Though he was elite to start the season, Wemby’s last few games have been rough. Over the last four games, he has shot just 39.7 percent from the floor while averaging 17 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.0 steal and 2.5 blocks per game. Of course, for most players, those are strong numbers. But it’s the inefficiency that has torn down his recent production; Wemby is also averaging five turnovers during this four-game stretch. He’ll look to get back on track in Chicago on Monday.

Wemby cracked the 20-point mark for the first time in November after struggling with his shooting over the previous couple of games. He didn’t post a dominant stat line, but was efficient as a shooter while making contributions across several other statistical categories. Fantasy managers may still be waiting for Wembanyama to return to his early-season form when he was posting MVP-like numbers, but his increased production on Friday was a positive sign nonetheless.

Wembanyama was kept in check for the second straight game, as the Lakers were able to get him into early foul trouble. That appeared to upset the 7-foot-4 phenom’s rhythm, despite the final point total. As was the case for the Suns on Sunday, the Lakers were aggressive in their approach to defending Wembanyama, and they relentlessly attacked the paint when he was on the bench. Wemby and the Spurs return home for a Friday/Saturday back-to-back against the Rockets and Pelicans to end the week.

To say the Suns may have provided the rest of the NBA with the “blueprint” to defending Wembanyama would be an overstatement. However, they were excellent on Sunday, showing the 7-foot-3 phenom a variety of defensive looks. Traditional centers and wings like Royce O’Neale all had opportunities to guard Wembanyama, who was crowded on most of his touches. No matter how great the player, there’s no immunity to the occasional bad night. Wembanyama will look to bounce back when the Spurs visit the Lakers on Wednesday.

Wembanyama and his teammates made franchise history on Thursday, becoming the first team to start a regular season with five consecutive wins. He’s lived up to the preseason hype and then some personally, sitting atop the fantasy rankings in eight- and nine-cat formats. Wemby has blocked at least five shots in three of San Antonio’s first five games and has recorded a double-double in all five. San Antonio hits the road for its final game of Week 2, at Phoenix on Sunday.

Wemby wasn’t able to provide his usual dominant dose of blocks, and he didn’t attempt a three-pointer, but that didn’t stop him from having an insane night in the box score. He was perfect at the line and only missed one shot, which was great to see after he made less than 50 percent of his shots and missed five free throws on Sunday. Wemby has been the best player in fantasy basketball early on this season, and he’ll look to add another dominant night to his resume against the Heat on Thursday.

Wembanyama’s percentages on the final game day of Week 1 weren’t great, but that doesn’t matter much given the robust stat line. Once again, he filled out the stat sheet, including nine “stocks,” to help the Spurs avoid losing a game they led by as much as 26 before the Nets rallied. Even on nights when his shots aren’t falling at a high rate, Wembanyama will provide elite value because of his abilities as a rebounder and defender. He’s the first player in NBA history to tally at least 100 points and 15 blocks through a team’s first three games. Denver’s Nikola Jokić has been the gold standard for fantasy centers in recent years, but he’s got company at the top of the list this season.

Prior to fouling out in overtime, Wemby was unreal in this game. He wasn’t able to match his 40 points from their win over Dallas on Wednesday, but he was able to record another double-double and was close to recording a triple-double with blocks, which serves as a reminder as to why he is the heavy-favorite to take home the Defensive Player of the Year award this season. Wemby will look to close out this week with another dominant performance against the Nets on Sunday.

With the last two Rookie of the Year award winners and this season’s presumed favorite to win the floor on the court, all eyes were on American Airlines Arena. Wembanyama stole the show, as the Mavericks had no answer for him defensively. Whether it was above the rim, in the mid-range or from beyond the arc, Wemby did what he wanted Wednesday night, finishing with a franchise record for points in a season opener. The 7-foot-4 phenom played 30 minutes before exiting with just under five minutes remaining, and his workload should increase as he gets further removed from the injury that ended his 2024-25 season in February. The rest of the NBA was probably already on notice; Wednesday’s performance was another sign that Wemby’s already one of the league’s best and most dominant players.

Friday’s exhibition was the last for the Spurs before the regular season begins next week, and Wembanyama looked sharp. He only missed two shots from the field and recorded a complete stat line, playing 24 minutes. Given how his 2024-25 season ended, the most essential thing for Wemby was to shake off the rust and remain healthy. Wembanyama did that, showing why he should be considered with Nikola Jokić for pick 1.1 in fantasy league drafts.

On the heels of an impressive 22-point outing on Friday against the Jazz, Wembanyama had an even more dominant performance on Monday. In his most preseason minutes yet, the former first-overall pick tallied preseason-highs in points and rebounds, needing just 13 shot attempts to nearly reach 30 points. Wemby did his job, as usual, on the defensive end and came up with four stocks to round out a great performance overall. He’ll be in play for the number one pick in fantasy drafts.

After two modest efforts in San Antonio’s first two preseason games, Wembanyama showed the offensive repertoire that makes him one of the top options in fantasy basketball on Friday. The Jazz did not have an answer for the third-year center, who shot 60 percent from the field and attempted 10 free throws. Wembanyama did not record any defensive stats, which is infrequent for him. Wemby appears ready for the start of the regular season.

Wembanyama did a little bit of everything in his first preseason game, showcasing why he’s projected to be one of the top players selected across fantasy leagues this season. The third-year center logged his first game minutes on Monday since his sophomore season ended in February due to a blood clot that formed in his right shoulder. In his return to action, he registered 16 minutes and looked to be moving as well as usual. If health is not a concern, Wembanyama could build on a strong first couple of seasons.

Deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder limited Wemby to just 46 appearances in Year 2. The superstar big man has been phenomenal through his first two NBA seasons, and fantasy managers should expect more of the same for the 2025-26 season, assuming there are no additional health issues. He should be a consensus top-3 pick in upcoming fantasy basketball drafts.
