Burleson has gone 5-for-23 over his last seven games and has yet to connect for a home run through 15 contests. There’s no reason for long-term concern here, but the Cardinals are seemingly going to give Luken Baker some additional opportunities at DH against left-handers, which includes on Monday night against Astros southpaw Framber Valdez.

It’s kind of eerie how all of Herrera’s best offensive games come when he’s catching. His previous homer came Monday, which was also the last game he had caught. In between, he was limited to four singles in 20 at-bats as a DH. He’s currently batting .377 with six homers in 12 games as a catcher, compared to .284 with two homers in 27 games as a DH.

As expected, Donovan makes his return to Sunday’s lineup following a four-game absence due to a left big toe sprain. The 28-year-old on-base machine is back at second base and leading off with Masyn Winn getting a rare day off. It’ll be Jose Barrero taking over at shortstop on Sunday afternoon in Milwaukee.

It’s officially happening. Ohtani returns to a major-league mound for the first time since August 23, 2023. The 30-year-old two-way sensation is unlikely to pitch more than one or two innings on Monday night at Dodger Stadium since he threw only 44 pitches last week in his most recent simulated game. It’s worth noting that Los Angeles isn’t giving him the night off from hitting as he’s also at DH and leading off during his return to the mound. Get your popcorn ready.

The fact that Alvarez still remains completely shut down from hitting, according to an official team medical report, as he continues to recover from a small fracture in his right hand seems to signal that he won’t make it back until after next month’s All-Star break. There isn’t an official timetable for his return yet, but he’s still several weeks away based on this latest update.
