Robbins claims that “the plan is for [Young] to rehab his ankle in-house” and take his time returning to the court. The Wizards then anticipate Young picking up his $49 million player option for 2026, at which time they will see how well he fits alongside young players like Alex Sarr and Kyshawn George. Slow-playing Young this season makes sense, considering the Wizards’ first-round pick is top-eight-protected. That means that, if the Wizards lose enough games to pick inside the top eight in the 2026 NBA Draft, they will keep their pick, but if they pick outside of the top eight, the New York Knicks will control the rights to the Wizards’ pick.

Rumors had been heating up, and now it’s official. Young will head to Washington after appearing in just 10 games during his eighth season with the Hawks. Young will be reunited with Travis Schlenk, who drafted Trae in 2018 and is now an executive with the Wizards. The Wizards will have the rest of this season and, assuming he opts into his contract for next year, all of next season to decide if they want to keep Young around. It was a low-cost move for Washington, and they added a former All-NBA player that led the NBA in assists last season. If they’re able to add another top pick in the draft this season, the Wizards will have one of the best young cores in the NBA and a star point guard to help facilitate things on offense. Plus, Washington has enough length to make up for Young’s defensive limitations. Trae has been sidelined recently with a quad injury, but that could certainly heal up quickly now that he’s on a new team.

With trade rumors swirling, Young has missed the last five games with a right quad contusion. Nickeil Alexander-Walker, who should already be rostered in most leagues, will start until Young is cleared to return.

Monday’s game will be the fifth that Young has missed, meaning that Nickeil Alexander-Walker will remain in the starting lineup. Also, Young’s absence means that the ball will be in Jalen Johnson’s hands more, raising his already-high fantasy ceiling.

This will be a fourth straight absence for Young, and he was immediately ruled out instead of being listed as questionable initially. It’s unclear how much longer he’ll remain sidelined, but Nickeil Alexander-Walker will remain in the starting lineup for at least one more game.

This will be a third straight absence for Young, who is now dealing with a quad injury after missing time with a knee injury. Nickeil Alexander-Walker should remain in the starting unit and remain an excellent option for fantasy managers.

Young has missed Atlanta’s last two games, with Nickeil Alexander-Walker filling the resulting void in the starting lineup. NAW, who has standard-league value when Young plays, should be rostered regardless of what happens with Atlanta’s starting point guard.

Young sat out Monday, and he’ll be out for a second straight game. Nickeil Alexander-Walker is expected to remain in the starting lineup. He posted a monster 30/4/5/2/1 line with six triples on Monday against the Thunder.

Young missed Monday’s game and could be another with this quad contusion. Nickeil Alexander-Walker started in his place and would remain a starter if Young is held out. NAW has been excellent as a starter all season and would get the chance to play extra minutes against his former team.

Young played through his quad injury on Saturday, but he’ll be forced to miss at least one game when he sits out on Monday. With Young unavailable, Nickeil Alexander-Walker should earn a spot start against the Thunder, making him worthy of streaming, albeit in a tough matchup.

Young’s right quad contusion landed him on the injury report ahead of Saturday’s loss ot the Knicks. While he did play, the Hawks’ point guard struggled for most of the night. If Young can’t play against the reigning champs, Nickeil Alexander-Walker will be tasked with the starting point guard responsibilities.

Despite a right quad contusion and Saturday’s game being the second in as many nights for the Hawks, Young will be in the starting lineup. Nickeil Alexander-Walker will miss out on a move into the starting five, but he plays enough to merit being rostered in 12-team leagues.

Young is dealing with a right thigh contusion, but is likely to be available against the Knicks given his probable status Saturday despite it being the second game of a back-to-back. The 27-year-old point guard had 30 points and five three-pointers in Friday’s loss to the Heat.

Young has scored at least 30 points in two of the four games he’s played since returning from a knee injury, so fantasy managers have to be pleased with the output. Unfortunately, the Hawks dropped to 0-4 with Friday’s defeat, which will likely prompt some to make (lazy) assumptions about Young’s impact. And while he was responsible for four turnovers, Young’s assist-to-turnover ratio (40 assists, 10 turnovers) has been excellent since returning to action. He did not play the second game of Atlanta’s most recent back-to-back, so Young should be considered questionable for Saturday’s game against the Knicks.

Through three games since returning from an MCL sprain, Young has played 20, 26 and 31 minutes. His season high for minutes allowed him to have his second-most assists in a game this season, with the most coming in his final game before injuring his knee. He had 17 assists in that game, which was also against Chicago. Young is getting closer to playing a full workload consistently, and the most impressive part is that he has a total of six turnovers since returning. Last season, he averaged 4.7 per game. It seems unlikely that he’ll continue to keep the turnovers in check, but if he can at least keep them down, he’ll become far more valuable in category formats.

Young showed few signs of rust in just his second game back since October 29 due to a knee injury, heating up down the home stretch of a high-scoring slugfest. He buried a clutch three-pointer with 23 seconds remaining to pull it back to a one-possession game, then had a chance to force overtime on the final shot of regulation, but his fallaway 16-footer came up short. It’s possible Atlanta will keep a governor on his workload for the next few games but he remains an elite scoring threat even in that scenario. The Hawks are back in action on Tuesday with a rematch against the Bulls before facing the Heat and Knicks to close out a three-game week.

