Markkanen’s late addition to the injury report doesn’t bode well for his availability against OKC. If he’s ultimately ruled out, the Jazz could give more minutes to Kyle Filipowski and Kyle Anderson.

Markkanen made the most of an overall poor effort from the Jazz on Friday. The 28-year-old power forward only played 26 minutes in the 34-point loss to the Knicks, but still managed to put up 18 points and grab nine rebounds. The Jazz have another difficult matchup with the Thunder to close out Week 7 on Sunday.

The veteran center will return from a one-game absence to face the Knicks on Friday. He’s served as Utah’s starting center since Walker Kessler (shoulder) was lost for the season. Nurkić isn’t a high-end fantasy option but has double-double capabilities on a nightly basis. His return could send Kyle Filipowski back to the bench.

Nurkić missed Thursday’s game against the Nets with a rib injury with Kyle Filipowski replacing him in the starting lineup. Filipowski had 15 points, eight rebounds and five assists in the win over Brooklyn. If Nurkić is out again, Filipowski will likely start again and he just showed he has streaming value under these circumstances.

With Jusuf Nurkić (rib) unavailable, Filipowski made his first start since Halloween and sixth of the season on Thursday. All that was missing from the second-year center’s stat line was a blocked shot, but many fantasy managers will take what Filipowski did bring to the table. Rostered in 18 percent of Yahoo! leagues, his fantasy value in the short term hinges upon Nurkić’s availability. However, there’s likely to come a point later in the season when the Jazz prioritize getting young players like Filipowski even more minutes than they’re already playing.

While his name may not be mentioned very often in early Most Improved Player conversations, there’s no denying that George has made impressive strides after two uneven seasons in Utah. On Thursday, the guard recorded his third double-double of the season, and he only committed one turnover in 31 minutes of play. George is providing third-round value in eight-cat formats, well ahead of his Yahoo! ADP (116). Rostered in 79 percent of Yahoo! leagues, managers in shallow formats must ensure that George isn’t sitting on the waiver wire.

Markkanen has scored at least 30 points in nine games this season, including Thursday’s win over the Nets. Entering the season with a Yahoo! ADP of 56, the Jazz forward has been close to a top-25 player in eight-cat formats thus far. Of course, the possibility of a late-season shutdown is why Markkanen’s ADP took a hit. As a result, those who were willing to roll the dice were rewarded handsomely during the season’s first quarter. Markkanen should face more resistance on Friday when the Jazz visit the Knicks.

Due to a right rib contusion, starting center Jusuf Nurkić will not play on Thursday. His spot in the lineup will be filled by Filipowski, who is worth streaming. He should be most valuable later in the season, especially if the Jazz aren’t in contention for a postseason spot as many expect.

Thursday’s game is the first of two in as many nights for the Jazz, who visit the Knicks on Friday. No Nurkić means that Utah will have to rely more on Kyle Filipowski, possibly as a starter. If he receives the starting nod, Filipowski should be slotted into lineups in deeper leagues.

Love had 11 points in 15 minutes off the bench in Monday’s win over the Rockets. The 37-year-old power forward will miss the first game of a back-to-back for the Jazz on Thursday against the Nets. Expect Love to be available Friday against the Knicks.

Nurkić is dealing with a right rib contusion, and a place in the starting lineup would open up if he can’t play against the Nets. Kyle Filipowski is the most likely replacement, and this would raise his fantasy ceiling, especially with Kevin Love already out.

Nurkić flirted with a double-double for the second straight game against the Rockets. On the second night of a back-to-back, he was productive inside the arc as a scorer and set a new season-high in points before fouling out of the contest. Nurkic has filled in the starting unit nicely in place of the injured Walker Kessler (shoulder). He’s got double-double potential on a nightly basis in this new role.

After finishing with zero points on Sunday against the Rockets, George responded on the second night of a back-to-back by nearly putting 30 points on those same Rockets a day later. He shot well from the floor overall and also got back on track as a facilitator after a quiet previous game in that area. Six turnovers were arguably the only standout weakness of George’s on Monday’s outing. Otherwise, he put together a nice bounce-back game.

On the second night of a back-to-back, Markannen led the Jazz in points in the rematch with the Rockets. His scoring production was particularly notable on a night when the Jazz had seven players score in double figures, including all five starters. He was also effective on the glass, but ultimately came up two boards shy of a double-double. A quarter of the way into the season, Markkanen is averaging more points per game than he has in any other season — he’s been consistent on that end of the floor so far, which should remain the case moving forward.

