Stroman was excellent in his first start for the Yankees since April 11. He kept the A’s off the board through four innings before Willie MacIver took him deep for a solo homer in the fifth. He’d end his day after five innings with one strikeout while scattering two other hits and two walks. The 34-year-old right-hander will look to build off the strong start in a road matchup against the Mets on Friday.

Barger and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went back-to-back off Walker Buehler in the first. It was Barger’s lone hit, but he did total three hard-hit balls to go along with a strikeout. He’s batting .250/.300/.512 with five homers in June. It’s not quite as good as his May, but it definitely ought to keep him in the lineup.

With tough left-hander Tarik Skubal toeing the slab for the Tigers, both Wallner and Trevor Larnach will get the night off for the Twins. Willi Castro will patrol right field in his place while Jonah Bride will draw a rare start at third base and bat eighth for the Twins.

Smith has gone deep in both games against his former organization, with this one being a two-run blast off Colin Rea in the third inning that also scored Jake Meyers. In his rookie campaign, Smith is now slashing .281/.355/.434. That’s an impressive slash regardless, but especially for a player that was still at Florida State at this point last year.
