    Recap

Marcus Smart recorded 13 points (4-of-9 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs), four rebounds, six assists, seven steals and three three-pointers in Monday’s win over the Hornets.

While Luka Dončić, Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura handled most of the scoring on Monday, Smart was a pest defensively. The veteran guard recorded seven steals, one shy of his career-high, while also providing solid value in the assist and three-point categories. Rostered in seven percent of Yahoo! leagues, Smart is closing in on top-100 value in nine-cat formats. While LeBron James (sciatica) is making progress in his recovery, streaming Smart in deep leagues for the final three games of the Lakers’ road trip wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Luka Dončić, Marcus Smart, Austin Reaves, Jarred Vanderbilt and Deandre Ayton will start Friday’s game against the Grizzlies.

Dončić and Smart are back from injury, and both will be in the starting lineup. In the latter’s case, he’s likely to take on the assignment of defending Grizzlies star Ja Morant. Reaves, Vanderbilt and Ayton are the holdovers for the Lakers, who have won two of their last three games.

    Injury

ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reports that Marcus Smart (quad) is probable for Friday’s matchup with Memphis.

Smart missed Los Angeles’ last two games after injuring his quad on Sunday, and he should be back on the court after a brief absence. Smart’s return coincides with Luka Doncic’s, and the Lakers simply don’t have enough touches to go around for Smart to be a viable option in most fantasy leagues.

    Injury

Marcus Smart (quad) is questionable for Friday’s game against the Grizzlies.

Smart injured his quad during Sunday’s win over the Kings and missed the following two games as a result. While he may return on Friday, that’s also the case for Luka Dončić, who’s questionable with finger and leg injuries. There’s no need to roster Smart in fantasy leagues if he’s available to play against the Grizzlies.

Marcus Smart (quad) has been ruled out against the Timberwolves on Wednesday.

This will be a second consecutive absence for Smart, who injured his quad against the Kings on Sunday. Jake LaRavia got the starting nod in his place on Monday and should remain in that role against the Wolves. However, Dalton Knecht ended up playing much better than LaRavia off the bench and should have a chance to take on extra minutes.

Marcus Smart (quad) is questionable for Wednesday’s game against the Timberwolves.

Smart suffered a right quad contusion during the second half of Sunday’s win over the Kings and missed the following night’s loss to Portland. Austin Reaves slid into the starting point guard role against the Trail Blazers, with Jake LaRavia moving into the starting lineup. Expect the same if Smart can’t play on Wednesday.

Marcus Smart (quad) has been ruled out against the Trail Blazers on Monday.

Smart injured his quad during the second half of Sunday’s win over the Kings, which ended his night a but early. That will keep him sidelined for the second leg of the Lakers’ back-to-back. Smart started that game with Luka Doncic sidelined, so Jake LaRavia or Dalton Knecht could replace Smart for this game.

    Recap

Marcus Smart recorded 11 points (3-of-8 FGs, 5-of-6 FTs), three rebounds, and five assists in Sunday’s win over the Kings.

As expected, Smart was Lakers head coach JJ Redick’s choice to replace the injured Luka Dončić in the starting lineup. And there weren’t any surprises regarding the veteran guard’s production. Smart didn’t have a great night shooting the basketball, but the foul line boosted his point total, and he dished out five assists with just one turnover. The Lakers play four games during Week 2, and Dončić won’t be re-evaluated until before the last contest. Smart isn’t a must-add; fantasy managers would be better off with Rui Hachimura, even if he isn’t a point guard.

Marcus Smart, Gabe Vincent, Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura and Deandre Ayton will start Sunday’s game against the Kings.

The Lakers are without Luka Dončić for Sunday’s game. He will miss at least one week with finger and leg injuries. He’ll be replaced in the starting lineup by Smart, a solid defender whose offensive production tends to be inconsistent. However, given the Lakers’ lack of options, he’s worth a look in deeper fantasy leagues. Also worth a look is Hachimura, who remains available in over 75 percent of Yahoo! leagues.

    Recap

Marcus Smart shot 5-of-11 from the field and 2-of-2 from the foul line in Friday’s loss to the Kings, scoring 14 points with three rebounds, two assists, four steals and two three-pointers.

After offering little production in his unofficial Lakers debut on Tuesday, Smart was considerably better on Friday. Eight of his 11 shot attempts came from beyond the arc, an area where the veteran guard has been inconsistent for most of his NBA career. The hope for the Lakers is that Smart can shoot as well as he did in 15 games for the Wizards last season, making just over 39 percent of his attempts. Playing alongside Luka Dončić, Austin Reaves and (when healthy) LeBron James should help get Smart clean looks. However, given the career numbers, he’s a career 32.4 percent shooter from deep, so the chances he approaches 40 percent from three are slim.

    Recap

Marcus Smart made his preseason debut for the Lakers on Tuesday and contributed one assist in 20 minutes against the Suns.

Smart suited up for the Lakers for the first time, and he didn’t contribute much of anything in the box score. He was a nice veteran addition for Los Angeles, but his first appearance wasn’t an encouraging one for fantasy managers. His only opportunity to provide value this season may be as a streamer if the Lakers are missing multiple starters.

