Barger and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went back-to-back off Walker Buehler in the first. It was Barger’s lone hit, but he did total three hard-hit balls to go along with a strikeout. He’s batting .250/.300/.512 with five homers in June. It’s not quite as good as his May, but it definitely ought to keep him in the lineup.

Manoah had thrown a live batting practice session last Tuesday, but he will now simulate a game situation by doing up-downs, which means he will rest as if his own team were hitting. This will help see how his arm recovers from the stop-and-start of a typical game. If this goes well, Manoah could begin a rehab assignment and have the chance to return to Toronto in August.

Lauer took a 5-2 lead into the fifth before giving up two doubles and a single with one out. Because of some shoddy baserunning, the Red Sox scored only one run in the sequence, and Yariel Rodríguez stranded two after taking over. Lauer’s win-loss record remained 2-1 as a starter, but the Jays are now 6-1 in his starts, with the only loss being a 3-1 game against the Rays. He’s still probably not a mixed-league guy, at least not unless the Jays starting using an opener for him. He’s due to face the Angels next.

It’s Hoffman’s first save since June 10. He got some help today from home plate umpire Mark Wegner, who decided to call Nick Sogard out on a borderline checked swing that we’re guessing the third-base ump would have waved off. Either way, the Red Sox were right to be upset that it wasn’t the third-base ump making the call.

While those are not eye-opening numbers, Walker played the whole game in right field, which is more important to the Cardinals. He should play another game or two in the outfield to confirm he’s healthy enough for back-to-backs and then could return to St. Louis. How the team will manage starts between Walker, Brendan Donovan, Nolan Gorman, and Alec Burleson will be the big questions.

Fraley will rehab during the team’s upcoming road trip and plans to play through the injury. He is expected to have surgery after the season. Fraley is not a recommended play in shallow fantasy leagues in 2025 as he plays through the injury.

Carpenter got the scoring started in the ballgame with a solo blast off of Chris Paddack in the opening inning. He then added a run-scoring triple in the fifth, but appeared to grab at his hamstring while coming out of the box on that one and was ultimately replaced by Wenceel Perez as a pinch-runner at third base. Look for the Tigers to provide an update on the 27-year-old slugger’s status as soon as more information becomes available. This isn’t the first time Carpenter has left the game with a hamstring injury this year.
