Wagner played only 23 minutes, but was very efficient with 25 points on 13 attempts from the field. Injuries limited the 24-year-old small forward to just 33 games this season, so it’s certainly a positive to see him finishing out the season healthy and productive. Orlando will close out the regular season on Sunday against Boston.

Wagner shot the ball well on Wednesday, but of greater concern for him and the Magic was his third-quarter left knee injury. The good news is that Franz returned to action later in the quarter, finishing with 22 minutes played. However, given the amount of time he missed due to the high left ankle sprain suffered in early December, the last thing the Magic needed was to see Wagner injured again. It would be unsurprising if his minutes remained limited for the final two games of the regular season.

Monday’s game is Orlando’s second in as many nights, so Wagner’s sitting is not a major surprise. His absence means a return to the starting lineup for Tristan da Silva, who is worth rostering in active fantasy leagues.

Wagner scored the ball well in his 17 minutes of game action. He was aggressive, getting up 12 shots in that time, and was productive on the glass during his minutes. Arguably, the only thing that truly didn’t go his way on Friday was the three-point shooting, which hasn’t been a strength to this point in his career. Nonetheless, the fifth-year forward has shown encouraging signs as he continues to knock off the rust before the regular season ends. Given his low workload in his return from injury, it’s hard to know what kind of production to expect from him during the fantasy playoffs.

Available to play for the first time since February 11, Wagner logged 20 minutes as part of the Magic starting lineup. The rust was most evident in his perimeter shot, with Wagner missing all six of his three-point attempts. Tristan da Silva, a fixture in the starting lineup while Wagner was out, played 23 minutes off the bench and finished with nine points (2-of-5 FGs, 5-of-5 FTs), two rebounds, six assists and one steal. Orlando has games on Friday and Sunday, with the second being the first of two in as many nights. We’ll see if Wagner gets one or two more games during championship week in Yahoo! default leagues.

Wagner, who last appeared in a game just before the All-Star break, is officially available for Wednesday’s game. He was used in a reserve role the last time he returned after an extended absence, so Tristan da Silva could remain with the starters for another game. And even if he doesn’t, the Magic are still without Anthony Black, so da Silva’s minutes should not take too significant of a hit.

Wagner hasn’t played since before the All-Star break and has only suited up four times since Dec. 8. Reports from Tuesday indicated that Wagner has progressed to 5-on-5, and it appears that he could be making his return against Atlanta. If he is back, Tristan da Silva will likely head back to the bench, though Wagner did come off the bench and played limited minutes in his two most recent appearances, so da Silva could maintain the role if they choose to do the same thing. Orlando is currently eighth in the East with seven games remaining in the regular season. Having Wagner healthy for the postseason will make them a difficult matchup for anyone.

Wagner and Black are progressing in their recoveries, but neither has reached the point where they can play in games. Tristan da Silva remains a player who should be rostered in 12-team leagues, as he has served as Orlando’s fifth starter with Wagner and Black sidelined.

While Wagner did not do much during Thursday’s shootaround in preparation for Orlando’s matchup with Sacramento, he did respond well to a recent contact session, according to Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley. It has been over a month since the forward was shut down due to a need for additional time and rehabilitation to recover from a high ankle sprain suffered in December. With many fantasy leagues concluding in Week 23, if not sooner, the chances of Wagner having an impact are slim. Tristan da Silva remains a worthwhile hold in 14-team leagues, and some 12-team leagues as well.

Shams notes that “recent tests showed that he requires additional time and rehabilitation for soreness in his left high ankle sprain. The Magic will evaluate Wagner’s progress in three weeks.” With the NBA and fantasy basketball seasons drawing to a close, a three-week timeline for re-evaluation puts serious doubt on Wagner’s availability after he is cleared and begins ramping back up. This is a massive blow for Orlando and Wagner’s fantasy managers. Anthony Black should continue to soak up minutes, and he should be rostered everywhere. Black has made the most of his new opportunities and is enjoying a breakout campaign.

Monday’s game was just Wagner’s third since initially spraining his left ankle during a December 7 loss to the Knicks, and his minutes were handled accordingly. He played 17 minutes against the Bucks, with the Magic bringing Franz off the bench. That could be the approach taken in Wednesday’s rematch, with Wagner being allowed to do more after the All-Star break.

Wagner last played on January 18, but he’ll make his return after three weeks on the sideline. He may face a minutes restriction in his first game back, but Wagner’s return will likely mean less playing time for Anthony Black.

On Thursday, Magic president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman said that Wagner was “very close” to returning. Monday could be that day, as he’s listed as questionable on the injury report. The only question is whether he’ll start immediately, likely bumping Anthony Black to the bench, or come off the bench upon being cleared to play. Managers who have rostered Black should not drop him if he’s moved to the bench.

Wagner has appeared in only two games since suffering a high left ankle sprain during a December 7 game against the Knicks. Getting him back will give Orlando a much-needed boost on the playmaking front. With Wagner already out for Thursday’s game against the Nets, the next opportunity for him to play would be on Saturday against the Jazz. While Anthony Black may be the player who heads to the bench, he’s worth holding onto in 12-team leagues.

Monday’s game will be the third that Wagner has missed, with the description being changed from “left ankle soreness” to “high left ankle sprain injury management.” Before Saturday’s loss to the Cavaliers, Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley said Wagner did some light, non-contact shooting during the pregame shootaround. As long as Wagner is out, Anthony Black will start, and he should be rostered in standard leagues.

Wagner will miss a second straight game after playing just two games following a 16-game absence. Anthony Black will remain a starter despite Jalen Suggs (knee) being upgraded to probable. They’ll continue to manage this injury as he recovers, but it is slightly alarming that he will miss two games this quickly. Black has been productive as a fill-in.

This is mildly concerning, considering how much time Wagner missed with an ankle injury over the holidays. The team “is going to monitor how he responds to treatment moving forward,” which will determine how long Wagner will be sidelined. Tristan Da Silva should move back into the starting lineup in the meantime.

After missing 16 games with a high ankle sprain, Wagner was back on the court Thursday afternoon in his hometown of Berlin. While the stat line did not include any steals or blocks, the rebounds and three-pointers were solid. Also encouraging for fantasy managers was his playing 27 minutes in his first game back. Wagner’s return meant fewer minutes for Noah Penda (nine points, five rebounds, two assists, one block and one three-pointer in 18 minutes), who is more valuable to dynasty leagues than redrafts.

Wagner has missed 16 straight games, but the German forward will be back in action for this international matchup. Tristan da Silva should see a reduction in playing time and usage, but Wagner may be on a minutes restriction after so much time on the sideline. Anthony Black is worth holding, as he has played well enough to remain in the rotation regardless of Wagner’s health.

Wagner has missed Orlando’s last nine games with a left high ankle sprain. He’s been replaced in the starting lineup by Anthony Black, and that should remain the case for the foreseeable future. Black is worth picking up, as he has provided top-50 per-game value over the past two weeks.
