It’s a scheduled off day for Volpe, who finally snapped a prolonged hitless streak during Saturday’s one-sided blowout, finishing 3-for-4 with his ninth home run of the season. The 24-year-old shortstop should be back in there for Monday’s series opener against the Reds. It’ll be Oswald Peraza taking over at shortstop during Sunday morning’s matinee at Yankee Stadium.

Goldschmidt figures to get plenty of chances this week with the Yankees set to face at least two left-handers, including Cincinnati southpaw Nick Lodolo on Monday night. The 37-year-old sat both games over the weekend against the Orioles after making four straight starts. It’ll be Ben Rice on the bench with Giancarlo Stanton occupying the DH spot.

Stroman is scheduled to throw approximately 70 pitches on Tuesday in a Triple-A start and then could be activated for a weekend start if all goes well. The Yankees have an open spot in the rotation with Ryan Yarbrough (oblique) landing on the IL. Allan Winans will start on Monday, and it seems like he or Stroman will be the choices for a weekend spot in the rotation.
