This game was never in doubt as the Pirates jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and never looked back. Reynolds put the icing on the cake with a three-run home run in the sixth inning and has been scalding hot of late. One of the biggest disappointments through the first half of the season, he may be quickly righting the ship with 10 hits – including four doubles and this home run – in his last five games. He’s approaching a .700 OPS for the first time all season and could have a big second half ahead of him.

The 29-year-old hurler pitched one inning in his first outing on Friday, allowing one hit (a solo home run) while striking out the other three batters that he faced. Holderman has been sidelined since May 20 due to inflammation in his right thumb. He should only need a handful of outings in the minor leagues before he’s cleared to return to the Pirates’ bullpen.

Despite plenty of hard contact by the Mets, Keller did well to keep them off the board. Of their 12 hard-hit balls, the only one that produced a run was a solo home run from Juan Soto. Keller’s lineup spotted him a four-run lead after the second inning and he pitched like it, leaning on his fastball and seemingly not afraid to leave pitches over the heart of the plate to let the Mets put it in play. It was a fine start, but we’d have hoped to at least get a quality start as he was pitching with such a comfortable lead. He’s lined up to face the Cardinals at home next time out.

The dynamic 26-year-old has been scuffling at the dish as of late and was removed from the team’s game against the Brewers on Tuesday after displaying a lack of energy and effort. Perhaps they just wanted to give him a day off against left-hander David Peterson on Friday night, but there could be more to the story here. Alexander Canario will start in his place in center field and bat eighth for the Bucs on Friday evening.

Hays returned from the injured list on Friday, going 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. This is likely their way of just easing him back into a full-time role. Rece Hinds will start in his place in right field and bat seventh for the Reds against Randy Vasquez and the Padres on Saturday afternoon in Cincinnati.

Winker has been shelved since the beginning of May due to a right oblique strain. He’s eligible to return from the injured list on July 4 and there’s a chance that if everything goes according to plan he could be ready at that time. It’s unclear who he would displace on the Mets’ current roster, but having too many quality options seems like a good problem for them to sort out.

The expectation is that the 26-year-old slugger will remain with the Saints through the weekend and as long as he avoids any setbacks, he would return to the Twins for the start of their series against the Marlins on Tuesday. Lewis has had a tumultuous and disappointing season to date, slashing just .202/.282/.303 with two homers and nine RBI in 110 plate appearances sandwiched between stints on the injured list.
