It’s a tough loss for Singer, but he can’t really complain; he’s still 7-5 while possessing a pretty average ERA for a pretty average team. It was nice to see the seven strikeouts tonight. He had eight in both his first and fifth starts of the year, but in his last nine outings, he never struck out more than four and amassed a 28/23 K/BB. He’s likely to face the Yankees next.

Martinez has been utilized in relief during previous years, so the move doesn’t come as a total shock. The 34-year-old veteran was lit up for seven runs over 2 2/3 innings on Thursday in an abbreviated outing against the Twins. It doesn’t sound like the Reds are making a swap in their rotation, but it’s a situation to monitor.

Petty is an illustrative example of the significant gap between Triple-A and the big leagues at the moment as he’s consistently dominated on the doorstep of the majors with a 2.76 ERA and 26.9 percent strikeout rate this season, while getting absolutely torched in a pair of spot starts for the Reds. The talent is there to succeed, but he’s not a recommended option for fantasy purposes when he makes a bulk relief appearance on Saturday against the division-rival Cardinals.
