Fox fell one assist shy of a double-double, but he was still able to make a big impact on offense. He was quiet in the first three games of the series, but he got things going on offense over the last two, with averages of 24.5 points, 8.0 assists and 3.0 triples while shooting 61.3 percent from the floor. It is good to see him figure things out before the second round, which will be against either the Nuggets or the Timberwolves, depending on how that series finishes.

Wembanyama didn’t do much scoring in this game, but he was still able to make a monster impact. He dominated that glass and continued to swat plenty of shots; over the final two games of this series, Wemby recorded 13 blocks. Clearly, the concussion doesn’t seem to be bothering him, and with this series over, he’ll get some extra time to get back to full strength before the second round beings. They’ll await the winners of the Nuggets-Timberwolves series.

Champagnie got off to a hot start, scoring 14 points in the first half alone. He didn’t contribute much after the break, but he was still able to have a strong night, which was enough to help the Spurs secure the win and advance to the second round. This was Champagnie’s first double-digit outing of the postseason, which was a nice boost, though he likely won’t continue to produce to this level consistently.

Castle appeared to injure his left hand during the second quarter of Game 4, but he was able to return after a brief stint on the bench. The second-year guard was especially effective setting up others, as he led the Spurs in assists and committed just one turnover. Castle and the Spurs now head home for Tuesday’s Game 5, with a win pushing them into the second round.

The Spurs outscored Portland by a 73-35 margin in the second half, and Fox played a major part in that. He scored 18 of his 28 points in the second half and also had a few key assists to Keldon Johnson (9/1/1/1 with one three-pointer) in the fourth quarter. Fox put up a complete stat line in Game 4, and he’ll look to do the same in Game 5 on Tuesday. The Spurs hold a 3-1 series lead, so Sunday may have been their last visit to Portland this season.

Back in the Spurs’ lineup after sitting out Friday’s Game 3 victory, Wembanyama showed why he was the unanimous winner of NBA Defensive Player of the Year honors. Thoroughly dominating his matchups with Portland’s centers, Donovan Clingan and Robert Williams, Wemby recorded four steals and seven blocks, and there were other shots that he managed to alter. Add in the double-double, and he helped the Spurs turn a 19-point deficit into a 21-point victory and a 3-1 series lead. Game 5 is on Tuesday.

The Spurs get their regular starting lineup back for Game 4, as Victor Wembanyama is returning from a concussion. Wemby, the Defensive Player of the Year, provides San Antonio with a major difference-maker on both ends of the floor. The Spurs will look to take a 3-1 series lead.

The Spurs will get back the NBA Defensive Player of the Year on Sunday following a one-game injury absence. Wembanyama has not taken the floor since exiting Game 2’s loss early after a scary fall to the floor. He’ll reclaim his starting spot from Luke Kornet as San Antonio looks to take a 3-1 series lead.

McLaughlin has not appeared in a game this series, but his absence has not affected the Spurs’ rotation. If available, Sunday’s game will likely have to get out of hand for the veteran guard to play meaningful minutes.

Injured during Game 2, Wembanyama remained in the league’s concussion protocol for Friday’s Game 3 victory in Portland. The good news is that he was on the bench with his teammates, and there’s now a chance that the MVP finalist returns on Sunday. If Wembanyama plays, Luke Kornet will head to the bench.

Still only 20, Harper became the youngest player in NBA history to score at least 25 points off the bench in a playoff game. He had 27 points and 10 rebounds as the Spurs took a 2-1 lead in the series. Harper and Stephon Castle combined for 60 points with Victor Wembanyama (concussion protocol) sidelined. The Spurs will take on the Trail Blazers in a pivotal Game 4 on Sunday.

Even without Victor Wembanyama (concussion protocol), the Spurs were able to win largely because of Castle. The 21-year-old point guard had 33 points and five assists as San Antonio took a 2-1 series advantage. Castle and the Spurs will be looking to take control of the series with a win in Game 4 on Sunday.

Wembanyama participated in shootaround on Friday and was listed as questionable, but ultimately ruled out for Game 3 against the Trail Blazers. It’s unclear how close he actually was to playing and if he might be available for Game 4 on Sunday. Luke Kornet has typically started when Wembanyama has missed time this season.

Wemby is in the concussion protocol, but his participation in Friday’s shootaround bodes well for his health. More information on his status should be available closer to tip-off. If Wembanyama is ultimately ruled out, Luke Kornet would presumably slot in as San Antonio’s starting center.

