Player of the Year award and has been named to the All-Defensive first-team three times. In joining the Lakers, Smart not only is back on a contending team, but also has a clear path to significant playing time.

Smart did not play in Wednesday’s win over the Kings, as the Wizards relied mainly on Jordan Poole, Bub Carrington and AJ Johnson on the perimeter. Poole is unavailable for Thursday’s game, so rotation minutes will be available to Smart. However, fantasy managers should not expect to see him playing starters’ minutes; he has not surpassed 24 minutes in any of his appearances since being acquired from the Grizzlies in February.

Smart will not be available for Wednesday’s game, freeing up additional rotation minutes off the bench for Jaylen Martin. Some of the minutes that would have gone to Smart may be absorbed by Julian Champagne, who is already in the starting lineup. There isn’t too much to gain from streaming Martin.

Smart will be back after missing Washington’s last two games. Jaylen Martin was able to enter the Wizards’ rotation with Smart sidelined, but he will likely lose out on minutes with Smart healthy and available. Martin wasn’t productive during his time in the rotation.
