Winker has been shelved since the beginning of May due to a right oblique strain. He’s eligible to return from the injured list on July 4 and there’s a chance that if everything goes according to plan he could be ready at that time. It’s unclear who he would displace on the Mets’ current roster, but having too many quality options seems like a good problem for them to sort out.

If all goes well there, he’ll be cleared to resume his minor league rehab assignment. The 33-year-old hurler was shut down last week after the discovery of a loose body in his left elbow. The Mets remain hopeful that he’ll be able to join their starting rotation around the All-Star break.

The 36-year-old left-hander made three appearances at Low-A St. Lucie over the past few weeks, allowing just three hits over three scoreless innings with a 6/0 K/BB ratio. The Mets are hoping that he’ll be ready to return coming out of the All-Star break, potentially providing a major boost to their bullpen for the second half of the season.

Soto’s home run represented the Mets’ lone run in a horrible, blowout loss against Pittsburgh in this one. While the Mets fell flat, Soto continued what’s been an incredible month. With two games left in June, he’s up to 11 home runs with a 1.259 OPS and 10 more walks than strikeouts. That’s inconceivably good and he’s returned to being one of the best hitters in baseball.

Hays returned from the injured list on Friday, going 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. This is likely their way of just easing him back into a full-time role. Rece Hinds will start in his place in right field and bat seventh for the Reds against Randy Vasquez and the Padres on Saturday afternoon in Cincinnati.

The expectation is that the 26-year-old slugger will remain with the Saints through the weekend and as long as he avoids any setbacks, he would return to the Twins for the start of their series against the Marlins on Tuesday. Lewis has had a tumultuous and disappointing season to date, slashing just .202/.282/.303 with two homers and nine RBI in 110 plate appearances sandwiched between stints on the injured list.

In a game that featured a lot of scoring early, it really calmed down late. That being said, Ohtani put the bookends on a tough night for Royals’ rookie starter Noah Cameron with a lead-off home run and then a triple to chase him from the game in the fifth inning. Ohtani scalded those two batted balls 110.4 mph and 112.4 mph respectively in what was another excellent game for the slugger. While not stealing bases nearly as often compared to his historic 2024 season, Ohtani is currently on pace for just under 60 home runs with a 1.045 OPS while he builds himself up as a pitcher.
