The 25-year-old right-hander struggled badly with his command in this one, issuing five walks and throwing just 59 of his 102 pitches for strikes. Williams struck out five batters on the evening. Most of the damage done against him came via the long ball — with Lenyn Sosa belting a pair of solo home runs in the first and fifth innings. He got 11 whiffs on the evening, registering a CSW of 25 percent. He finishes an inconsistent first half with a 5-4 record, 3.70 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and a 95/57 K/BB ratio across 97 1/3 innings through his first 19 starts on the season.

Rafaela deserves more attention for what he’s doing right now. He jumped all over a 1-2 slider at his knees from Pete Fairbanks for a walk-off home run to send his Red Sox to victory. It was a shot too: traveling 406 feet, clearing the Green Monster, and winding up on the street behind the park. That came after Rafaela hit a two-out, game-tying single in the second inning just after Red Sox starter Hunter Dobbins had to leave this game due to injury. He’s been one of the hottest hitters in baseball lately with four homers in his last seven games. In fact, he’s taken legitmate strides forward as a player this season with an incredible .985 OPS over his last 30 games. His athleticism is shining through both in center field, where he’s incredible on defense, and at the plate, where something has clicked and allowed him to pull the lion’s share of his fly balls. This could be the blossoming of a special player in Boston.

The 24-year-old superstar transformed a tight 2-1 advantage into a 4-1 lead with a mammoth 440-foot (109.6 mph EV) two-run shot in the fifth inning. That would be his only hit in the ballgame, though he also drew a walk in the ninth inning. The All-Star outfielder is now slashing .244/.301/.392 with 12 long balls, 46 RBI and 15 stolen bases on the season.

The 29-year-old outfielder is expected to need a week’s worth of games before he’s ready to rejoin the Blue Jays, which means that he would miss the first series coming out of the All-Star break. If he looks sharp through Thursday though, don’t be surprised if the Jays opt to bring him back right away. He has been sidelined since the end of May due to a left hamstring strain.