Young did not play in Friday’s loss to the Spurs, which was Atlanta’s second game in as many nights. His return means that Nickeil Alexander-Walker will head back to the bench, but NAW should still be rostered in 12-team leagues.

No surprise here after Young returned from a knee injury and played 20 minutes against the Hornets on Thursday. The Hawks will give the 27-year-old point guard the night off for right knee injury management reasons rather than put him back on the floor for the second game of a back-to-back. Young’s next chance to play will come Sunday against the Bulls. Dyson Daniels and Jalen Johnson will have more playmaking responsibilities in his absence Friday.

Young was understandably a little rusty in his first game action since October 29. The 27-year-old point guard’s shooting was just a little off as he went 3-of-8 from the field including 0-of-5 from behind the three-point line. Young’s playmaking ability was still apparent as he dished out 10 assists. He played 20 minutes, though that will increase in future games. The Hawks play the Spurs on Friday and the Bulls on Sunday, giving Young multiple chances to see his minutes increase this week.

Youn will be back on the court for the first time since October 29, and he’ll surely face a minutes restriction after such a long layoff. Young’s return may cut into the production of Nickeil Alexander-Walker, but NAW is a hold until Young ramps back up. Dyson Daniels and Jalen Johnson could see their touches and usage drop as well.

Recalled from the Hawks’ G League affiliate on Wednesday morning, Young’s status for Thursday night has been upgraded. His availability affects multiple players, starting with Nickeil Alexander-Walker. While there will come a point when he returns to a reserve role, NAW will play enough to merit being rostered in standard leagues. Also, Jalen Johnson and Dyson Daniels will likely see their respective usage rates decrease once Young is a full go.

Young was assigned to the G League for a practice on Tuesday and has now been recalled to Atlanta, with the team set to practice on Wednesday. If Young’s knee responds well to a practice with the team, he could certainly make a return this weekend. They have a back-to-back on Thursday and Friday, so he’d likely only play in one of those games if he’s made available by then. If not, they host the Bulls on Sunday. Young may have his minutes limited in his first game back, but he has never come off the bench in his career, so Nickeil Alexander-Walker will likely return to a reserve role when the time comes. However, NAW saw plenty of usage early on before Young’s injury, so having Trae back in the lineup shouldn’t decimate his value. However, NAW, Dyson Daniels and Jalen Johnson will all take a slight usage hit when last season’s assists leader returns.

Young has been sidelined since October, and the expectation is that he will return this month. This move lines up with that and could indicate that Young is getting close to returning. Depending on how he responds to practicing with Atlanta’s G League affiliate, he could be back with the Hawks this weekend. They play on Thursday, Friday and Sunday this week, and there isn’t a clear target date at this point, but there is certainly a chance. When he returns, Nickeil Alexander-Walker will likely return to a reserve role when Young returns.

Shams notes that, “Hawks star Trae Young, who sustained a sprained MCL on Oct. 29, is optimistic about returning to action this month. The Hawks have gone 12-8 without Young in the lineup, and they believe his fit with a rising core in Jalen Johnson, Dyson Daniels, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Zaccharie Risacher and Onyeka Okongwu will elevate the team.” It’s an encouraging update, but there is still no clear timeline for Young’s return. Fantasy managers should continue monitoring his status.

Young is dealing with an MCL sprain in his right knee. It was reported that he’d be re-evaluated in four weeks at the beginning of the month, but now it’ll be another two weeks before there’s an update on the 27-year-old point guard’s health. While Young was able to avoid an ACL injury and any structural damage to his knee, he’s set to miss a solid portion of the season.

Young injured his right knee during Wednesday’s win over the Nets, as a teammate fell into the side of his right leg after being pushed by a Nets player. While he did avoid an ACL injury or any significant structural damage, Young did suffer a sprained MCL and will miss at least four weeks. Nickeil Alexander-Walker has replaced him in the starting lineup and should be rostered wherever he’s available. Luke Kennard may get more opportunities to contribute off the bench, but he’s only worth targeting where there’s a need for points and three-pointers.

Young will miss a second straight game since injuring his right knee during Wednesday’s win over the Nets. The Hawks still have not provided an update on the severity of the injury or how much time Young will miss, but he won’t be available on Sunday. The game against the Cavaliers is the last of the Hawks’ current road trip, so the team may be waiting until they return to Atlanta to provide an official timeline. Nickeil Alexander-Walker will replace Young in the starting lineup and is worth adding in standard leagues.

Young was due to undergo an MRI on Thursday after spraining his right knee during Wednesday’s win over the Nets, but those results have not been made public. At a minimum, he will miss Friday’s game against the Pacers, likely resulting in Nickeil Alexander-Walker moving into the starting lineup. NAW is worth adding not only for Friday, but to account for Young potentially missing multiple games. Luke Kennard and Keaton Wallace may also take on expanded roles against Indiana.

Hawks head coach Quin Snyder said after Wednesday’s win over the Nets that Young doesn’t have an issue with the ACL in his right knee, but an MRI will determine the severity of his injury. Young was injured during the second quarter when a teammate fell into the outside of his right leg. While he tried to remain in the game, Young eventually headed to the locker room and did not return. Nickeil Alexander-Walker started the third quarter and will likely move into the starting five if Young misses time. In this scenario, he and Luke Kennard are worth a look in deeper leagues.