    Transaction

ESPN’s Shams Charania reports Marcus Smart has agreed to a contract buyout with the Wizards and intends to sign a two-year, $11 million deal with the Lakers.

Smart’s Lakers deal will include a player option for 2026, according to Charania, which would allow him to test free agency. The 31-year-old point guard was pursued by the Lakers, Bucks and Suns once the Wizards granted him permission to explore other options. An 11-year NBA veteran, Smart spent nine years with the Celtics before spending time with the Grizzlies and Wizards over the last two seasons. Smart won the 2022 Defensive Player of the Year award and has been named to the All-Defensive first-team three times. In joining the Lakers, Smart not only is back on a contending team, but also has a clear path to significant playing time.

Marcus Smart (finger) is off the injury report for Thursday’s game against the Magic.

Smart did not play in Wednesday’s win over the Kings, as the Wizards relied mainly on Jordan Poole, Bub Carrington and AJ Johnson on the perimeter. Poole is unavailable for Thursday’s game, so rotation minutes will be available to Smart. However, fantasy managers should not expect to see him playing starters’ minutes; he has not surpassed 24 minutes in any of his appearances since being acquired from the Grizzlies in February.

Marcus Smart (finger) is out for Wednesday’s game against the Kings.

Smart will not be available for Wednesday’s game, freeing up additional rotation minutes off the bench for Jaylen Martin. Some of the minutes that would have gone to Smart may be absorbed by Julian Champagne, who is already in the starting lineup. There isn’t too much to gain from streaming Martin.

Marcus Smart (illness) is available to play against the Nets on Saturday.

Smart will be back after missing Washington’s last two games. Jaylen Martin was able to enter the Wizards’ rotation with Smart sidelined, but he will likely lose out on minutes with Smart healthy and available. Martin wasn’t productive during his time in the rotation.

Marcus Smart (illness) is questionable for Saturday’s game against the Nets.

Smart has missed Washington’s last two games, resulting in Jaylen Martin moving into the rotation. Martin has not been productive enough to merit being streamed in most leagues, so Smart’s return would not significantly impact fantasy basketball.

Marcus Smart (illness) and Kyshawn George (ankle) are out for Thursday’s game against the Pacers.

Thursday’s game will be the second that Smart and George have missed with their respective injuries, and the latter’s absence is more impactful on fantasy basketball. Justin Champagnie filled in for George in Wednesday’s win over the 76ers and should remain in the starting lineup, making him a streamable player in deep leagues. As for Smart, his continued absence means more playing time for AJ Johnson, who will likely come off the bench with Khris Middleton returning from a one-game absence.

Marcus Smart (finger) has been ruled out for Wednesday’s game against the 76ers.

Smart has missed several games between a finger injury and an illness in March. His absence will likely give AJ Johnson a chance to get a heavy workload off the bench against Philadelphia. Johnson had 17 points, six rebounds, three assists and a steal in 28 minutes in Washington’s last game.

    Recap

Marcus Smart amassed 17 points (6-of-11 FGs, 1-of-3 FTs), four rebounds, three assists, two steals, one block and four three-pointers in 24 minutes in Saturday’s loss to the Knicks.

Smart got going after halftime, shooting 5-of-10 from the field to help the Wizards trim a 33-point deficit down to four before losing. While availability issues make the veteran guard difficult to rely on in fantasy basketball, he can provide value when playing rotation minutes. Smart logged 24 minutes on Saturday, which has been his unofficial cap since joining the Wizards. While Washington plays four games during Week 21, there’s also a back-to-back, likely limiting Smart to three appearances.

Marcus Smart (illness) has been ruled out against the Trail Blazers on Monday.

Smart will miss a second-straight game with an illness, and rookie AJ Johnson filled the backup guard minutes off the bench on Saturday. Johnson played well in 18 minutes, but that isn’t enough time for him to provide standard league value. Fellow rookies Bub Carrington and Kyshawn George are better options.

Marcus Smart (illness) is questionable for Monday’s game against the Trail Blazers.

Smart was a late scratch for Saturday’s win over the Nuggets. His absence freed up rotation minutes for AJ Johnson, who finished with nine points, two rebounds, four assists, two steals, and one three-pointer in 18 minutes. If Smart remains out, Johnson will not be a player worth adding; fantasy managers will be better off targeting Bub Carrington or Kyshawn George.

    Recap

Marcus Smart led the Wizards with 16 points (6-of-10 FGs), two rebounds, two assists, one block and two three-pointers in a 123-103 loss to the Pistons on Tuesday.

Smart hasn’t been able to contribute much fantasy value since arriving in Washington, but he has been a decent scoring option off the bench at times. He had his highest-scoring game as a Wizard and his highest-scoring game since December on Tuesday, though it wasn’t enough for Washington to get the win. Smart has contributed more as a locker room veteran for Washington than he has as a fantasy asset, and that likely won’t change this season. Still, it was nice to see him have some success in this game.
