Watkins saved his best for last, recording a season-high point total in the final game of his rookie campaign. He shot 5-of-9 from beyond the arc, with the five makes also a season high for the athletic forward. Watkins is on a two-way deal, so he faces a critical summer in terms of solidifying his place in the NBA.

He hasn’t been on the radar of fantasy managers this season, and for good reason, given his lackluster production. However, the rookie’s defensive activity makes him capable of having games like Thursday, where he can do a little bit of everything. Watkins played 27 minutes against the Pistons, matching his season-high in steals and recording a new high in blocks. Add in the rebounds and assists, and this was a solid performance as far as category leagues are concerned. However, this does not make Watkins a player worth adding.

Watkins is back after a four-game absence, which led to more rotation minutes for Leaky Black. Neither player is worth the risk in redraft leagues, but there should be playing time available to both due to Kyshawn George’s elbow injury.

Watkins’ continued absence means there will be a spot in the rotation for Leaky Black, who started and played 31 minutes in Sunday’s loss to the Pelicans. While he isn’t a must-add player, Black is worth watching due to his recent workload.

The second-round rookie and summer league standout didn’t see much playing time early on, but he has taken on a larger role over the past month. He has scored in double figures in five straight games, though he wasn’t able to supply his typical dose of steals. Watkins should continue to play a significant role for the remainder of the season, and his impact has been consistent recently. He may be a productive option during silly season.

As expected, the Wizards will not have Khris Middleton on Monday, as it is the team’s second game in as many nights. However, it will be Watkins who replaces him in the starting lineup and not Justin Champagnie. Both players should play plenty, especially with Johnson still under a minutes restriction. Sarr’s minutes will also be restricted, meaning a bit more playing time for Marvin Bagley III off the bench.

While Justin Champagnie is available for Thursday’s game, he has been bumped from the Wizards’ starting lineup in favor of Watkins. A second-round pick, the rookie wing will make his first NBA start. Watkins’ offensive ceiling is relatively low, but he may be able to pick up some defensive stats for those who have him in dynasty leagues.