As expected, the 37-year-old will be back in action after missing the first leg of Utah’s back-to-back set. He should see rotation minutes off the bench, but he isn’t a player worth rostering in fantasy leagues of most sizes.

George missed all six of his shot attempts and only ended up playing 19 minutes. He entered the game as questionable with an illness but played through it, making it easy to attribute his worst performance of the season to the fact that he was under the weather. Utah hosts the Rockets again on Monday, and it wouldn’t be shocking if George sat out if he was still battling this illness. If he does play, hopefully he’ll be feeling good enough to have a better outing.

Bailey was the leading scorer for Utah and was one of six players to score in double figures for them. That may seem like it was a balanced attack, but nearly a third of the team’s points came in the fourth quarter, after the game was out of reach. Bailey was able to have a decent night in what was an ugly loss, and he’ll look to keep it going in the rematch to start off the week on Monday.

Filipowski logged 31 minutes off the bench, which can be attributed to the lopsided score. That was a new season high for minutes, so while he was semi-productive during his time on the floor, he won’t see this many minutes often. It’s good to see him have a productive night as a data point for silly season and dynasty leagues, but it’s unlikely this kickstarts a strong run for him.

Utah’s third-year guard is in the midst of a breakout season, and he’ll look to keep the positive momentum going in Sunday’s tilt with the Rockets. George has averaged 28.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 7.2 assists, 1.5 steals and 3.5 triples across his last six games.

Love played 17 minutes off the bench in Friday’s win over the Kings, with Kyle Anderson picking up a DNP-CD. With the former ruled out for Sunday’s game, look for the latter to play rotation minutes off the bench. However, there’s no need to consider adding Anderson in any fantasy league.

George, who has six straight games with at least 20 points to his credit, is dealing with an illness and could miss his first game of the season. If he does not play against the Rockets, that would leave a significant hole in the Jazz starting lineup. While Isaiah Collier can certainly run the show, he is not the scorer that George is.

Bailey exited Friday’s win over the Kings with a bruised right knee and did not return. The good news is that the rookie isn’t on the initial injury report for Sunday. Bailey being back in the fold lowers Brice Sensabaugh’s ceiling, but he’s still worth a look in deep redraft leagues. Both players should be rostered in dynasty formats.

Ace Bailey (knee) exited with a knee injury in the third quarter, which allowed Sensabaugh to see a boost in minutes. Bailey is being considered “day-to-day”, and there doesn’t appear to be much concern. However, if Bailey ends up missing Sunday’s game against the Rockets, Sensabaugh may be given the opportunity to slide into the starting lineup.

Nurkić came close to recording a triple-double, and while he wasn’t quite able to reach the necessary marks, he was still able to turn in an excellent line in this game. The assists were a new season-high, and he has reached double-digit rebounds in eight of his last nine outings. Nurkić is locked in as the starting center and should be considered a must-roster player for the rest of the year.

George’s breakout season continued as he scored at least 30 points for the fourth time this season and at least 20 points for the sixth straight game. A dramatic leap in points, assists and steals, combined with an improvement in shooting percentage has allowed George to be a top-50 player in nine-category leagues so far this year. He should have no issues filling up the box score moving forward.

Bailey has been ruled out for the remainder of this game, which opens the door for minutes on the win. Brice Sensabaugh should fill the void and provide some value from beyond the arc.

Love did not play in Monday’s loss to the Warriors, as Utah was playing its second game in as many nights. With Taylor Hendricks still on assignment with the team’s G League affiliate, Love should play rotation minutes off the bench. He isn’t worth the risk in most fantasy leagues, but Love will have opportunities between now and the February trade deadline.

George knocked down 10-of-17 shots from the floor, while also adding six rebounds and seven assists, as Utah dropped their fourth straight contest and lost for the fifth time in their last six contests. The Jazz got off to a nice start in this one — the tail-end of a back-to-back after facing the Lakers on Sunday — racing out to an 11-0 advantage before Golden State roared back to take control for good. The Jazz are off until Friday when they square off against the Kings.

Bailey’s metamorphosis into a reliable fantasy contributor is slowly starting to accelerate over the last two weeks as he’s eclipsed 20 points in three of his past seven contests while averaging 24 minutes during that span. The 19-year-old lottery pick is averaging 15 points, three rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.1 steals over that seven-game sample size. Simply put, he’s rapidly becoming a relevant fantasy option, especially in deeper formats.

Monday’s game is the second in as many nights for the Jazz, who lost to the Lakers on Sunday. Love will get the night off after logging 13 minutes the last time out. His absence frees up additional minutes for Kyle Filipowski, especially with Taylor Hendricks being sent to the G League.