Wembanyama’s upgrade to questionable is an encouraging sign for the Defensive Player of the Year, who fell hard on his face in the Spurs’ Game 2 loss to the Blazers. If unable to play on Friday, Luke Kornet will likely be the starting center.

Two days after his teammate, Victor Wembanyama, won Defensive Player of the Year, Johnson now brings home the Sixth Man award. The honor highlights the seventh-year forward’s contributions and impact off the bench, averaging 13.2 points and 5.4 rebounds in all 82 regular-season games. He joins Manu Ginobili as the only Spurs players to win the award.

Wembanyama took a hard fall and landed on his face early in Game 2’s loss to the Trail Blazer. The 22-year-old center entered the concussion protocol and was diagnosed with a concussion. He must now have at least 48 hours of inactivity before clearing several benchmarks while being symptom-free before he is cleared to play again. Wembanyama could still miss multiple games before returning. Luke Kornet should fill in while Wembanyama is sidelined.

Victor Wembanyama carried the Spurs offense in Game 1’s victory with 35 points, but left Game 2 early with a concussion. In his absence, none of the other Spurs starters stepped up the scoring. Castle, De’Aaron Fox and Devin Vassell combined to shoot 19-of-52 from the field in Game 2 and no Spurs player eclipsed 20 points. With Wembanyama potentially set to miss more time in this series, someone else on the Spurs will need to score more points.

Wembanyama took a hard fall and landed on his face while diving for a loose ball in the first half of Game 2 against the Trail Blazers on Tuesday. The 22-year-old center headed to the locker room and entered the concussion protocol, according to a report from Charania. Wembanyama won’t return to Game 2 and if it’s determined that he suffered a concussion, he could miss more time in this series. Luke Kornet should see more minutes if that’s the case.

Not only did Wembanyama win his first Defensive Player of the Year award, but he did so in dominant fashion. The Spurs’ center became the franchise’s first winner since Kawhi Leonard in 2016, and he received every first-place vote. Wembanyama is the first to win the award unanimously since its creation in 1982-83, and he’s also the youngest winner. This is likely to be the first of many Defensive Player of the Year awards for Wembanyama, who is also a finalist for league MVP. Oklahoma City’s Chet Holmgren and Detroit’s Ausar Thompson rounded out the top three.

Fox’s playoff debut with the Spurs was an impressive one. The veteran guard led the team in assists during his time on the floor, and shot the basketball well enough to finish as one of the top scorers. Perhaps most impressively, Fox’s offensive contributions came without giving the ball away to the defense. He was under control throughout, and it helped San Antonio cruise to a comfortable Game 1 win.

Castle was one of many Spurs starters to conclude with a strong stat line on Sunday. In 33 minutes, the second-year guard made his mark as one of San Antonio’s best facilitators and rebounders, while constantly putting pressure on the defense to make his way to the charity stripe. Better efficiency on his shot attempts would have boosted Castle well into the twenties in regard to total points. Nonetheless, he finished as one of the team’s top scorers on the evening and, as mentioned previously, contributed in several other areas of the game.

Wembanyama’s first taste of the NBA postseason was a success. The superstar center was particularly productive from the three-point line in this game, where his five triples accounted for one-third of San Antonio’s total from beyond the arc. He also took advantage of his attempts from the free-throw line and converted several shots inside the arc to help land a game-high in points. Yet, his usual counting stats across the board weren’t as great as they often are; Wemby finished below his regular-season averages in rebounds, assists, and blocked shots during his time on the floor. While his impact on both ends was clear, he’ll have a chance to log a greater overall stat line in Game 2.

The Spurs were already locked into their playoff seed and Fox wasn’t having an efficient game, but he still played 33 minutes in the regular season finale. San Antonio still managed to lose the game to a Nuggets team that played Nikola Jokic fewer than 20 minutes. Fox still had a good game, adding in rebounds, assists and a block, which he tends to do when Victor Wembanyama is out. In his first full season with the Spurs, Fox has provided seventh-round per game value.

Harper suffered a left thumb injury during the second half of Sunday’s game. The rookie guard played 18 minutes, finishing with nine points, three rebounds, one assist and one steal. Jordan McLaughlin may play a few more minutes in the fourth quarter, but the bigger concern is Harper’s availability for the playoffs, which begin next weekend.
