ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that Trail Blazers assistant Tiago Splitter will assume the head coaching position in the interim in place of Chauncey Billups.

Billups was arrested by the FBI on Thursday as part of a larger investigation into illegal gambling activity. There is no timeline yet for how long Billups might be away from the team, but it’s safe to assume that Splitter will be running the show for an extended period of time. The seven-year NBA veteran transitioned to coaching in 2019 when he was an assistant in Brooklyn for four seasons. He then spent a year as an assistant in Houston before joining Portland’s staff. Splitter also serves as the head coach of Paris Basketball and has won a pair of league championships. For now, there is no reason to assume the Trail Blazers will make any meaningful changes to their scheme or rotations.
