Miles Mikolas threw six innings and allowed two runs against the Brewers on Sunday.

Mikolas notched seven strikeouts, topping his previous season high by one, but he was handed the loss after leaving with the Cardinals down 2-1. He’ll take a 4-4 record and a 4.35 ERA into his next start against the Reds.

Brendan Donovan (toe) is back in the lineup for Sunday’s game against the Brewers.

As expected, Donovan makes his return to Sunday’s lineup following a four-game absence due to a left big toe sprain. The 28-year-old on-base machine is back at second base and leading off with Masyn Winn getting a rare day off. It’ll be Jose Barrero taking over at shortstop on Sunday afternoon in Milwaukee.

Nolan Gorman hit a three-run homer and walked twice Saturday in the Cardinals’ 8-5 win over the Brewers.

Gorman’s homer made it a 7-1 game in the fifth and ended Jose Quintana’s afternoon. With Brendan Donovan missing the last four games, Gorman has now gotten to start six straight games. Going into this stretch, he’d started just six of the Cardinals’ previous 21 games. He’s batting .321/.424/.714 in 33 plate appearances this month, so one imagines the Cardinals will stick with him after Donovan returns, which could result in less playing time for Jordan Walker, Alec Burleson and Pedro Pagés (since Iván Herrera would likely do less DHing).

Braxton Fulford went 2-for-2 with a walk, a triple, a run scored and five RBI against the Braves on Sunday.

Gary Sanchez went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a grand slam against the Angels on Sunday.

Sánchez made his return from the injured list and got the start at designated hitter, batting seventh on Saturday. The 32-year-old slugged his first home run of the season for the Orioles, taking Tyler Anderson deep for a solo shot in the sixth inning.
